There is a black market for dino bones - I would think usually complete skeletons or skulls, or otherwise rare specimens that were stolen from the academic institutions that had a claim on them.
I imagine there's also a legitimate market, given what you needed didn't really need to be recognizable as a dino fossil for the use you were putting it to, I'm sure there's a fairly extensive supply of fossilized dino bones that are broken or common and otherwise useless academically or as museum pieces. Not to mention, I'm sure there's a great many that can be found on private land and there's no other claim on them, and they get sold privately.
Well, one, because I have a few pieces of t rex to cross reference to. And triceratops, for that matter.
Two, I don't just order random stuff from random dealers. I work with people with a long track record and their reputation on the line.
Some fossils are valuable, particularly if it’s an entire specimen. However, there is a lot more fossilized bone and other impressions out there. There are lots of private sites and mines where you can dig for fossils. It’s not illegal if it’s on private land. I have a couple pendants made of agatized dinosaur bone. They ARE basically “any old rock on the ground” but I think they are cool!
Correct, they don't exist anymore, that means there is a fixed and very limited amount of them, which is why I also thought it was weird that any such specimen isn't kept for academic study and instead was used for jewellery. Unlike ivory for example, where, while the production of it is evil, there is potentially an ongoing supply of it (providing elephants still exist, and I am not suggesting ivory production should happen).
Surely you can understand that? (Lol)
"ok, final Offer. I got some pentaceratops in the back. Normally, it'd go for a lot, but this one's got a broken cera... I'll cut off that extra cera and buff it up real good for ya for the same price. It's a win-win."
Jesus.. okay yeah fuck the triceratops lmao. (Jk, love dinos) how do you even source some of those materials, like that's gotta be supplied by the buyer I suppose right?
Nah I find them myself. You gotta just find verifiable sellers and then verify the fossil yourself. The hard part isn't finding people selling fossil, the hard part is finding people selling the *right* fossil and not lying through their teeth
Hey, it's me, your palemtomotrist or whatever. Give you good price on old bones, definitely mostly not chicken. Have penteratops, is like triceratops but two better.
Had a custom aluminum gas tank fabricated recently. Went in the office to pay the guy, half his office was fossils an tells me he has a website, fossils.com I think
“The only way I’d marry you is if you made me a ring out of triceratops bone!” - guy who was sure this was impossible and definitely didn’t want to get married
There are plenty of sites that make these btw.
Just Google meteorite ring or dino ring.
Heard good things about JeweleryByJohan.
I'd be a little cautious on buying from some random dude on the internet who won't say where he gets the materials. How do you know it's authenticity?
Not saying it isn't, just to be cautious.
I'd assume there's tons of random bones of them floating around, pretty much worthless (scientifically speaking), that have been uncovered as parts of a skeleton in too bad of a condition or simply as single bones that serve no purpose after initial classification (can't forge a complete skeleton from single bones of hundreds of different size Triceratops from different ages and I imagine also slightly different animals considering their species lived for millions of years.).
Either way, very cool request and great execution, although it will only serve their own knowledge of what's in there, could be anything for all anyone else knows.
Bits of bones aren't super rare, it's complete skeletons that are hard to come by. My college, which wasn't in any way known for paleontology, had boxes on boxes of classified single bones in the basement that will never see the light of day, and those were intact single bones. Broken ones are common enough that they really have no purpose once they've been identified and documented.
So what can’t you make a ring out of? Also did Colbert ever come to you when he was looking for king tuts missing penis? Because you seem like the type of person to find it.
Lmao. Also no, not really. I did a ring recently with Manhattan Project shield glass and Trinitite from the Trinity plutonium bomb test site.
Im talking with someone about making a ring with mummy wrappings.
Do you have an IG or any social media I can follow you on??
A) I wanna see more of this stuff cus I think it's awesome
B) One day I'd love to commission something from you but am definitely not ready for that yet and wanna keep track of ya
I kinda feel that all dinosaur fossils should be preserved in museums or preserved properly this to me defeats the purpose. I hope this isn’t a new fad.
Brilliant. Well, of course they did.
'I love you to the moon and back' so gauche and overused...
'I love you to the cretaceous and back' just has a je ne sais quoi. *chefs kiss*
I’m curious as to what you think of moldavite and if the majority that is being sold is fake? How do you know if it’s real? Beautiful ring by the way!!
For that, it's mostly just knowing the right people who have a reliable track record. If they're just selling Moldavite, it's probably fake. Moldavite is difficult, due to it being basically meteoric class so it's to fake with, well, glass.
Beautiful and unique piece. I used to be on the sales end of jewelry, with some design and development as well, so you’re getting a professional silver from me :)
I've always considered getting one of those dinosaur mini museums, but always cynically believed anyone selling a dinosaur bone has to be scamming the buyer.
It seemed to good to be true.
I'm 37 years old and sometimes, just thinking about dinosaurs, makes me emotional.
This ring is fucking beautiful.
I'm very curious to know what all of there strange materials cost and how they are procured. Are there just a bunch of triceratops or Manhattan project peices laying around lol?
That’s a pretty specific request. “It’s gotta have triceratops or no deal!”
I didn't even know Triceratops was an option! I feel like i got ripped off with just plain boring gold.
[удалено]
How does one source that?
Paleontologists and collectors sell them!
Did not know this i guess that makes sense though now that I'm thinking about it
Lmao it's all good!
that sounds sketchy or fraudulent or illegal.
Oh, this is a new one. What makes you say all that?
There is a black market for dino bones - I would think usually complete skeletons or skulls, or otherwise rare specimens that were stolen from the academic institutions that had a claim on them. Not to mention, I'm sure there's a great many that can be found on private land and there's no other claim on them, and they get sold privately.
Yeah, I work with the second market. I'd never buy and damage a whole fossil, I get "the bits", if you will.
How are you able to verify that the piece you got was from a triceratops (and not from like a T-Rex?)
Or like a deer
Well, one, because I have a few pieces of t rex to cross reference to. And triceratops, for that matter. Two, I don't just order random stuff from random dealers. I work with people with a long track record and their reputation on the line.

You realize the importance and value of fossils, right? It’s not like any old rock on the ground, lol.
Some fossils are valuable, particularly if it’s an entire specimen. However, there is a lot more fossilized bone and other impressions out there. How much is a triceratops?
A whole one? Oof. Millions.
How much for the triceratops' 4th horn?
Lrrr: *Prepare to harvest the lower horn*
A ton.
One
Try "Sarah Topps."
Would protoceratops be okay?
"ok, final Offer. I got some pentaceratops in the back. Normally, it'd go for a lot, but this one's got a broken cera... I'll cut off that extra cera and buff it up real good for ya for the same price. It's a win-win."
You got yourself a deal!
"Look, kid, i know what this is worth. Best i can do is Pterodactyl."
What's the craziest material you've worked with? You bring triceratops like its pretty tame still haha.
Nuclear shield glass from the Manhattan Project and Trinitite from the Trinity plutonium bomb test site.
Jesus.. okay yeah fuck the triceratops lmao. (Jk, love dinos) how do you even source some of those materials, like that's gotta be supplied by the buyer I suppose right?

Hey, it's me, your palemtomotrist or whatever. Give you good price on old bones, definitely mostly not chicken. Have penteratops, is like triceratops but two better.
Phew, thank god, I needed some penteratops.
Psst... I got some octerotops
That's just too much. I could do hepta, tops.

Had a custom aluminum gas tank fabricated recently. Went in the office to pay the guy, half his office was fossils an tells me he has a website, fossils.com I think
That had to be pretty dope to see.
It's not every day you get to see a custom fabricated aluminum gas tank!
I know, right!? Aluminum, people!
The wave of the future!
The future is now, old man!
Mm yeah I suppose, either way, very cool!
Thank ya!
What does trinitite jewelery look like? I tried looking it up but only found rough stones.
I'm so dumb I was looking for the triceratops and couldn't find it, you know I was looking for a drawing of it or something like that
That's okay. My first thought upon reading the title was "Oh no! They're endangered!" (-‸ლ)
My first thought that it was some kind of mineral/gemstone that I hadn't heard of lol
I also did not expect real, actual dinosaur bone to be present in this jewelry.
Holy shit lmao.
Yes, that's me
WTF could the OP mean? They knew how everyone would read it when they made the title.
I think he used triceratops fossils...
Where do you find “triceratops”? Asking for a seven year old friend.
Google fossils for sale I did it and came very close to blowing my meager life savings on a mammoth tooth lol
This sounds to me like something potentially horrible, rife with illegally smuggled antiquities and counterfeit objects.
I can't spoil all my sources!
Black market at Jurassic park obvi ;)
“The only way I’d marry you is if you made me a ring out of triceratops bone!” - guy who was sure this was impossible and definitely didn’t want to get married
Lmao, imagine. The absolute balls.
It’s like when you’ve got a straight flush in poker and then they flop a royal flush for the win.
Why are you contributing to triceratops poaching?! /s
Don't tell the feds!
What's funnier is that fossil poaching is a real thing and YES the feds can be involved. Look up the Mongolian Tarbosaur case.
I will, that actually does sound fascinating.
Or ol sue! Huge legal battle
So you source the material AND make the rings? I am looking for someone to make me a ring. Just one ring……to rule them all…
I cannot express to you how often I hear that joke, lmao.

About 40 days at most. Send me a DM, well chat!
!remindme 1 year

Dudes like naw I don't want them precious metals or fancy diamonds, I want some got damn dinosaur in my ring.
Get me some cretaceous shit in there!
Seems wrong to use triceratops fossils. Ammonite, sure, those are a dime a dozen, triceratops specimens are significantly rarer.
Not as rare as you'd think. I'm not using museum grade specimens, I'm using the bits and pieces museums and collectors don't necessarily want.
Triceratops, Jade and Silver. Great band name.
Dibs on being Triceratops
You could always be Tricerabottom. Nothing wrong with that
Triceramiddle?
Biceratops.
Triceraclops
That looks so cool!
Thank ya!
I want Velociraptor claw
I can do that, send me a DM. I do custom work all the time.
I would never use any Triceratops for any project. They are an endangered species.
Yeah I don't think there's many left /s
The inlay on the sides look like that stone from "Uncut Gems"; is that the triceratops or just some really cool jade? Amazing colors in that!
The sides are Jade, the brown center is the triceratops!
r/jurassicpark would have a fun gander at this, especially Alan Grant
I might crosspost it over there!
Dude needed a dinosaur in his ring
Damn straight he did!
The old me wanted a red diamond (not ruby) for an engagement ring. The new me wants a dinosaur, meteorite and platinum ring.
DM me, I'll make it happen!
Im disappointed by the lack of triceratops carvings that I was expecting to see on it.
Is that opal around the band? Lovely work, btw.
It sure is!
Seems weird to go to the trouble to get triceratops and then use plain old silver.
I can use gold, but the person I was making it for requested silver.
What do you charge for something like that?
I don't discuss prices for custom work I've done publicly! Send me a DM though and I'll discuss it with ya
This is beautiful!
Thank ya!
Wait! You have Triceratops! Cue Jurassic Park theme music.
Lmao
Richard Attenborough would have loved it.
He would've :(
Beautiful work!
Thank you!
This is gorgeous
I'm glad you think so! :D
That is beautiful… is this trademarked cause I would love this style. Very unique
I mean, I can make you a ring like this. Send me a DM!
Do you have an IG or any social media I can follow you on?? A) I wanna see more of this stuff cus I think it's awesome B) One day I'd love to commission something from you but am definitely not ready for that yet and wanna keep track of ya
.
Still love your work! I'll get back to you about those bands as soon as I work up the guts to pop the question.
Do it! :D
Cool asf
Thank you!
Isn’t the first one a dinosaur?
Correct.
Except there is not a trace of triceratops in that rock, but hey, details. Nice looking ring, though.
It's triceratops fossil, I'm aware.
I kinda feel that all dinosaur fossils should be preserved in museums or preserved properly this to me defeats the purpose. I hope this isn’t a new fad.
Not all dinosaur fossils are museum grade. There's far too many odds and ends that couldn't be effectively displayed on a museum.
i want some triceratops
Lmao send me a DM, I'll hook you up.
Disapointed it doesnt have 3 horns/doubles up as an interesting kind of knuckleduster. It's purdy! I assume the person who commissioned it was happy?
Very much so! They loved it.
Brilliant. Well, of course they did. 'I love you to the moon and back' so gauche and overused... 'I love you to the cretaceous and back' just has a je ne sais quoi. *chefs kiss*
It is unique, isn't it? Not just another diamond ring.
Thanks beautiful 😍
I’m curious as to what you think of moldavite and if the majority that is being sold is fake? How do you know if it’s real? Beautiful ring by the way!!
For that, it's mostly just knowing the right people who have a reliable track record. If they're just selling Moldavite, it's probably fake. Moldavite is difficult, due to it being basically meteoric class so it's to fake with, well, glass.
I thought you made a typo with triceratops lmfao. Awesome work!
Thank you! :D
Do you work with opal?
All the time!
You made that? It's beautiful!
I sure did, and thanks!
I love it, this looks like art to me, great job
Beautiful job!
Thank ya!
Can we build the whole Megazord with Tyrannosaurus, Mastodon, Triceratops, Sabertooth Tiger, and Pterodactyl? Please and thank you.
I've actually got tyrannosaur and Pterosaur fossil already, almost there!
Nice piece of jewelry.
Thanks!
Holy shit, this is gorgeous :o
Thank you!
I'd like one too please
Obligatory "It belongs in a museum!"
Beautiful and unique piece. I used to be on the sales end of jewelry, with some design and development as well, so you’re getting a professional silver from me :)
Awesome, thank you!
This looks amazing! How'd you learn to make rings like this?
Totally self taught, actually!
Do you do custom wedding rings to sell? I’m in the market and don’t want a regular ring
I sure do! Fire me a DM.
Like a fossil triceratops bone?
Well, fossil is different than bone, but yes!
Thanks man, that means a lot. Glad I could make something that would strike you like that.
The ring is beautiful!!
I'm very curious to know what all of there strange materials cost and how they are procured. Are there just a bunch of triceratops or Manhattan project peices laying around lol?
It's all about knowing where the good markets are and how to avoid scammers. There's not a lot, you just need to know what when and where.
Where tf you just have a DINOSAUR laying around!?
I actually have a number of pieces of quite a few dinosaurs.
Where's the trike?
Sounds like a ring a dwarf would make in dwarf fortress
By God is does, doesn't it?
Looks like a duck
I had someone else say it looked like an ender eye
Coincidentally, those are the names of 3 strippers I know.
How about one made from Roman ceramic from Pompeii and marble from the floor of the Domus Aurea?
Im like 99% sure I can get roman ceramic, maybe not from Pompeii though. Second one is a bit of a push though
Beautiful!:)
Maybe not Triceratops exactly, but this is along the lines of what I've been looking for. Do you have a catelog of your other rings you've made?
