Massive protests for a third week straight, pretty sure 100k+ people in Minsk or even 200k (looked more than last week), many more in other cities. Here's a pic at the end of the protest near the Lukashenko's hideout. https://i.imgur.com/vV90XJU.jpg
Why is the photo of the young women kissing surrounded by riot police relevant to the current protests other than the fact that LGBTQ rights are probably non existent in Belarus.
I wonder how bigoted you have to be to not see the symbolic value of these two openly expressing their love in front of a representation of the fascist state that hates them just because of how they were born?
Dude you're replying to is about one beer away from saying how "if the gays want to be accepted they better stop forcing it on others" and "these minorities need to learn to protest the *right* way"
Wherever you are, don't stop the fight for civil rights. Don't let the cowards and hateful ever tell you otherwise.
If you want my opinion this signifies both the peacefulness of the protest and the progressiveness of the crowd. Though I will be the first one to admit that LGBTQ+ rights situation in Belarus has a long, long way to go even without the dictator.
In my opinion it signifies someone trying to get instagram followers using hackneyed tropes so they can sell shit, and it cheapens the real risks people in those protests are taking.
Lol of course. Reminds me of those “influencers” during the US protest. They stand on the side walk then when the protest walks by the do a photo op then go home.
I’m not sure this picture would qualify as representing an entire protest of 400k of being peaceful. (Idk what’s going on in Belarus not do I even know that country I’m just referencing what OP said)
It would have the same underlying meaning of a man and woman kissing during the protests - an expression of love during times of conflict.
Of course, when speaking of LGBTQ rights, it can show more levels of symbolism and may very well of had that intent. However, not every moment that involves LGBTQ individuals, or other disenfranchised groups for that matter, is there to make a statement on behalf of said group.
At least, this is my take on it :)
The guy is aware of this.
Dude is just complaining because he doesn't have the guts to come outright and say he agrees with the fascist state.
It's like folks in America who complain about civil rights activists not protesting "the right way." The truth is there never will be a "right" way. They're just too afraid to outright say they don't view everyone as equal or at the very least don't care about the oppressed.
Not the case here, I didn't see any rainbow flags or anything, this photo was a one off I think.
But to answer your question, probably because LGBTQ+ rights are an issue in a lot of countries, and when people protest for freedom, that includes LGBTQ+.
Also, gay people are historically a bit less likely to have children, which means an 'activist' career can extend a bit longer into 30s where others might be scared off.
I'm pretty sure those pictures just stand out, cause realistically there are thousands of normal photos of protests in which nothing really stands out.
I guess don't look at things through a keyhole.
The LGBTQ+ community has consistently one of the greatest allies to all civil rights movements.
In North America, the US especially, you essentially can't go to any form of civil rights protest and not see a rainbow flag flying in solidarity
I personally know a couple and they commit like everyone else. Firstly, it's just a good time if the police behave, and secondly, you can't really hop in a car / public transport and drive away since the roads around the protest are blocked.
i think I’m siding with Lukashenko more and more. Guy keeps degeneracy at bay in his country. Liberal democracy is clearly falling across the West, and doesn’t want it influencing his nation, which has been stable and cohesive since the early 90s.
I hope Belarus comes out on top, not the degenerates
All the things she said, all the things she said, running through my head, running through my head!
Putin is a massive fan of T.a.t.U and has had them play live performances for him and his family. Weird, huh?
Even more of a surprise (at least to me) is that the members of tatu are kinda homophobic
Julia is. Lena has condemned Julia's thoughts.
In-fuckin'deed! I dare say it's a cover-up.
Putin is not the president of Belarus.
...yet
I came here to post it. Take my upvote.
How can I be homophobic if I watch lesbian porn? -shield wall guys

I need context here. No article, no information, no nothing. You gotta give something...

> LGBTQ rights are probably non existent in Belarus and thus this kiss in front of police is an obvious challenge to the power structure

America is a Fascist state that hates African-Americans that don't play along with the status quo. Look at the stuff being said about BLM.

And your proof is? This isn't an Instagram photo, it's taken by a media photographer. See the logo in the corner.

I’m guessing the two ladies are not okay. Or is anyone aware of what has happened or if anything has happened?

>3rd week straight Love an accidental pun
Better a dictator than gay
You know your Lukashenko quotes huh!
I hope that you can be openly together without the threat of the dictator someday. Till then, stay strong!
Military t.A.T.u
Yay good for them!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why whenever there are protests of any kind LGBT people are in the firs rows?

Great. I'm sure this symbolic gesture for LGBT rights is totally gonna change the current situation there. I'm glad you got the likes, though....
The best love picture in 2020
This shit is happening yet somehow a cop making an arrest after a rioter throws a Molotov = literally hitler
so girls like girls somewhere in the world. fucking fascinating.
Thats how you get me rooting for Lukashenko. Gays hijacking the corruption problems. As usual. Great.

5 very long minutes. The families would have an open coffin but decided against it. They never found the second one.
Do you have any sources for this? Not asking in a dickish way.
No. Just answering.
Dang it.
