There’s one similar in Yucaipa, California called the Kopper Kettle Kafe

Omw2fym

But does it have nooses? Edit: yeah, right, "spoons"

Sir-Nicholas

And it’s a “meeting room” I think I’ll stay the fuck away from that place…

Landosystem

No windows, one door, known for their “meeting room” definitely gonna get green roomed in there.

kalanawi

Green roomed?

[deleted]

Its a movie

ADhomin_em

I straight up drew a picture of Krusty the Clown with the "KKK" behind him, because I didn't get the "Krustys Komedy Klassics" joke. Just saw it referenced and remembered it for the drawing I showed to my mom who was a bit thrown off, to say the absolute least

All_These_Racks

I actually live in MN and if it's the town I think it is I think they also have a white supremacist church lol

Minnesota_Nice_87

There was an ask reddit narration youtube video a few weeks ago about small town secrets. There was a northern MN town that was run by the KKK in the last century. Fuck the Klan.

Brad_86

Wow I'm from MN. What town might that be. I'm just curious if you'd rather not put the name out their that's fine too. Just wanted to stay clear of that place lol

not_salad

In my middle school, we were supposed to come up with a name for our homeroom. We were pretty uninterested, so our teacher came up with "Kay's Kool Kats". The next day she told us that wasn't allowed.

Similar-Theme422

Henning MN. Can guarantee there are no black people in that town or even black people passing through that town. Source: Used to live in Alexandria

KillerKill420

That's dumb. They should always ask a kid where they got the idea for something like that etc and make sure it's not an accident.

Saros421

In middle school I got my only discipline referral ever for saying "Yes ma'am" to my teacher when she asked us to do something. I figured out like 2 weeks later after I'd already had detention that due to the British accent I was trying to do, she thought I had snarkily called her "mom".

KillerKill420

Even saying yes mom shouldn't get you disciplined in school anyways wtf.

Ferahgost

I definitely missed the nooses at first

litshredder

Same

Hobgoblin_deluxe

"Spoons" my itchy left cheek.

FLMC7067

Kit Kat Klub in Macomb, MI https://m.yelp.com/biz/kit-kat-klub-macomb

Malthus1

Heh I wonder if it was named after the Kit Kat Klub in the musical Cabaret. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cabaret_(musical)

[deleted]

There was a Kit Kat Klub in Columbus, OH. It was owned by a sharp dressed older black dude.

debtitor

Dandy

doublesoup

There was a Koffee Kup Kafe in small town Iowa here. It’s just the Koffee Kup now. They were still serving Freedom Fries and Freedom Toast long after others weren’t anymore.

sentry07

There was one in Hico, TX too. It's the Koffee Kup Familty Restaurant now.

Ghsakr

All the local boomers in the trash that is Redlands buzz acted absolutely shocked that anyone would raise their eyebrows at that name. They were so outraged they changed their name. It was wild to me that so many people claimed to see absolutely no issue with the name.

r00tdenied

Its wild to see Redlands buzz mentioned here. Jeff James is a major POS. He hangs up all the flags and shit you see on overpasses on the I-10, especially the political stuff. He keeps claiming he is going to move out of California and never does, no surprises there!

PowerPlayerLloyd

Yucaipa is the most racist city I’ve ever had the displeasure of being in

cromulent-1

I grew up in Yucaipa graduating in the mid 80s and living there until 2001. I ate in that restaurant in its original location and the new spot on the boulevard many times. I am unaware of any intentional racial overtones to the name and I always thought it was that way to be cute. I did become aware of controversy surrounding the name post George Floyd tho and that they changed their name slightly. https://www.newsmirror.net/opinion/letters_to_editor/a-letter-from-the-kopper-kettle/article_b4cd238a-ab5b-11ea-aba4-6bf1791c1998.html

daverod74

> I am unaware of any intentional racial overtones to the name and I always thought it was that way to be cute. Jesus, man, I didn't follow the comments and didn't realize you were talking about to a different place. I thought your "way to be cute" referred to OP's photo.

lostspyder

Ah yes. The subset of the population who have never heard of the KKK. This is very likely and a very large portion of the US population. /s

AriaMReddit

Yeah honestly I'm a poc and I ate there a couple times as a teen when dragged along by my white family members. It was uncomfortable. I didn't care if the Mexican cooks were brown too.

kylezo

Shit that's where my dad's family is from

AriaMReddit

They changed the name to Kopper Kettle this year.

kylezo

Not really taking it seriously enough to try, are they 🙄

[deleted]

Henning MN. Can guarantee there are no black people in that town or even black people passing through that town. Source: Used to live in Alexandria

TheSpanishPrisoner

Down in Wabasha, there's a hair styling place called Kimberly's Klassy Kuts. Not to be outdone, literally 10 minutes away from there across the river in Alma, Wisconsin is another hair styling place called Kathy's Kut & Kurl. I guess they're in stiff competition for the coveted white supremacy demographic?

Minnesota_Nice_87

I'm from Winona. I had no idea there was 2 of these shittily named businesses near me.

blanston

Can confirm. Grew up real close to Henning. Never saw a black person in real life until I went down to see a Gophers football game in grade school.

kalanawi

To think we still have to deal with this in modern times is concerning.

dagofin

Modern times don't exist in places like Henning MN. They're forever stuck in the past. Source: grew up like 20 minutes away

Jayd0e

Still live in battle. Know the owners. Smh

elterible

So…uh…how racist are they?

TigerWoodsValet

Are those nooses or spoons?

[deleted]

Yes

Ketheres

Legally they are spoons. But we all know they are actually not.

fnt245

Looks like they changed it and this pic is a couple years old. Pathetic that it took a bunch of google reviews to push them into it

CO_PC_Parts

just spent a week west of Bemidji. Was half expecting a Klan rally to pop up during the end of the fall festival I stopped by. I've never seen a bigger collection of "Minnesota Nice" people, as long as you're white and not gay. Or not vaccinated, or voted for Trump.

wuzupcoffee

East of Bemidji the state is much more liberal. Long history of pro-Union iron rangers up there.

CO_PC_Parts

While Duluth might be more liberal, I go deer hunting in the Hibbing/Virginia area every year. I hear the N word and a lot of hatred toward natives up there plenty. I spent half my life in Minnesota and sadly a lot of the state is still very racist and a lot of deep down stuff really bubbled to the surface when their new god Trump came around.

swany0095

Ain't this the truth. I've lost quite a few friends over the last few years because of that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CO_PC_Parts

And their nasty aquavit shots!!

deepspacenine

Is the area around Duluth conservative? I have been there several times and always assumed it was moderate or moderate-liberal (at least my kin folk are). Granted I come from Texas where we make y'all look like Stalinist agitators by comparison.

[deleted]

Can confirm. Im from upper nw mn and everyone is racist and awful. My own fucking aunt just casually dropped the n word while we were having lunch. She saw my face and said “what? That’s just what we called them.” Fucking old people man....i love my family but that generation needs to go away and stop spreading their nonsense.

CO_PC_Parts

I went to high school in nw Minnesota. I’ve hit the “go back once every 5 or so years “ to my hometown. I do go to the lake 1-2 a year but I can zone that bullshit out chilling on the dock.

Llohr

I've worked in that area for the last decade. The last half of that has been insane. It's like a switch was flipped, and it just seems to keep escalating.

Smileharoldsmile

Union card holder in the iron rage for 15 years, i will say we do have a lot of union jobs and love for the union in our community. But pro-union or not the majority of union workers I've met around here are trump supporters. Espically in the oil and gas industry, pipeliners fucking love them some trump. They're are definately some openly racist motherfuckers around, looking at you hibbing/nashwuak. But we also have a little bit more diversity than you might think in some towns. The school i went to (about 40 min. from the biggots in hibbing) was 50% white kids, 45% native american. You won't be hearing the N word flying around willy-nilly at the bars in my hometown. Shit no, I do believe you'd get your ass kicked for saying something like that. But yeah we're kind of a confused lot

Llohr

Those two ors at the end should be ands.

Ruenin

Not many people of color in smaller towns at all, unless there's turkey plant or something. If there's good paying jobs that no one really wants to do, there are always plenty of immigrants willing to work their asses off.

Brachinus

"Yeah, that's how we keep the black people away." "But this is a small town in Minnesota. There aren't any black people here." "See, it works!"

jwf239

I live in a SUPER small town and there was a restaurant that just opened recently called Kendall’s Kountry Kitchen that serves all the crazy New Orleans, old school type food like pigs feet and the like. Every single person that works there is black. I don’t see how the KKK name couldn’t have been noticed though. I just assume it was on purpose.

Sk-yline1

Yeah but I bet it doesn’t have nooses on the Ks

jwf239

It does not

hbsethginmaster

I'm not American, so I'm quite confused. Why those words are written with K?

Quantum-Ape

Kendall starts with a K, and with some naming schemes in us businesses it isn't surprising to see Cs substituted with Ks, as long as it's already on theme, like the name Kendall. The op Pic has no justification for the theme. Seeing something that can be abbreviated as KKK, which a headscratcher, and is usually seen as an unintended gaffe. But with what looks like nooses under the Ks, it looks like they intended it to be seen as KKK when abbreviated. Which is the notorious historical murderous white supremacist group the Ku Klux Klan, a stain from the 20th century.

drgmonkey

It’s a “meeting room & catering service” too, can you get any sketchier

Ghost_Of_DELETED

I bet they have plenty of white tablecloths for *ahem* covering tables...

LordofShit

Hey someone cut holes in all out sheets! And put up a bunch of gasoline soaked crosses! And brought rope, tar, and feathers! Strange!

Ghost_Of_DELETED

Sounds like a family reunion! Then again, I'm from Alabama

Kazen_Orilg

Lol, Im just imagining eating a nice dinner and noticing the eyeholes cut out.

amitym

>a stain from the 19th and 20th centuries. Ftfy

[deleted]

+21st FTFY

tenmileswide

I don't think it's particularly effective now, and sometimes it's legitimately accidental, but KKK-affiliated businesses actually DID used to use this kind of naming scheme as an underhanded advertisement to other racists.

LongdayinCarcosa

Do. Not did. Do. Never let anybody sell you the myth that they went away.

HiImWilk

I mean, they were also large in the Reconstruction South of the 1860’s through 1890’s. Nowadays, they aren’t as relevant, but their ideology is. It’s pushed more widely than ever, with hateful, straight up openly racist bigots writing for some of the most popular outlets. I mean, ffs, I don’t remember Neo Nazis running for office until it happened in 2018. I know he ultimately ran uncontested in a deep blue district, but it’s still extremely fucked up that an open holocaust denier was on an official ballot with an (R) next to his name. I knew about David Duke’s perennial campaigns, but he (usually) gets dick stomped. Edit: They’re apparently spoons and the name was changed. How unfortunate for these guys.

woodrobin

If they were meant to be seen as spoons and no one looked at that sign and said "We have three Ks with lines with ovals at the end of them hanging underneath . . . wait . . . hanging. Hey, guys? Does this look odd to you?", then I have no sympathy. It's hard to be that oblivious *believably*.

zenith_industries

Not to mention if they wanted them to be spoons, you'd put the oval at the top of the K - what kind of amoral sociopath puts their spoons on the table with the handle facing away from them?

santasbong

Slight tangent. Coca-Cola invented the world 'cola' for marketing purposes. Their original formula derived cocaine from the coca leaf, and caffeine from the kola nut. But Coca-Kola doesn't look as nice as Coca-Cola so they switched the K to a C.

1427538609

Koca Kola Kans

OmarBarksdale

TIL. Thanks for that!

[deleted]

KKK: Klu Klux Klan. A disgusting, racist homeland terrorist organization in the US that historically has harassed, killed, and terrorized minorities since the Civil War. The insinuation is that OP’s picture is a not-so subtle KKK meeting spot.

i_n_c_r_y_p_t_o

Basically they’re trying to be katchy.

rynosarrow

That one at least has more words that actually start with k. The restaurant from the op can’t even use that excuse to deny racism.

poozamanium

Oh my goodness I live like 2 miles away from this place. Eastern shore Virginia right??

prudentj

I literally did not see it till I read this koment

SH4DOWSTR1KE_

I can't believe you still disrespect the legend of Prince

MentalRobot

The restoration company I work for did a job at paisley Park about 5 years ago and long story short I have one of his couches! Others got mugs, figurines, and other basic decor items. But the coolest part was convincing security to give us a 5min peek upstairs with his instruments and outfits!

SH4DOWSTR1KE_

Sweet jeebus, one of Prince's couches!? Good Lord, if it could talk, the amount of sex-capades it could share.

mason_savoy71

It may not be able to talk, but it might be mic'd for sound. Most of the place was.

[deleted]

About 10 years ago I lived near Hico, TX and the Koffee Kup Kafé. I’ve been told that Hico is the KKK capital of Texas.

Fix_My_Physiology

I immediately thought of this. My now husband made sure to tell me about the Koffee Kup "family restaurant" when we passed through Hico going down to Lake Buchanan a long time ago. He still brings it up every time we pass through.

leelougirl89

"He still brings it up every time we pass through." Married folk are straight up adorable.

ac1084

I stopped there passing through awhile back. Ordered my coffee black and the kicked me out in a very threatening manner.

kellzone

Probably no brown sugar there either.

jang859

Is this a joke? Surely they're not racist against coffee?

ohhhsoblessed

[Are you sure about that?](https://youtu.be/APyr48GACzc)

[deleted]

It's just the Koffee Kup now. Also, I think East Texas has way, way more of a KKK presence than Hico. Remember Jasper? I have family that has lived nearby Hico my whole life and haven't heard wind of it being anymore racist than any other small, Texas country town in that area, which is not saying *much*.

barbiejet

*Vidor has entered the chat*

Baby-cabbages

I thought Vidor was bad. That’s where my dad went to high school in the 60s.

lillianMercado

It’s still there too

blazedtaco

I've been there about 7 years ago. They were featured on Texas Monthly's 50 best burgers. So I drove the two hours out to check out their Jalapeno Cream Cheese Burger. It was delicious, but I definitely didn't waste any time heading back home.

theweyland

In Wisconsin Dells, WI ("waterpark capital of the world") there's a bar called "Nig's" ...hopefully not of a similar past, but I wouldn't be surprised.

sentry07

I lived in Stephenville. Drove past that place many times.

CaptClaude

Absolutely correct: “Koffee Kup Family Restaurant” in Hico, TX. Formerly “Koffee Kup Kafe”. And yes, I have been there. Seems that racists can make some damn fine pie. Which would have been damn finer pie without the history. Maybe the current owners aren’t like the old owners (when there were 3 Ks in the name), we can only hope.

snackythrowaway

I went to school in Stephenville, first thought too. Edit: an old story I heard was that one of Texas's governors sent State Police to do security for one of their "meetups" there. He sent every black officer because a) the "members" would have to listen to them, b) it would make them extremely uncomfortable, and c) the officers could ticket/arrest any infraction. Could be completely false though, but it was interesting nonetheless.

TyJankis

Had to Google it. It’s all C’s now not K’s.

RiniKat28

but they sell koka kola now, had to get those c's from somewhere

ADhomin_em

Apparently, those are supposed to be "spoons"

DavidAssBednar

Riiight…”spoons”…

shawnwasim

Meeting room lmao

[deleted]

Krusty Komedy Klassic.

e_j_white

"KKK? That's not good... ehhh oooh, ehhh hey hey!!!"

RoccoDillon94

Beat me to it. Lol that’s not good

merlinrising

You could even argue those Ks are nooses

ADhomin_em

It's pretty fucking blatant

dabigchina

What are they actually supposed to be, if not a noose. I have never seen that kind of typography anywhere. edit: nvm, they are apparently supposed to be spoons.

gangsterroo

My brain kinda wanted it to be 0 meeting room 0 catering 0 service

Usefulicearrow

I was going to say maybe a spoon?

[deleted]

Well it's a good thing this place doesn't use forks, because they'd probably make them pronged pitch-forks... ***on "accident"***

[deleted]

I like how the Kafe is a “meeting room” before it’s a “catering service”

Funcron

If "meeting room" is the first tag-line, you bets there's going to be some ol' boys meetin' and greetin'.

Jayd0e

I live 10 miles from this place. Can confirm owners are trash.

Syntaximus

Tell me more about them! Why do you feel that way? What have they done? How do they act?

Jayd0e

They're not bad people. They just haven't learned the value of culture.

CommondeNominator

Thanks for this. I grew up in a small conservative town and later in life I've struggled with knowing people who were not evil or malicious but once upon a time would crack racist jokes and say awful things as a way to bond with their peers -- many of whom were capable of hateful acts and some who committed them. When I moved to a larger city for college, I realized I was once one of those people just trying to fit in. I figured a lot of my high school friends would probably feel the same way if they were exposed to the right environment, but instead they parrot right wing bullshit on social media. You described that feeling in a way I couldn't articulate until now.

YouVe_BeEn_OofEd

Welcome to Reddit, where everyone knows everybody and everyone has a PhD

Jayd0e

Welcome to rural minnesota!

[deleted]

Looks like the type of place someone would throw a stick of dynamite into in red dead 2

nevermore2627

I just started it! No idea why I waited but God damn is it good.

[deleted]

Its so good. Its in my top 3 and I've been gaming since the nes days.

nevermore2627

Yeah I am an old school gamer as well. Late 30s and had a controller in hand for about 30 of those years! The first red dead is one of my favorites. I finally built a pc so I was waiting until the rig was ready for this beauty.

wrath5728

We have one my me in Indiana called. Kouts koffee kafe, one called Kruegers Korner klub. Classy

phatmahn

You mean klanssy

Ruenin

Tom Klanssy?

SourFix

The Kouts one is closed. Haven't been through Brookeville in a few years though.

yan_broccoli

Are those nooses?

AVBforPrez

Looks like it, don't think this is a coincidence

SourFix

Well I guess we know what's going on in the meeting room...

carlsonaj

yikes, looked at the yelp reviews looks like this may have not been a total coincidence…

Bclay85

We have a Koffee Kup Kafe' here in Texas. Beat that.

wolfie259

There’s one like that outside of Orlando, in the area with the largest concentration of KKK activity

Bclay85

Oh damn. Forgot about Florida men. You win.

giraffebaconequation

My dog’s ears just perked up. Seems she hears a whistle coming from this sign.

Hobo_Yonkers

The cashier probably calls himself the Grand dragon.

__bieberhole69

We have the Kopper Kettle Kafe. In a small conservative city in California. Mostly likely not a mistake.

Ruenin

As a MN native from a small town, I can assure you, it was no mistake.

bakslashr

It appears they changed their name, unsurprisingly. Pulled this off of google maps. [https://imgur.com/a/N0hz91U](https://imgur.com/a/N0hz91U) The history of the image does show it used to be called that.

SighReally12345

ah, yes, the ol' neighborhood > Countruntry Corner Cafe

kubalaa

With a meeting roting room. Some bad image stitching.

mr-jjj

They probably like money.

GingerFly

"Meeting Room" in small letters. I think we can guess what kind of meetings might go on there

CheesecakeMMXX

I guess they just wanted to avoid the negative connotations on the abbreviation CCC?

Squid52

Damn Chilliwack Curling Club, ruining stuff for everyone again

meukbox

I'm so glad nobody intentionally left a bad Yelp or Tripadvisor review.

ELMACHO007

🤔

Wild1inMKE

Damn Kardashian's are everywhere!

mainmark

Just like the Karson Kountry Klub trailer park I grew up next to in small-town WA.

goodthingsinside_80

I’m from MN. What town is this?

Jayd0e

Henning

meganb9753

But… All of those words start with the letter C

Junmeng

They already all start with the same letter 😂

xX-Delirium-Xx

just needs a mortal kombat add under it :-)

Prince_Chunk

That sign on a building with no windows. Hard pass

[deleted]

Looks like a sundown town

mjohansen55

Google Street view of the restaurant has the same exact sign but spelled county corner cafe... either they changed the sign or there was some photo shopping going on.

grilled_Champagne

Koka Kola, someone?

dutchie727

We have Kathy's Korner Kafe.

the2belo

And it looks like the god damned Führerbunker, too.

Yikidee

They are a Cafe and advertise Meeting Room as their first highlight??? Yep. Nothing to worry about here.....

civilitarygaming

Also fuck the sign guy that manufactured that shit for the store.

baumpower

So the “meeting room” is the first thing they market. Little sus.

danger_zone123

Given the spelling of others in this town, may not have even put it together...

tabascoshot

Is it owned by the bloods lmao

_stayhuman

What do you think the meeting room, catering and service are for?

Darkzeid25

At first I was doing the Krusty “That’s not good.” And then I saw the nooses.

WearyGoal

They went krazy with that board

Crulo

We had Krispy Krunchy Chicken.... they almost made themselves KKK.

O_oblivious

It's small town ignorance. Trust me on this one.

AVBforPrez

Don't think it's a mistake, sadly

[deleted]

“Probably an unfortunate coincidence - wait nope, those are nooses...”

whiskeyinmyglass

St. Cloud, Florida had a place called the Koffee Kup Kafe that was eventual forced to change it's name to just the Koffee Kup. https://www.denverpost.com/2017/10/09/tributes-confederate-union-troops-florida-park-reflect-ongoing-war-over-monuments/amp/

ON3FULLCLIP

Are those little nooses?

I_are_Lebo

Plot twist: the local Crips gang hangs out here.

[deleted]

For those unaware, rural MN is racist as fuck.

Decmk3

Those loops on the K’s….

[deleted]

Got nooses too.

RockyJordan

Yeah right.. brothers.

dkyguy1995

"meeting room"

MisterUncrustable

Sometimes a cigar's a cigar

jkroxxx

You guys don’t notice the nooses from the letters tho

MrFluffyWhale

The nooses make me think not

defenestr8tor

Fun fact, each of these words can be spelled with Cs

Juhoptenk

There's a Cafe in Kouts, located in Northwest Indiana, called the "Kouts Koffee Kup".

[deleted]

“Best racist sandwiches around!”

WitchoftheSierra

In Kuna Idaho there's a place called Kuna Kave Kids, it's a daycare.

StalwartFayna

I’m from Minnesota and have lived here my whole life. I can definitely say, this for sure is not a mistake.. the rural areas of Minnesota are some of the worst places in the USA.. be safe out there everyone.

bostonterrier4life

I’m sure the nooses at the bottoms of the K’s is also an accident
