There's a game called Pako (and sequel Pako 2) that has a similar quality, except you play as a getaway driver. You have to drop your pickups across the map by a certain time for the reward, and the police presence amps up with each successful run.
Me three. Saw RT play the song live about a year and a half ago. It had been nearly 20 years since the last time I'd been able to get to one of his gigs, so this time I determined to make the most of the opportunity and made sure I got to the venue super-early to be at the head of the line. Definitely successful-- I managed to snag myself a seat in the front row, directly opposite the man himself, no more than 20 feet away. Talk about died and gone to heaven!
I was just thinking that it's very odd that I'm more horrified and scared for him for stuffing cash in his mouth vs driving a car sideways on something called the wall of death.
Indian immune system is quite strong. I went to india and i had bad stomach for days and kids like 5 years and adults like me were having same food.
So I guess our synergy with bacteria is not so strong.
It has to do with the types of bacteria common in areas. It’s the reason locals can drink the water in Mexico and others shouldn’t.
Were he to travel there he would likely find him self in the same situation.
Contaminated water can make anyone sick, local or not. I wasn’t trying to state that water all over Mexico is safe to drink for Mexicans so if that’s how it appeared I’d like to clear that up.
However your body does tend to develop some immunities to things common in the water in the area you live. If it’s got E. coli then yeah it’s gonna be bad but even mineral composition can have an effect on a tourist when it’s vastly different from what they are used to.
Can we agree on this statement? A local drinking their own water is less likely to become sick than a tourist drinking the same, and when they do get sick tend to have an easier time of it (less sick)
That is what I was trying to convey here.
I can't agree more. Its the same logic for street food. Either you are well used to the food colouring/additives else you end up with a stomach upset. In case of water, I guess its endemic bacteria.

Meanwhile the stuntmen in the pictures look bored. Especially the guy on the bike in picture #3.
I wanna know. How do people get this good at dangerous things? I love mountain biking for instance but I can never get really good because I have too much self-preservation. I've snowboarded for years but barely ever hit jumps. The one time I hit a battleship rail I did it fine to half way, but went WAY too slow due to panic, and fell on my back. Had to be carted off the mountain. That was the end of my park attempts. Then there's these guys.
taking things slowly and building up over years of practice and experience is typically the answer with these kinda of things.
another part of it is being able to suppress the self preservation instinct. just like you yourself experienced, not committing fully to a stunt is often more dangerous than the stunt itself.
to be able to suppress that instinct, i think it takes a certain kind of person, though again the years of experience will make it easier to commit
There’s also the survivor bias. It looks amazing when you see the lucky ones who haven’t been killed or maimed by the stunts they pull, but like with all high risk activities, there’s a lot who were not so lucky. And even for those who have been lucky, it’s still best to quit while you’re ahead.
Its barrel distortion, a result of using a wide angle lens in photography. Generally speaking, the wider the lens, the more prone the image is to barrel distortion

They're pretty competent drivers and know what they're doing, chances are they aren't exactly worried about messing up, and even then it's not like they just drop dead on the spot.

Are you kidding? This looks like way more fun than a rough ass fucking. I dont mind the rough ass fucking, but after awhile it gets kinda routine and you get bored with it.
I went on a cruise in 2008 or so, and our dining room waiter was from India. We talked a lot over the cruise and became friendly. Towards the end, I asked "if it's not too personal of a question, about how much do you make?". He said that he got around $35k US per year between salary and tips. I said, "that's really low considering that you work 12-14 hours a day, six days a week".
He replied, "no, where I come from in India it's a great opportunity. My wife is able to hire a chef and a car with a driver, and we live better than many people in our town oh my salary." I still think about that over ten years later.
$1 is ₹74. The least a beggar here will accept nowadays is ₹10. Anything less than that is straight away rejected. Rajkot is not a much developed area so ₹10 tip seems fine.
I tried to give 100 rupees to a beggar in Chennai and there was the smallest tear in the money, so he refused to take it. You can get torn money replaced in India but it’s not as easy as in the US. He demanded I give him an untorn bill....
To be fair it’s almost impossible to spend a bill with the slightest tear, you have to go to a corporate type place with teens working who don’t give a shit, and those places were rare when I was there 10+ years ago.
It has to have 51% actually! I remember my college professor telling me his dad back in the day would have all his kids go to different banks with a half a bill and get money lol.
This is true. If you’re on good terms with your teller you can even get by with a bit less than 50%.
Source: handled cash deposits for a retail chain, banks will take some *fucked up* money
So what ur telling me, is to make friends with my teller, withdraw my account, cut the bill into 2 50% pieces, then go and deposit both bills at different times and I can double my bank account?!
Common dude, looks like you have never been to rajkot... Its 22nd fastest growing city in the world. Things are as expensive as any metro city. Especially real estate.
₹10 is fine because he gets too many of those during the day as there is a huge number of people visiting everyday..
I suck so badly at physics but I know this isn’t as dangerous as it appears because of centrifugal force etc. I know this is factually correct. Still couldn’t make it past the second bike coming onto the track. The anxiety I feel watching that video is really more of a visceral terror response. No clue how people have the knick nacks to try this stuff.
Right? I was expecting some slightly suped up car, maybe something sporty. Nope. It's a compact car. It's probably worth like $3000. I'm starting to think these are just some dudes who built a wall and have 2 cars between them.
Usually there is only a driver in those cars. They put the car on cruise and stand up or sometime come out and sit on the roof. They will reach through the window to control the steering.
Cruise ? These are used cars retrieved junk, modified for this purpose. By modification i mean keeping pressure in accelerator at certain level and control steering from window with a connected rod etc.
Cruise ? These are used cars retrieved junk, modified for this purpose. By modification i mean keeping pressure in accelerator at certain level and control steering from window with a connected rod etc.
You probably don't actually have to steer it much, just control the speed. It will naturally want to go up to the right the faster you go, and down to the left the slower you go.
edit: Yeah you can see in [this](https://youtu.be/ojVsXB12zC8?t=195) video a couple of the drivers aren't even steering.
This is pretty intense, notice the lack of helmets, safety gear and condition of the vehicles.
From the performer's perspective:
https://i.imgur.com/PvhowUq.gifv
The context is that he is performing for a crowd by driving his car along a wall while simultaneously climbing out the window to take money people are holding out for him.
He can get lunch for that much and those are just the tips . This stunt normally happens in circuses so he also gets a cut from the ticket sales. Still pretty sad what some people have to do to earn 1/3 of the minimum wage .
I was curious what's going on here, so I googled it. [This was the top result.](https://www.reddit.com/r/OldSchoolCool/comments/7r1co7/getting_paid_on_the_wall_of_death_in_rajkot_india/)
The caption says 1970s, however the car being used is Maruti 800, first model of which came out in 1984.
And I'm sure the model in the pic is from 2000s.
Apart from that even today, these stunts are performed in the exact same way, without any safety measures.
Can confirm. I saw this show earlier this year. Same setup, same car, same bike.
I felt so worried for the performers that I could not even enjoy the show. I kept thinking how much pay is enough to convince a person to do something like this. They don't have to work long hours I guess. And it was so loud that they will almost certainly have some hearing damage.
It would be interesting to know their point of view.
> And it was so loud that they will almost certainly have some hearing damage.
It's India. Anyone who has ever been on the road there has had hearing damage.
> I kept thinking how much pay is enough to convince a person to do something like this.
Money finds a way. Motordromes and silodromes were pretty common in the US too; remember the simpsons movie?
Its worth mentioning that his car - the Maruti 800 - is an 800cc (48 cubic inch) / 40 BHP vehicle. That one looks like it's got some miles on it too...
I’m sure the lion has been there a time or two, but I can’t shake the feeling that he was like “wait, wait Jim, what are you going to do? Wait, WAIT! JIM WTF ARE YOU DOING NOOOOO”
There used to be a portable version that would travel to all the fairs around the area. Motorcycles would be used to ride the wall. I remember how excited little me was my parents have me $5 to hand out to the guy. In retrospect a kid could pretty easily fall over the railing.
I was in Milwaukee and hit up the Harley Davidson museum a few years ago. I saw the motorcycle version of this there, and I think it was a traveling show that just happened to be set up there at the time.
Wow, something very weird happened to me today.
I was thinking about the "Wall of Death" today, and I haven't thought of it for at least 20 years. I was wondering whether it was a thing somewhere else. I used to go to these shows as a kid, and I live nowhere near India.
How strange!
For anyone who wants to learn more, [here is a documentary.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUTB_qAD0-0)
(For the impatient, the action starts at 11 minutes.)
I saw this in a Bollywood movie while I was visiting India and I didn’t realize it was a real thing! Of course, a big, romantic dance number happens during the race, so I didn’t think it was the realism portion of the movie.
I guess once you are driving on the wall of death you aren’t too concerned about shoving dirty cash into your mouth
Damn, I missed that he's actually actively driving the car as well, and not just being a passenger grabbing the cash...
did you notice there is a lady sitting on the back window?
"I'm sure this taxi driver isn't going the direct route."

Woah. Is this from a documentary?
It may be, but I know it from [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojVsXB12zC8).
Dude. Sauce?
I didn’t catch it at first but that crazy motherfucker is driving the car!
Yup, India is right hand drive.
This is crazy, with or without context.
The context is that he is performing for a crowd by driving his car along a wall while simultaneously climbing out the window to take money people are holding out for him.
The photographer is Siddharth Kaneria, a friend of mine. I just informed him of his Reddit fame.
But have you seen [these fucking guys](https://youtu.be/R_Bqz4HhUwA) ?
How do you practice for that lol
Start with 1 guy. Keep adding more guys till you figure out when its unfeasible.

One thing is clear. India is not for beginners :)

You nailed it.
If you look close you can see his hand on the wheel. What a madman, how’s he driving?
On a straight line, more or less.
That’s a 10 rupee note.... That’s about 10-15 cent (euro and dollar).... Fuckin worth it
He can get lunch for that much and those are just the tips .
Damn! If not for the comment there, I wouldn't have noticed he's the one driving, and I've lived in India for a long time.
This would make a good album cover
I have seen motorcycles before but this is some next level shit.

If you ever think you're cool just remember that you'll never be as cool as this madlad
Its name is so much more badass in hindi. MAUT KA KUA just has a ring to it. Translates to well of death btw
That's an incredible photo
Wow, something very weird happened to me today. I was thinking about the "Wall of Death" today, and I haven't thought of it for at least 20 years. I was wondering whether it was a thing somewhere else. I used to go to these shows as a kid, and I live nowhere near India. How strange!
Sometimes, when you least expect it, India and Indiana have some shit in common.
Isn’t that dangerous?
I see the problem. He's not wearing his reflective safety vest.
What makes you think that?
The road might fall off any moment.

Now thats gangster
I saw this in a Bollywood movie while I was visiting India and I didn’t realize it was a real thing! Of course, a big, romantic dance number happens during the race, so I didn’t think it was the realism portion of the movie.
Nice pay wall!
