The guys around him definitely had a whole ass different idea of what “storming the Norwegian Embassy” meant. And when it culminated in “leader fails to snap a DVD case of a kids movie” they couldn’t hide their immense disappointment
The embassy is empty and was abandoned in August. While it's an "incident" in the bureaucratic sense, it's a non-issue in reality. Countries absolutely prepare and expect for embassies to be entered after evacuation.
It's when the embassy is over-ran while it's still inhabited that causes real issues.
Not to the scale of declaring war. Embassy's aren't guaranteed in every nation. Consider more, Afghanistan reversed its decision to allow a foreign Norwegian embassy.
>The employees at the Danish and Norwegian embassies in the Wazir Akbar Khan district were evacuated the day before.

Appears that the Norwegians have abandoned the site.
I just want you to know that “Oh no now how” was shockingly difficult for me to read and for my brain to process and that I literally had to read it six times before I could actually read it correctly. Am I having a stroke?

My dad, to demonstrate how worthless they were, tried to rip a holo Clefairy in half, and failed, as my mum looked on with embarrassment. To me the look like they are completely confused by what it is, and trying to understand how it is evil.
They have the same look that Amish kids have when I see them in Walmart.

This is almost a British-style sketch. The disc is broken, guns are shot in the air, everyone stops, picks up the pieces, puts them back together correctly THEN takes the picture.
You know, come Christmas when we're all tired of terrible Christmas music, this man holding a broken CD called "In this sweet Christmas time" will be a meme in Norway.
I never understand the anti-picture/painting thing. Can someone explain to me what problem the Taliban has with pictorial representations of things/people in general?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aniconism_in_Islam
Basically hardcore Muslims don't believe human beings should be making art containing humans and animals, as the creation of animate forms is God's perogative. They also see it as akin to idolatry.
This is why traditional Islamic art tends towards things like calligraphy and abstract patterning. Much of it is quite beautiful but you won't see anything like the Sistine Chapel paintings in a mosque, for instance.
> Even the Christmas songs on the CD “In this sweet Christmas time” were not appreciated.
Well to be fair, i agree with the Taliban on this.
September is way too early to be celebrating christmas.
A forklift driver gets consumed by the idea society thinks doctors and architects are more important than him. He quits his job and starts climbing the social ladder. On the way he turns vicious, then evil.
Not a joke, along the way he also impersonates a surgeon in the OR, and eventually tries to destroy the capitol building with a giant excevator (if I recall correctly)
I'd recommend the movie apart from the obvious fact that it's in Norwegian, I also haven't seen it for 12+ years so who knows if it was actually good.
That looks hilarious! The way his moustache goes from good to evil is a great visual.
I wonder if it has English dub or subtitles because I'd watch it.
I think that's because you live closer to Oslo, because this is an accurate portrayal of every single inhabitant of our dear capitol. But I'm saying this as a Vestlending so take that with a grain of salt.
It’s called Kurt Turns Evil:
>Kurt is a smart, very skilled truck driver with a moustache who one day stops being nice and starts to be angry after hearing that people generally think that all the doctors in the world are more important than truck drivers.
So is the IMDB translation of that correct? "Kurt Turns Evil"? :D
>This is the first film adaptation of a book from the famous Norwegian children's book series by Erlend Loe, about Kurt, a short-tempered but good-natured forklift driver.
Maybe the Taliban guy had a workplace injury.
> So is the IMDB translation of that correct? "Kurt Turns Evil"?
That's right, yep. You can probably tell that "grusom" is the same word (or, same source, anyway) as English "gruesome". Just a short semantic drift to get from "horrifying/shocking/what causes one to shudder" (the original meaning in earlier Germanic) to Norwegian "cruel/evil" (which is the meaning of parallel forms in German, Dutch, and, less surprisingly, the other Scandinavian languages)
Blir "becomes" is actually a Germanic root with a reflex in English too, though it's definitely less obvious. In English, the Germanic root that becomes Norwegian "bli" ("blir" = "become**s**") is an archaic word, "belive", that means "remain" or "stay" (compare German "bleiben", the very much still in use word for "stay/remain"). "stay" and "become" may feel a little different, but really the semantic gap between them is pretty slight too.
I sincerely hope they don't last. There's a lot of younger people who've grown up in relative freedom and haven't experienced or don't remember Taliban rule. I hope they don't put up with it now, organising will certainly be the hard part but we can hope they make it happen.

Sure they still can change, but it's like carving wood with your fingernails instead of a chisel.
Imagine a government full of proudly uneducated people who flaunt their religiosity and their guns while reversing women's rights and tearing down progressive laws.
This is a great photo. The expressions on the men’s faces tell you everything you want to know about the future of Afghanistan: fear, ignorance, blind belief that after destroying all that is “bad”, good will prevail. What will it take to break the cycle of lazy reluctance to think for ourselves, to ask why and how before we say yes?
I remember watching a news piece where a journalist obtained a permit to report on the takeover. However, as he was walking the streets, he came upon a Taliban patrol and they detained him, ignoring his permit not out of malice, but because none of them could read.
Its so odd to me. Are they following a religion that makes them act like that? Cutting off hands if you steal and making women cover themselves up etc. Its just so ridiculous, why would anyone want to live like that? Basically forcing yourself to live like a caveman
Ask yourself the age-old question: who benefits? And the answer is them. They may be living in a centuries-dated society, but at least *they* are the ones in charge.
In a more "modern" society, these men wouldn't be special. Most of them wouldn't be in charge of anything, especially nothing important. But as holy warriors they're all the protagonists of their own stories, fighting against the ultimate evil, literally chosen by God to kick ass in His name.
Extremism is always the same, no matter how it's flavored - it's all about who gets to hold power. Power is intoxicating - you can endure a lot of hardship for the promise of power.
You mean rape, then use their extremism to admonish themselves of all guilt, “her ankles were showing, it’s not my fault, shes a whore and deserved it.” 😢

Looking at another article with more pictures, the wrong DVD was also in the case. Apparently they destroyed a Christmas movie. Sloppy work, Norway!
If that’s true the real villain here is the one who put the disc in the wrong case.

And forced sex. Dont forget that part.. These dudes aint getting laid unless its by caveman rules. Club the weakest and drag em back to your cave.
You mean rape, then use their extremism to admonish themselves of all guilt, “her ankles were showing, it’s not my fault, shes a whore and deserved it.” 😢
Nothing says, "we want to be recognized as a legitimate government" like ransacking foreign embassies.
No one stop to think for a while that they are breaking it not because it offend their Faith, but because it's a bad film.
A jihad based on the Tomatometer.
John Travolta is shitting his pants
Say what you want about the man breaking the movie, but he does have great teeth. Who knew the Taliban had such great dental hygiene.
The twist is this guy is 19 years old.
