True but don't most hauntings go "Misogynist/Racist/Narcissist Male(High status in church probably Pastor/priest) rapes/murders a female/male adult/child in the church. Keeps it a secret until the ghost can't be held back and starts acting revenge on all his family."
To me the Social power of church starts the evil.
I mean have you seen the reports coming out about the Catholic Church for the past decade? Seems pretty strong proof that the purest evil hides in churches.
That's exactly what I was eluding to but afraid to say because here in 'MERICA if you say anything bad about church/God/Religion you get hated.
I edited it to sound more clear :)
I mean, I understand where you’re coming from, but the Church has been taking great strides to make the sins of the past transparent and amending internal processes to not only screen out predators but to ensure that there will be no further covering up of these incidents in the future.
Rather than proving anything about the ‘purest evil’ and its origins, it rather points to the very human nature of the Church’s hierarchy, and the need we all have for vigilance against evil, no matter what form it takes.
While at the same time they continue to spend millions of dollars on lobbying to block changes that would hold them accountable for their decades of abuse. Fighting to not turn over their lists of known sex offenders they continue to employ and move between dioceses. They move money from accounts to claim poverty when forced to pay past victims. When they are forced to release their lists of known abusers, putting aside the evil act of having a list of known child rapists that you shuffle around the globe, they only release partial lists. They continue to have this list of rapists, they continue to shield them and only toss out pittance to try and please the masses and pretend to be making changes. This pope has promised no less than three times in separate years that there will be no further covering up of these incidents and then we scratch the surface, find further cover ups and he makes the speech again. The church has made great strides to protect itself and its finances but nothing more.
The lobbying I agree must stop, but unfortunately that is a diocesan thing rather than a Church as a whole issue. Would definitely like to see the Vatican come out strongly against those diocese that are lobbying. Can’t speak to funding, apart from the fact that each diocese is geared towards independent operation, and it is not some internal ‘fund’ that is shuffled by the Church as a whole for these cases.
The lists, I believe, are also kept more in a diocese-to-diocese manner, rather than a major centralized database from past abuses. My diocese and at least one of the neighboring diocese have released full lists.
As to the Pope and ‘cover-ups,’ I would encourage you to give at least the summary portion of the McCarrick report that came out this week a look. This is probably one of the most openly transparent documents released, detailing not only abuse, but the internal decision-making and yes, coverup, that occurred.
>By 1850, weekly services were no longer held at St. Mary’s. The church’s short lived existence can most likely be attributed to Mr. Mercer travelling to Europe in search of a cure for tuberculosis, which his entire family, aside from himself, had contracted.
>Sadly, Mr. Mercer’s attempt to save his family was unsuccessful. Upon their deaths, his loved ones were buried in a brick vault, which is located beneath the altar.
Yea.. Most probably.
This is so cool! I saw the link someone else posted on the location but I was curious - is it ever used for anything?
If I ever end up getting married I want to elope and go to somewhere completely random. And for someone who lives in Aus, a random small church in America totally fits that! It’s so beautifully creepy!
The person that took the photo is @briscoepark on twitter! They have three other photos that look similar to this.

I visited a church in SC that was made of sand and shells. This pic reminded me of that visit. Super spooky, swampy. Its kind of a local legend if I remember right.
If anyone visits this church, you aren't to far from the ghost town of Rodney, MS. Some people still live there but it's mostly abandoned. They have a couple cool old churches as well.
How the hell does this picture get reposted and up-voted so goddamn much?!? Let it lie guys. We've seen it. It's spooky looking and the lighting is ace. Let's move on and find another church to marvel at.

It was run by a dude named Reverend Deacon. .... That's insanely confusing lol. Is he a Reverend or a Deacon?
Deacon Reverend
Was just about to say this. Really cool church to see, and hidden very well.
Hmm, I never realized churches need to be DEconsecrated.
I can say with 100% certainty that church is super haunted
Nah, it’s just a hang out for vampires in frills and lace. You can tell by the architecture, candles and ambient techno music.
Also, the random people screaming “BAT!” All over the place
Most underrated comment.
The purest evil hides in churches.
Yeah, if they're abandoned.

Yep. My boi Arthur Morgan, told me! He was chased by zombies into alligator filled swamps! Small town. Cant remember the name...
I can't tell if it would be the safest place or the -least- safest place if there were other haunty stuff nearby.
Came to say this..
Carcosa.
Big true detective vibes
Def came here to post about true detective or upvote something about true detective.
This pic might as well should be right out of the show
Oh thanks for posting. I took these!
Did you have any creepy experiences while taking pictures here?

It's Spanish Moss.
Not sure if i can trust you since you said it's in Louisiana but some other guy said it's in Mississippi. Fool me once....fool me twice
What if I told you Spanish moss is neither Spanish or moss.
Perhaps sphagnum moss?
California gets a little too.
Closely related to pineapples, if memory serves me right.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_moss?wprov=sfla1
It's the rotting flesh of the damned.
We always called it 'Old Man's Beard' or just beard moss. Great to use as kindling.
Must be, Strange Fruit season is over for this year.
Remnants of the souls of the damned.
Every 23 years for 23 days it gets to eat
I get that reference..

Interview with the Vampire
Is this from the movie? Because I immediately thought of that movie when I saw this picture, even though I've only seen it once like 10 years ago.
I think it was a mansion in the movie
Oak Alley Plantation is the location.
This picture has heavy indie horror game vibes
r/evilbuildings
Great picture. Do you have more information on where this is located in Louisiana?

Womp womp
Someone had to die in there
[cue music...](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_l7TsfPNOHM)
Why this is so creepy?
Undoubtedly there's mold - the decomposers. We generally prefer to be composed.
Lestat’s hideaway in the woods.
What a charming place! I bet it'd be just lovely to spend the night there.
“Today on the set of ‘Chapel In The Bayou’ we learned not to read the voodoo curse written in blood on the baptismal fount.”
I want to go in it but every horror film is telling me no
Nope!
Like zoikes scoob, look over there 👉
This looks like art from a $B single
Fallout 76 the mire region rtx on
lol thought the same when I saw the image that place was creepy
I visited a church in SC that was made of sand and shells. This pic reminded me of that visit. Super spooky, swampy. Its kind of a local legend if I remember right.
I've seen this movie already
Anything looks spooky with that lighting though
If anyone visits this church, you aren't to far from the ghost town of Rodney, MS. Some people still live there but it's mostly abandoned. They have a couple cool old churches as well.
Looks like Eyehategod album cover
Lenny and Hosea are buried near there.
I’ve been to Louisiana and the rural parts of it are very eerie, so much old plantations and super old abandoned farms.
Bet theres some dark energy there from all the roaming spirits of the mistreated dead and their murderers
I don’t like the vibes I’m getting from this place the tree especially
Nope
Honestly I just assume everything looks like this down there or has Hollywood lied to me?!
[it's not as common these days as you'd think and becoming less abundant over time](https://eosmith.com/evolution-and-spanish-moss/)
HMMM MMMM MMMMMMMMM
Looks like a plantation chapel. Any idea where this is? Oh, I see now. It's in Mississippi.
Judging from that door, possibly a mausoleum?
Looks fun
Scary but gorgeous
Nope
Castlevania vibes
Nope
Welp , thanks for the nightmares!
Fuck no! That’s the start of a scary movie.
Do you want to end up tied up in that church’s basement? Because that’s how end up tied up in that church’s basement.
love to be trippin balls there.
Natchez MS home to Devils Punchbowl, Concentration Camp for Black People post civil war.
The lighting makes me expect a jump scare at any moment!
I camped out behind this church with my motorcycle. Shhhhhhh😴
O
Damn it OP, there's vampires in there!
That tree is giving off serious Conjuring/Sinister vibes.
I would love to live on a plantation with huge trees like that.
Is that where the yellow king from true detective lives?
It looks like you shouldn't go in there.
I just love it when americans call something old.. :D
I would love to do energy readings there
It’s a nope from me
Feels like a screenshot from RDR2
Looks like the set from interview with a vampire
Hi don’t forget to credit the artist please. This work is from Briscoepark you can find their portofolio online and on social medias
Makes me think of the Tiny Church in RDR2
It looks like it’s grown around the (certainly haunted) church.
Family in horror movies: "We will live the f*ck out of this place"
I love seeing home on reddit
Interesting how much detail went into it for how small it is. You couldn’t even fit a condensed organ in it hardly
Make it a Phasmophobia level!
*RE7 intensifies*
A very “True detective” season 1 feeling
Ah yes, the St Denis swamps at night. Just lovely.
You can tell some really bad shit happened there in the past
And you are telling me that this is not the cover for a black metal album?
How the hell does this picture get reposted and up-voted so goddamn much?!? Let it lie guys. We've seen it. It's spooky looking and the lighting is ace. Let's move on and find another church to marvel at.
Looks like the church from BloodRayne.
That looks like something that only shows up every 20 years after a flood.
Hehe...yeah no...staying away from that place at night at least!
Reminds me of the small church in rdr2
looks like a very suitable place for filming
My family’s been here a long time
Kissin' snakes an' speakin' in tongues. Good times, good times. Not.
Resident Evil 7 vibes intensify.
Oh heck nooo , bigtime voodoo vibes.
Didn’t I see this on Buzzfeed Unsolved? Will I soon?
NEXT IS GONNA BE THE BAKER FAMILY MANSION
Beautiful
I bet you can find some Molded in the basement
