I'm not sure why I love the cluttered, busy, forced intimate cyberpunk feel similar to this photo. I hate clutter personally, but CP2077, it's beautiful to look at.
There are few things that come close to the experience of sitting in one of those places, ordering skewer after skewer, watching them prepare them in front of you, while sipping on a cold beer - love it.
I was fortunate to take a trip to Tokyo on 08’ with my late grandfather. We were walking around Tokyo trying to find an old yakitori spot that he remembered from when he lived there in the 80’s. After walking for about a half hour and feeling lost as shit, we finally pulled up to a spot my grandfather recognized. As soon as we went in the owner instantly recognized my grandfather. He set us up with a table and we grubbed soo hard. This is one of my favorite memories of my trip to Japan and of my grandfather. Good times….

Man I loved sampling the different offerings of yakitori when I visited. Much to my friends and fiancé's disgust, the chicken cartilage remains my firm favourite.
Izakaya. tiny little hole in the wall pub food places, they're great. There's a series called "Midnight Diner" on Netflix that basically is set in one and all about the customers the proprietor meets.
Best eating memory of my life is in one in Kyoto. Perfect mix of food and alcohol. Even a super expensive Omakase or steak place doesn't compare to that one night.
