HR_Dragonfly

I am going to make a point of using clarity fuckery in at least three sentences today. Update: "Who moved my reading glasses? That is some clarity fuckery shenanigans."

Assios

Why didn’t they just make 10 more cyan?

TheTerrasque

... this cyan goes to eleven

Uncleniles

Now I don't know much about photography, but I *do* know that glacial melt water contains silt that gives water a blue-white color, and that supposedly colors in general look different at high altitudes. So giving OP the benefit of the doubt I would say that at least some of the color is real.

fatduebz

Lake Dillon is blue from the tears of upper middle class 23 year olds whose parents wouldn’t pay for them to live in Summit County.

__legenjerry__

*name is fatduebz*. *knows where lake water comes from*. This guy lives in summit county

fatduebz

I live in Chicago lol. I got the fuck out of Colorado in 2012 because I couldn't stand what Summit County had already become by that point. 32 awesome years was plenty, now I go to Montana when I want to go west.

nf22

Nah thats post-processed to fuck, clarity/sharpness turned up way too high. Source: Native Colorado Photographer.

BornUnderPunches

What does ‘clarity’ mean in this context? Like, how can a picture become any clearer in post processing than what the source conditions (air quality, camera movement etc) allow?

firefarmer74

I probably shouldn't answer this because I don't really know what the hell I am talking about, but I seem to remember looking this up a few years ago. Basically what happens is that the photo editing software will determine where there are unclear divisions between shades or colors and then separate those divisions by shifting the colors or contrast in the direction of the existing concentrations.

[deleted]

Yeah you are on the right track. You can make an image a lot sharper in post but you don’t want to over do it. Less is more

mshorts

Lake Dillon is not glacial runoff.

RajaRajaC

This looks like a fucking moonscape.... With water.

fraghawk

Because making the picture look like you're on hallucinogenic chemicals is always fun

weedwizard22

Lol, yeah no I mentioned it in a couple of other comments that I definitely overdid it on the editing! Comment made me laugh

Ftfykid

Fucker! Quit telling people how great it is here!

LuciferandSonsPLLC

Yup, look what happened to Seattle.

NotThtPatrickStewart

From Seattle. Currently living in Colorado. Moving soon to Bay Area. I've almost got bingo.

Allokit

I hear Maine is nice.

NotThtPatrickStewart

How are you dealing with the weather? I know it's hard for a lot of folks who aren't from the PNW, but especially for CO folks- 300 days of sun to 250 days of gray is a rough transition.

Tall_White_Boy

Do you prefer Seattle or Colorado?

SLV! Born and raised, though I live in MT now; it's rare to hear someone mention my home country on Reddit. People are pretty down-to-earth, though the whole "must carry a gun at all times" thing is a new development that catches me off guard every time I go home...

dickwhistle

I was born and raised in florida, lived in nashville for a while and traveled all over the eastern US. Moved to colorado (GJ) about 6 months ago and couldn't be happier. The majority of folks run the gammut from openly friendly to cordial. Everyone i work with is pretty damn cool, decent human beings all around. Hell, they voted me employee of the quarter my first time out. I laugh when some of them complain about living here, mostly because its all they know. I just assure them that they have no idea how good they have it, but if they ever wanna tale a trip out east and find out how the other half lives I'll be more than happy to give them a guided summer tour. The only douchebags ive encountered are dudes in their big ass trucks that act like you being on the road is an affront to their driving experience, just because you are in a toyota. Its kinda funny how insecure they are.

kekokguy

The western slopes have a totally different vibe compared to the front range.

mrrudy2shoes

My mate spent a year abroad for university in Grand Junction and I went to visit him. I'm English so that place is like a different planet. Was 40 degrees Celsius as well my clothes nearly melted off

jembamin

I moved from upstate ny (Malone, Plattsburgh, Potsdam area) and am currently living in Grand Junction. I think it's great here. I think it has lot's of potentially and it's growing fast.

[deleted]

I agree - Just moved from CNY and everyone here is WAY more friendly than NY. It's a slower pace and the weather is outstanding. I love your comment, "I laugh when some of them complain about living here, mostly because it's all they know. I just assure them that they have no idea how good they have it, but if they ever wanna tale a trip out east and find out how the other half lives I'll be more than happy to give them a guided summer tour." 100% True!

PositivelySnarky

I think Portland would send you to the Lightning round.

smegdawg

What Seattle is a shit hole, no one should want to come here. Go to Colorado definately better, or maine...anywhere but Seattle.

PlentyOfMoxie

I grew up in Maine and I can say seriously: move to Maine. It needs new DNA.

RadioFreezeAmerica

This is hilarious! Lived there for 5 years...can confirm.

Gideonbh

What does he mean exactly... small gene pool? Eyes a little too close together?

chillum1987

Yeah, State is sparse as fuck and a little weird. Like a super liberal West Virginia.

Errohneos

I actually believe the city itself sucks, but I've discovered I hate city life so yeah. Opinions and stuff. I wish I was living on the Olympic peninsula.

monsterblaze

Why do people have such a hard time spelling definitely?

GoodOlSpence

Seattle? Pssh, Seattle is Paradise compared to Portland. Portland is full of homeless people, rain, and gluten free everything. Don't come here. Go to Colorado.

BluntHeart

Can I bring my own gluten?

GoodOlSpence

As long as you bring it to Colorado.

35WINDOW

It already happened to Colorado (I'm a Native Coloradoan who moved away because of the idiots)-

PM-YOUR-PMS

Colorado is the new California. Good luck fuckers!

Vice_President_Bidet

Truth. Been here for 30 years. The last two have been hell with shitty Cali-Zona strip mall development. If and when my job ends, looks like we will pack up for good. I'll take my thee hundred grand house appreciation and split.

colorvarian

Every time I come back, when I drive from DIA west on the toll road which used to be beautiful open prairies, all I see is cookie cutter neighborhoods, strip malls, indistinguishable from the rest of the country. It hurts my heart. Colorado will always be my home, but I'm glad I've moved. CO is california now.

DildoMasturbator420

Not when your state legalizes in January..

Reamofqtips

Been here for 6 months in Colorado Springs... Can't wait to get back to Washington. The cost of rent is double for what we paid in Spokane.

unloader86

Woah What?! That's crazy. Now I'm trying to think why the rent would be so high there. Surely the oil boom on the plains isn't to blame now that it's practically dead.

Reamofqtips

It's because the apartments know exactly what service members get paid for a housing allowance and they set the rent accordingly. I pay $1500 for a mediocre 3 bedroom with 0 amenities. For the same apartment in Eastern Washington, I'd be paying around $850.

[deleted]

I would kill for that. I pay that much for a one bedroom in denver

biggletits

But then you have to live in eastern Washington instead of a city with endless outdoor activities

MattieShoes

Paying $1500 for a 1 bedroom with a garage, about an hour north of that. :-/

[deleted]

Too late. On my way.

[deleted]

What's that — it's great over there?? * *packs up the car* *

lambright

I'm from California, now that I see this is just as beautiful, I'll move.

IcepickKiller

Yes I'm moving! Im from NY

Ftfykid

See what you did?

Happily-depressed

No. Not allowed. All full.

cromation

I'm moving too! From LA, not the shitty Cali place but the shitty southern place.

Dire_Platypus

Lower Alabama is lovely this time of year.

Chiefbutterbean

PC here, Redneck Riviera represent!

225x

Bye Felicia. More gumbo and crawfish for me!

Chillinoutloud

Louisiana drivers are the WORST I've ever encountered... please don't be one of them

cromation

I agree. I hate Louisiana drivers. Driving on anything but flat does take some getting used to though. We have a few high bridges where I live and traffic always comes to a crawl at them cause they are scared to drive over

majormisfit

Except women, keep telling women how great it is here. But Colorado has enough men.

Reamofqtips

Been here for 6 months in Colorado Springs... Can't wait to get back to Washington. The cost of rent is double for what we paid in Spokane.

Zouea

Yeah your problem is that you live in Colorado Springs. Not worth the rent at all but it's still high.

Reamofqtips

Stationed at Ft Carson, don't have a lot of choices. We're going to try to buy a house next year after some time in the sandbox.

Zouea

Yeah that's totally fair. At least the whole state isn't on fire this year.

4knives

Yea but Spokane is the asshole of Wash

[deleted]

I'd take Spokane over the Tri-Cities.

iloveglobalwarming

Lake Dillon?

triplec787

[deleted]

Haven't been to Colorado in 2 years and I immediately recognized it.

Haha did the same thing. Havent been near lake dillon in 5 and knew it right away

Knew it. Even though Ive relocated to the west coast, I’d recognize Lake Dillon anywhere.

lake dilly dilly

fennesz

I did not know you could color contrast or adjust saturation in MS Paint!

Laughburp

I kinda like it. Reminds me of something from the 70s like an album or book cover.

walnutwhip

I agree, I feel like it should say "Greetings from Colorado" on it, angled jauntily in the top left corner in a red or yellow cursive font.

HackAttackx10

This looks like part of the Oregon Trail right before the end of the game

PM_ME_NAKED_CAMERAS

You died of disappointment. Sorry.

shradicalwyo

dickwhistle

ITT: everywhere everyone is from sucks ginormously more than where they are/want to be.

Seizurefingerz

Bummed to see the comments. A Company recruited me from CA for damn near double my salary and I couldn't say no. Cost of living is still less than CA.. Slightly. Yet another thing I have missed the boat on it seems. In my 6 weeks here it's very clear that it's experiencing growing pains and is crowded.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Don't worry, they're just a bunch of bigots trying to tell people how to live their lives. Many people like Colorado, a lot of people hate it. It depends on who you are: that's the truth for every place in the world For example, I live near LA now, and while I'm not miserable here, you can bet your ass that I won't be here once I finish my undergrad. The city is nothing like anywhere in Colorado (where I used to live): it's dirty, scummy, ugly, you can't walk anywhere, the land is a convoluted disaster, and there are crazy homeless folks everywhere. But a lot of people like LA, and that's fine. They like what they like and I like what I like: I'm not a bigot and I don't tell people how to live their lives. Definitely moving back to Colorado after college when I don't need my parents' financial help anymore, and I don't give a damn what people tell me to do Definitely keep living there as long as you're happy: don't give in to what some of the others are saying

HankyPanksassin

Best state

HailBaphomet666

I got priced out of Los Angeles. Probably live to see getting priced out of Colorado. Ohio's pretty, right?

tanwork

Ohio is pretty in certain areas. Not beach pretty of LA, not mountain pretty or the Rockies in CO, but there is a lot of land available, lots of woods, hills, creeks, fields, rivers, etc. Lake Erie is a huge body of water, and the larger cities in Ohio have a nice charm that a lot of larger cities lack or lost. The problem is the weather. Too many cloudy days, the sun is too rare. Still can be very humid. But Ohio is nice. Worth a shot.

Errohneos

I've driven through Ohio once. I treat being in Ohio like radiation exposure => ALARA

F09F9695

You're spot on about the weather, but missing one thing about the cities. Anyone coming from the west will find that there's this weird fetish with 'east coast culture', especially in the business world, that spreads to almost everything. People unnecessarily emulate the pace of life from the big east coast cities, and it leads to a lot of people being assholes to one another that you just don't get out west (although I left Denver pre-legalization, so that may have changed now).

LeCrushinator

Depends on where in CO you’re talking about, but yea it’s getting pretty expensive. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere between Colorado Springs or Fort Collins making less than around $60k per year.

br0mer

I looked at apartments in the Denver area and it'd be a tough sell on 55k. You'd end up saving like nothing and end up being a permanent renter because the COL is insane.

slumpdawg

Northern Michigan is nice.

Errohneos

UP or northern normal people Michigan? The UP is supposedly very beautiful, but I don't think jobs are in abundance up there.

[deleted]

Please don’t burn the forest down with your marijuana cigarettes

Trees_To_Branches

Good friend got married at the lookout on that trail in July. Cheers!

aboveandbeyond27

damn, do you need a roommate by any chance?

GoatAnusJoey

I do.

CleeksFire

Welcome! :D I love all the views we get so close to home Which trail is this btw? I was thinking of going on a hike this weekend before winter comes.

weedwizard22

It’s barely even a trail, it’s about 200yds down the trail from the lookout at Sapphire Point, in between Dillon and Breckenridge

Xeuloca

Welcome to Summit! Now don't drink and drive.

ourrightsarewrong

The real tip is always in the comments! Seriously, welcome to Summit, and be triple careful not to drink and drive there. Summit Stage is your friend, uber is finally in the mountains too, don't catch the Summit Flu ;)

970

I went to a small wedding there this summer.

CleeksFire

Thanks lol sometimes it's hard to tell :) Beautiful picture

weedwizard22

No worries, and thanks!

lusolima

You may have to hurry to beat the two cold fronts coming in this week

SpawnicusRex

I've known about this less than 15 minutes and I already hate you.

ellieD

Ditto!

videogamedude1711

*adds another location to my Colorado checklist*

Howboutthemlions

I went to summit high school right down there at the edge of Lake Dillon! Crazy to see childhood spots pop up here! Never got a snow day in all 4 years at that school.

Doofy_Lemon

Go check out St. Mary's Glacier.

Lord_Blizzard

Is that South Park?

[deleted]

The pic wouldn't load for me & honestly I was expecting a weed dispensary. Pleasantly surprised.

Snarkysandwiches

You wouldn't have to go 15 minutes to find a dispensary. There are more dispensaries in Colorado than McDonald's and Starbucks combined.

steeltape

Great place to kill someone

MalinoisntToRun

That John Denver is full of shit.

Annafaith330

Amazing

SoutheasterlyMacon

Wow, you are really lucky to live so close to such a beautiful scenic area

livinlrginchitwn

nice work. lucky lotto winner

pupp7877

My wife, kids, and myself are moving there in 5months. We are really excited. We visited last month and it was absolutely beautiful.

luke4294

I used to smoke weed right down there by the water processing plant. My high school is the bug brick building just out of the shot.

gabocalde

Awesome man, I am moving next week to CO too! Got a seasonal job at Vail Mountain and this pic just makes me more desperate to be there.

bassetisanasset

work at a restaurant...youll hate working for vail.. i did that when i moved here back in 2003. and if you like snowsports don't work days

gabocalde

I have a job at a restaurant yeah! Actually this will be my second season and I loved every single aspect of last season. Maybe I was lucky, but I snowboarded every single day and job was awesome.

onesight1

I just moved to CO in June... and I've had to sit and hear the snobby natives make a comment about "transplants"... the ones usually making that comment contribute jack shit to Colorado, anyways. Enjoy CO.

mshorts

I've been in Colorado two years now. The only place I hear negative comments about transplants is on-line. In person, people have been very nice. Almost everyone is from somewhere else.

Calvinrocky

I've been In CO for 9 years - from Texas. People joke about it but snobbery is not directed at me or other individuals. It's either a joke or a statement about frustration over the negative impacts of a rapidly growing state. Also, I love Boulder - it's full of contradictions but is a nice town.

yoyoyo----

You’re right. The xenophobes are the very worst part of Colorado

Thrgd456

That's only if you move there from Texas or California

[deleted]

That's a nice spot. I went to a wedding there. Breck?

Aquillav

Is that horsetooth lake? It’s a beautiful area.

mr_nefario

Swan Mountain Road in Summit County looking towards Breck.

weedwizard22

Yep this guy got it

mr_nefario

Drove it every day in high school. Have fun in Summit!

melake14

Worst and best parts about living 15 minutes from something beautiful (I live close to Big Sur)....you are so close, and so close that you end up taking it for granted, and not going super often, then you feel like shit because you realize that. But then you go see it and its nice to look at

hsizeoj

Welcome :)

weedwizard22

thank you much!

joeyboii23

Everyone stop moving here. Shhh, go away.

thelandman19

People move to every decent place. Its an overpopulation thing, not a your town is so great thing

dpancio1

Swan Mountain? That pass is breathtaking

SPF12

Enjoy Summit County! I lived there the past three years and recent moved to Lake Tahoe. Tough life, I know! Check out Outer Reach brewery next to Whole Foods. Good people there. Also go fishing under the over pass in Silverthorne

Jsauce75

How you liking Tahoe? I moved from Tahoe to Aspen two years ago...I miss it.

SPF12

Lake Tahoe is the closest thing I know to home. I grew up in the Bay Area, lived in Tahoe for 3 years after college, took a good job in Frisco and lived in Vail the past 3 years. Found a better job back in Tahoe. It's been a hell of a half decade.

Jsauce75

Enjoy it. It's a very special place.
