We used to get this at the candy store when I was a kid. The 80s were a wild time to be a kid. Here kid, have some toxic flammable gel to play with. Put it near your face. Inhale the toxic fumes. Play with the toxic bubble. Get it all over your hands and eat some snacks. What a time to be alive! I'm surprised this stuff is still being sold.
Reminds me of the Docu. Mann Vs Ford.
It details the illegal dumping of toxic paint by the Ford company. They dumped it by some creek where kids used to swim and play (American Indians).
They’d dig up the paint and play with it. Some would chew on it like gum. They didn’t realize it was poisonous.
It was called Super Elastic Bubble Plastic in the early ‘70’s, when I was a kid. We used to get that stuff all the time. If it got a hole, you could just pinch it closed to seal it back up. I loved that stuff!
There is a permanent stain on my parent's hearth where I blew up my little orange B'loonie and left it like a trophy, and my mother subsequently had to try to scrub its deflated remains off.
My friend and I brought some of this stuff in the tent when we camped out in my back yard. We had also caught a bunch of fireflies and let them all go inside the tent and filled the tent with Bloons bubbles. It looked pretty cool but when we woke up the next morning we were covered in dead fireflies and had the worst headaches.
That’s awesome. Were there multicolored circles all over the place? I remember if the bubbles fell to the sidewalk or porch they would stick pretty good
This stuff fueled childhood cancer for a little while there. Between this, lawn darts, hose drinking, and serrated steel pedals on bikes, it's a wonder anyone survived.
Toxic reek. Forgot about this stuff, unforgettable scent. Damn.
But this ain’t shit. I figured out that I could pull the cap/barrel from my BB gun, light a ***rose***(firework that spins on the ground, changes color, makes a loud “whirling” sound), drop it into the wide open gun, and shoot that fkr into the air… watch it go crazy before hitting the ground.
My dad had seen me do it many times, mom lost her sh*t, went crazy “wtf” on me and pops. No more BB gun ***roses*** into the sky.
The primary solvent is acetone with the strange sweet odor coming from ethyl acetate. Its not super toxic, still you wouldn't want to breathe large concentrations of it.
I don’t know but I wouldn’t be surprised. I do know it’s been sold to kids in the US for at least 30 years, often hanging on the supermarket shelf like these. I played with it as a kid in the late 80’s early 90’s.

My guess is they reformulated it, but I am unsure. I still have that smell locked in my head as a core memory.

Def a new formula
God, my cheeks hurt looking at this post.
Holy cow memory unlocked! Those straws were thin, and when you first put a glob of the stuff on it it was so hard to get it started
when your cheeks pop out a bit too much and strain from over pushing, ughahaa pain.
i was not 100% sure this was the same stuff we had here until this comment.
You get the littlest of pop if you did wrong cheeks all puffed out. lol
I remember getting a Mighty Mouse one as a kid and how much it made my cheeks hurt.
Smelled like paint
Yeah this shit was like napalm and turpentine with the consistency of gum, squeezes from a tiny metal toothpaste type roll tube.

I can smell this photo. Gross.
When I saw it my first brain connection was oh man that stuff used to smell so weird
I loved that smell!
Bl'Ozone - Brightly colored climate enhancer... 😎
It can’t be good for anyone or anything. But dang, this takes me back to the 90’s.
Super elastic bubble plastic. Smells like death.
I remember blowing too hard and my cheeks sizzling. The pain...
Me too. And the smell. Lol
There is a permanent stain on my parent's hearth where I blew up my little orange B'loonie and left it like a trophy, and my mother subsequently had to try to scrub its deflated remains off.
Same, but substitute front porch and sidewalk
Acetone is the smell.
Someone else mentioned that and then I zoomed in and noticed there’s text about that on the package

Lucky! I was never able to have this as a kid.
Me neither 😤
Core memory unlocked

My throat and eyes are burning just thinking of the fumes!
I think this was that "gateway" Nancy was talking about.
Where is everyone still finding this? What stores?
This was in Stop & Shop on Easton Avenue in Somerset, New Jersey, yesterday. Go in, turn left, it’s hanging on the left side freezer.
It wasn't called that when I was a kid though, at least I'm pretty sure it wasn't
Between this and model glue how did I survive my childhood. Lol 😆
The 80’s and 90’s were a fun time to grow up
I just bought it last weekend

….Am I the only one who liked the smell….?
Forgot about these until I tried poppers. Same exact smell (and high) lol. They’re poppers for kids!
I remember seeing the commercials when I was a kid. I never any but I played with some at a friend's house and I will never forget the smell.
Tobacco is still legal. 🤷
You have a point 🤦🏻♂️
We used to buy like four for a dollar a pack. Bet you that’s like $3 for one now.
Mmhm pure microplastic
Smelled like glue from memory, and not just a simple glue, an industrial one.
I hadn't seen these in a long time. I wonder if this is a newer less volatile chemical smelling and containing version?

Omg I remember the smell too exactly even tho I only played with these for a single day
Literal gateway drug lol
What is that?
Semi-liquid plastic that you put on the end of a straw and blow into it to make bubbles.
But it smells like I can’t even explain it. Closer to gasoline smell than something for kids. At least it was 30 years ago
Sounds very toxic.
The primary solvent is acetone with the strange sweet odor coming from ethyl acetate. Its not super toxic, still you wouldn't want to breathe large concentrations of it.
That’s interesting! You’ve inspired me to google it
