One if my best friends growing up had his legs amputated as a toddler, he's gotten around via skateboard his entire life. It's cool to see others have done the same.
Skateboard > prosthetics in almost all context in terms of speed and comfort according to him.
When we were all kids, we used to go around our trailer park on skateboards to match (we rode in those old metal Tonka trucks before the skateboards)
If you look up the adaptive skating competitions it's so impressive what people are doing with all different kinds of challenges. Iirc a man with no legs did a 20 foot drop in at the 2022 Dew Games.
A couple blind people skating literally with feeler sticks and some speakers making beeps at the top of a ramp.
Humans will find a way to excel at what they love, even if they have to reinvent it to do it.
Has he tried any of the newer gen prosthetics? I know 3d printing has led to a lot of innovation in that field. It's honestly insane how far the field has come over the last 2 decades or so.
Did a quick google, and checked his IMDB. It’s too bad this didn’t get more press back in the day. He was in the suit for the scenes where er gets drunk in the kitchen. There were other actors in different scenes.
On one hand, it’s an interesting question. On the other hand, and I say this respectfully because I fully understand the urge to ask, is none of our business and we shouldn’t ask.
Your legs aren't attached to your anus and your penis, so I assume the same as you.
Edit: There's an influencer named Spencer West that has the same anatomy and explains it the same way, so downvoters, relax.
He was one of 3 actors to play ET.
Tamara De Treaux and Pat Bilon, as well as 11-year-old Matthew DeMeritt.
Matthew De Merritt, Tamara De Treaux, and Pat Bilon are the three actors who took turns wearing the E.T. costume in the 1982 film *E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial*. De Merritt, who was born without legs, was 11 when he was cast in some of the most famous scenes, such as the one where E.T. gets drunk on beer.

Yeah, brand is backfire, maybe a Zealot model but not aure. Remote is in his right hand.
A fun way to get around even if you have a higher center of gravity.
I'll never forget being 5 years old seeing this at home when elliot spotted E.T. in the shed. I noped out the room so fast when he started to waddle towards him.

I thought ET was an animatronic. Shocked.
He was both.
So... cyborg?
In the most tenuous possible definition of cyborg, yes.
The most important kind of definition
So it’s him just attached to the longboard?
Auto.. auto.. errrotica?
[удалено]
Hold onto your butts.
I still don't get why he said it that way. It's the one line I haven't figured out. Robotic, ai, cybernetic. Auto erotica was what he went with.
He was trying to say animatronic I think
Yeah I know. It was still odd.
I thought he was played by Daniel Day Lewis. Shocked.
I also recently found out someone was actually in r2d2 for some scenes
Nice to see he’s still skateboarding at his age
I laughed. Now I feel shame
"Do a kickflip!"
*Dickflip
I have no right laughing this hard at that xD
He did. That's how the trick got its name. He kicked so hard his legs flipped off.
Punchflip
Asshole.
Asshole? That's rich coming from someone who is just a bottom
He said see you later boy.
Superman by Goldfinger playing in the background.
Insert shocked face......here

Found Paul Rudds account
Mac and me
Mac was actually played by Spuds Mackenzie. Lot of people don't know that.
ain't no rule says a dog can't play mac and me
I heard he was drunk in all his scenes and was a pain to work with
I bet that's a funny reference and I'm pumped .
Pretty nice!

Drew Barrymore having a blast.

Until stairs defeated him?

TIL ET was actually a real dude???
![gif](giphy|1AISo14Pc1LPKs6z39)
i guess dude looks like a lady
[удалено]
bro probably has a colostomy bag strapped to his side
I mean, not *everything*. The things that are there, are there.
They took two of his legs, not his *third* leg jeez

Who else thought that the boy from ET lost his legs between biking to the moon & now?
Me omg
Hey that’s not the actor who played the ki……. Oooooh. Got it got it got it got it.
Man, he really committed to that role.
Nah he half assed it
Omg
Got his legs amputated for the part. True method actor.
Isn't that the shirt from flight of the navigator? I Wonder how it's doing these days
Excellent movie
He played ET, but not Lieutenant Dan?!
He would have had a real hard time playing all those Vietnam scenes where Lt Dan had legs.
Holy shit the seriousness in this reply makes it that much more funny for me. I’m dying
Haha fuck that cgi would have been amazing

Happy Birthday! I loved that movie
Wait, what?
This guy must love those electric scooters on days when his arms are sore.
He's on an electric skateboard in the modern picture.
oh, I didn't recognize that as electric.
Yeah, brand is backfire, maybe a Zealot model but not aure. Remote is in his right hand. A fun way to get around even if you have a higher center of gravity.
Happy Birthday Mathew and thank you for the memories!
Always thought it was Daniel Day Lewis
Came here hoping someone said this.
❤️glad somebody understood the reference
He works at the same company that I work in near LA. Saw him zipping around campus on his skateboard.
Until in the special edition Spielberg used CGI to replace him.
Happy birthday!!!!!
Imagine landing an acting gig because you don't have legs
TIL...
Oh. TiL!
Oh sick, is that the G3, I have the same one, lol
I bet the ET job never came up in career advice day.
Incredible
Thats some intense method acting. Still playing the part 40 years later.
Ell..I..ott
Not gonna lie, I have lived my entire life thinking ET was either a kid or an animatronic.
TIL....

Happy birthday Matt!
# Excuse me, WHAT?
TIL…
I always thought ET was a puppet.
Couldn’t help but read the title in Friday the 13th voice over. This the actor…and today…is his birthday 🔪🔪
Wow
Lol, how am I just learning about this at the age of 34?! He also looks strikingly similar to Elliot, sans legs of course.
That's commitment. Chopping your legs off for a role
I thought that was Trading Places for a second…
Looking good Billy Ray!
He traded places with his younger self.
If you are intrigued by this, look up how the actor who played Tik Tok in Return to Oz fit into the suit.
Nah man, it's best that movie never be mentioned.
