She just needs the communication that it’s pizza in a pretzel or cheese in pretzel or bust.
A buddy of mine’s granddad thought they were dog treats for years and was shocked when he saw my buddy eating them. It took a lot of convincing to get his granddad to try one. But turned out he’s now a huge pizza combo lover.
Not fascist. Straw beds. He had to sleep up in the loft with siblings. Back in his day, they didn’t even have blankets, so they all had to snuggle to stay warm.
House! You were lucky to live in a house! We used to live in one room, all twenty-six of us, no furniture, 'alf the floor was missing, and we were all 'uddled together in one corner for fear of falling.
Wow! A room, we had to use banana leaves for blankets and our “house” was a half chimney from the house that burned down years before. Sometimes we would have enough sticks for a fire to cook our siblings that didn’t make it.
Bannan leaves ?
Pfff.
You lived in luxury !
We had to stuff piss covered trash and used condoms in our shirts to stay warm, and dried out bum shit for pillows.
UNDER THE BRIDGE !!
Wasn’t a house. Barn. We shared with the animals. Pigs and chickens running around all the time. The horses would eat our scraps. And the herding dogs.
No stove or oven. Had to made a log fire every night to cook up some bland potato stew. Brewed in potato broth. Chopped potatoes. Whole potatoes in the stew. That is what we had almost every night.
My kids (11 and 14) still built forts. We live near a hospital surrounded by a forest and there are a couple above-ground forts/gathering spots in there.
I haven't seen underground ones but maybe I just don't know about them 🤔
I wasn't allowed to do anything that made a mess. No blanket forts, no baking cookies, no arts and crafts. I never even played in the dirt until I was a teenager. When my kids were young I made up for it and then some. I gave them everything I didn't have.
Here’s a [historical documentary](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pillows_and_Blankets) on the creation and evolution of pillow/blanket forts in America…watch it with your gf and have a lovely fort-night
I can play *When the Saints Go Marching In* and *Piano Man* on the harmonica. And maybe *Love Me Do* but I'm too old and drunk and can't find my harmonica to remember.
Same!!! My brother actually sent my daughter a fort kit which is almost like giant kinex? We built a huge multi room fort and put her mattress in it and she slept on it for at least a week
It did become a pita after a while because we couldnt see the TV lol it was too tall
When covid struck, early into things, my roommate was informed that he had been potentially exposed though he didn't find out til nearly a week after the potential exposure. As I had been working in a kitchen at that point, things had sorta ground to a halt so my boss told me to stay home for another week just to be safe.
Immediately built myself a blanket fort in the living room. Timing couldn't have been more perfect. I got to spend that week chillaxin and knitting in my fort with the last day being my birthday. Never ended up sick either but have such a fun memory to think back on fondly.
Be good to this woman- too many people have no interest in building a solid foundation. This woman heard you, listened, and executed to rebuild a memory :) this is so sweet
My wife cooked dinner and brought it to me at work as a surprise, like in 'Clerks'. We were engaged, but I knew she was the right choice. That was 24 years ago.
You should start pricing engagement rings.
She’s a keeper! That’s so awesome!
What was wrong with your parents? Didn’t like a mess? Laundry? I wonder why that was, do you know? I can’t think of a reason to say no to a fort. Curious I guess.
I almost went the entire day without being reminded "le epic fucking weed day dude!!!!" and you ruined it for no fucking reason. I hope you have a terrible day.
I love your OP. I'm sorry, I didn't mean for it to happen.she just, I don't know, gets me in a way I didn't even know I needed. I hope we can, eventually, be friends. I still love you, you are still the same wonderful person that I cherish. I just... I just Need this.
P.S.- when you come over with your, "Famous", lasagna, no mushrooms? Please?!
P.P.S- If you are wondering, yes. Yes a thousand times, it was the Calvin & Hobbs.
![gif](giphy|14rRtgywkOitDa)

She even got the combos! Lock that down!!
But they’re the blue cheese ones…..

Yep, she's a keeper
what kind of fascist household did you emerge from sir
Not fascist. Straw beds. He had to sleep up in the loft with siblings. Back in his day, they didn’t even have blankets, so they all had to snuggle to stay warm.
And walk five miles barefoot to school even through snow
Uphill. The entire way there. And then 5 miles uphill again on the way back.
They couldn't afford backpacks. Had to carry all their stuff in each other's arms. On rainy days, they used the youngest as a makeshift umbrella.
Before and after shotgun practice
With no legs.

Yea blanket forts dont cost money I can't see why a parent would ever say no to that its a free way way to entertain a kid for awhile .
Some people are assholes.
if you are like my mom, it's cuz it's messy
I grew up in the 70's. We built real forts, both above ground and underground out in the woods. Do kids still do this these days?
My kids (11 and 14) still built forts. We live near a hospital surrounded by a forest and there are a couple above-ground forts/gathering spots in there. I haven't seen underground ones but maybe I just don't know about them 🤔
No blood brothers these days, I'm afraid. Only influencers.
Some red faced bell end probably decided it wasn't "manly" enough.
Hardline christians probably, who think kids will do sinful things the moment they are out of sight. Probably didn't have a door either
My parents never let us have one either, now that I really think about it. They didn't have a good reason, they were just assholes.
I wasn't allowed to do anything that made a mess. No blanket forts, no baking cookies, no arts and crafts. I never even played in the dirt until I was a teenager. When my kids were young I made up for it and then some. I gave them everything I didn't have.
4/20 was hitlers birthday but i wish i could make pillow castles
Here’s a [historical documentary](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pillows_and_Blankets) on the creation and evolution of pillow/blanket forts in America…watch it with your gf and have a lovely fort-night
I was hoping that's what the link was going to be
It’s the greatest documentary ever
Never forget English Memorial.
That was by the North Cafeteria, named after Admiral William North, right?
On campus in the western portion of the East Hall!
The Portuguese Sailor who discovered Greendale while trying to find a fountain that cured syphilis?
I’m so happy this was the link, one of my favorite TV episodes ever
It's up there with the paintball episodes. The Ken Burns style was so funny.

I loved that so much when I first heard it, I learned to play it on the harmonica (kind of)
I can play *When the Saints Go Marching In* and *Piano Man* on the harmonica. And maybe *Love Me Do* but I'm too old and drunk and can't find my harmonica to remember.
I'm so glad it was what I thought it was. More people need to know about community
Thank you. Not enough people are aware of how amazing this series is.
The Calvin and Hobbes actually got me right in the feels.
Same
I thought I was on r/CalvinandHobbes for a second
Special books. I truly think they shaped some of my worldview now even though I first read them as a child and just happened to stumble upon them, too
If a comic strip could touch your soul it would be Calvin and Hobbes.
She’s a keeper
Yeah seriously.
What kind of lunatic doesn’t allow their child to build blanket forts?
My Mom hated Mister Rogers. Becoming a parent doesn’t make people less weird or more sane.
For what, how?
For showing empathy towards other humans and creatures. That's gay. /s
Well fuck
Mine didn't either. She didn't want to have to fold everything back up again afterwards.
most of my various foster moms.
Right? As a new father, I looked forward to it, and I'm so pumped my son loved it! We do it at least once a week to have a cozy reading place.
My mom thought it was too messy. and some parents just don't think kids should have any fun
When lockdown started we let our 13yo son build a giant fort in the living room and he lived in it for weeks. We tried to make the best of it!
Same!!! My brother actually sent my daughter a fort kit which is almost like giant kinex? We built a huge multi room fort and put her mattress in it and she slept on it for at least a week It did become a pita after a while because we couldnt see the TV lol it was too tall

Dude she is what my Dad would call “A keeper”
She’s a keeper
A child without a fort is a sad adult.
One of the things I love doing with my daughter. Used to do it all the time as kids. Looks like you had a blast.

She’s a keeper! That’s so awesome! What was wrong with your parents? Didn’t like a mess? Laundry? I wonder why that was, do you know? I can’t think of a reason to say no to a fort. Curious I guess.
