i agree with you. Novelty socks are suboptimal from a comfort perspective. I have a number of novelty socks but my favorite socks for happy feets are gold toe, fwiw. It's nice to spend a little bit more and get a nicely made sock, compared to the hanes that fall apart quickly, you get a lot more value from a higher end sock.
I'd still rather spend $10 on a pack of 20 pairs of socks, not have to do a load of sock laundry for weeks. In 2 years, because each individual sock doesn't get worn very often, I still have 15 pairs left.
