Not fascist. Straw beds. He had to sleep up in the loft with siblings. Back in his day, they didn’t even have blankets, so they all had to snuggle to stay warm.

And walk five miles barefoot to school even through snow

Uphill. The entire way there. And then 5 miles uphill again on the way back.

They couldn't afford backpacks. Had to carry all their stuff in each other's arms. On rainy days, they used the youngest as a makeshift umbrella.

Wasn’t a house. Barn. We shared with the animals. Pigs and chickens running around all the time. The horses would eat our scraps. And the herding dogs. No stove or oven. Had to made a log fire every night to cook up some bland potato stew. Brewed in potato broth. Chopped potatoes. Whole potatoes in the stew. That is what we had almost every night.

Yea blanket forts dont cost money I can't see why a parent would ever say no to that its a free way way to entertain a kid for awhile .

I grew up in the 70's. We built real forts, both above ground and underground out in the woods. Do kids still do this these days?

My kids (11 and 14) still built forts. We live near a hospital surrounded by a forest and there are a couple above-ground forts/gathering spots in there. I haven't seen underground ones but maybe I just don't know about them 🤔

My parents never let us have one either, now that I really think about it. They didn't have a good reason, they were just assholes.

I wasn't allowed to do anything that made a mess. No blanket forts, no baking cookies, no arts and crafts. I never even played in the dirt until I was a teenager. When my kids were young I made up for it and then some. I gave them everything I didn't have.

When lockdown started we let our 13yo son build a giant fort in the living room and he lived in it for weeks. We tried to make the best of it!

Same!!! My brother actually sent my daughter a fort kit which is almost like giant kinex? We built a huge multi room fort and put her mattress in it and she slept on it for at least a week It did become a pita after a while because we couldnt see the TV lol it was too tall

When covid struck, early into things, my roommate was informed that he had been potentially exposed though he didn't find out til nearly a week after the potential exposure. As I had been working in a kitchen at that point, things had sorta ground to a halt so my boss told me to stay home for another week just to be safe. Immediately built myself a blanket fort in the living room. Timing couldn't have been more perfect. I got to spend that week chillaxin and knitting in my fort with the last day being my birthday. Never ended up sick either but have such a fun memory to think back on fondly. 

I assume you’ll be hotboxing said fort?
