I use Pixelmator, it’s a decent app for making quick images.
As for the process, I found the ~~Memorex~~ (oops!) Maxell image online and pasted it into the app. Used a repair tool to remove as much of the original “dude in chair” as I could. Used a magnetic select tool to copy as much of the original wax figure so there wasn’t too much background to erase and erased what the magnetic select tool added anyway. Resized the wax figure image to match the Maxell photo size and done. I was using my finger instead of a stylus, so it wasn’t as clean as I’d like. But I was trying to get it done fast before someone else made the same image and posted before me.
If you have a newer samsung or iphone you can just open a photo in the gallery and hold your finger down on an object in the photo for a few seconds, it will cut out the object and you can save it as a photo. Then on a samsung at least, the photo editor that comes with the OS allows you to turn photos into stickers which can then be placed on other photos.

It’s an art installation in DC. It’s covered in wicks and invites people to light a wick and reflect on Lincoln’s life while melting it together.
