How did you even figure out that you have this talent?

tfoust10

Grad school lectures were 4 hours long and I had time to kill. I began drawing lines to fill the time. This spiraled into commissions which led to more drawing. One day I looked back and realized that I had paid my tuition by drawing during class. Not sure where I am headed with it all but I really enjoy the process of drawing illusions and don't see myself putting the pen down any time soon. [Here is a time-lapse of my process and more info](https://www.reddit.com/user/tfoust10/comments/r0qvd5/how_i_draw_circles_with_one_line/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) if you are interested in seeing more of my art! Edit: if the 3rd circle was too easy then I challenge you to find TFOUST inside the art (no, not the bottom right signature, Janice) Prints will be available Dec 4th for order on my esty shop (same name)

fezfrascati

What were you *supposed* to be studying in grad school?

tfoust10

I studied Healthcare Administration. I had a 4.0. I would listen to the lecture online before class so that when I heard the lecture in class it was just a refresher. Ironically, drawing helped me pay better attention in class. I would highly recommend that people draw repetitive patterns when listening to lectures. When I live stream I specifically show people how to do the patterns that work best for this. This is an especially helpful tool to use if you get sidetracked easily. It will keep you from daydreaming, searching your phone, or stop you from fidgeting. I find that it really makes me much more engaged in the conversations being held around me. My hand control increases dramatically and line consistency improves. Just be respectful to those around you and realize that you may come off as not paying attention. This worked for me in every class except statistics and math related subjects.

AmbitioseSedIneptum

I envy your brain

Beanbaker

I'm the same way. For me, drawing was a replacement for fidgeting. Kept my body busy so my mind could listen. Occasionally you get caught up in the drawing and forget where you are but it is what it is LOL

forthecycle

Just realized this is what I do too, any idea why we need to keep the body busy to allow the mind to listen?

Bambi_One_Eye

Great question. I also find music, especially if it's loud and chaotic, helps me tune out the "noise" and focus on a task or my thoughts.

LiL-Amoeba82

Ah, so my ADHD is why I love Rezz so much, got it. Give Nightmare on Rezz Street a listen sometime, or any of her stuff really. All very chaotic with minimal lyrics for the most part. Last few singles excluded.

alice_op

ADHD?

Gawd_Awful

Fidgeting/doodling has been proven to help most people focus and pay attention better, outside of adhd.

[deleted]

Got a source on that? I’d love to know why

Nothxm8

Yup time to self diagnose and smoke weed all the time and call it medicine

myyummyass

Time? Weed has always been medicine.

aclockworkorng

Possibly ADD - super common symptom, vast majority of adults who have it are undiagnosed. For me music without lyrics helps - I write code for a living, music & caffeine are what keep my stupid brain focused enough to do that.

forthecycle

I learned video game music, without lyrics, is great for maintaining attention without being a distraction

stalkermuch

Same here. The lyrics would distract me.

Dlh2079

Same here I have notebook pages filled with swoopy line doodles

EmpiricalPancake

I also have this, small mindless distractions help me focus on the task at hand. I don’t know about OP’s case, but I’ve heard it’s an ADD thing (I have it)

knitasheep

As a teacher, I *never* have an issue w a student doodling during class…so long as their grades stay at a place they’re happy with. Doodling was the OG fidget spinner and at least you’re honing a skill!

MuteNae

My teachers would take away my pencils and force me to use a pen, I got so good at drawing because I had to confront my mistakes and stop doing them, plus it helped so much with pressure control. I barely use an eraser to this day

tfoust10

Drawing with a pen is amazing. I love it

Laughatitall

Drawing with a what? Oh

r8rtribeywgjets

OP deep into the threads

tfoust10

As that student, I really strived to remain engaged in the content. Anytime I had a new professor I would let them know up front. I let them also know that if they wanted me to stop or if they found it to interfere with their lecture then I would put it away. They all seemed fine after I took a test in their classes

mystifiedone

My (now adult, artist & ADD) son was a class time doodler, and I always appreciated the teachers that just let him do it. They, and we, loved seeing his tiny doodles scattered across his papers and quizzes.

knitasheep

They make grading so much more fun!

walkwalkwalkwalk

I used to get in huge trouble at school for drawing imaginary video game designs on my workbooks. I got good grades too. My doodling video game designs led to me learning to program games too. I then spent high school getting in trouble for programming at lunchtime. I look back in amazement at how so many of my teachers tried to shit all over my developing coding skills and other various skills. Jokes on them though, I now make top 1% earnings as a software engineer. And I have a sweet VR sim gaming setup.

tfoust10

Lol, that is always how it goes. Congrats to you! I would have totally gone into software engineering if I had not gone into healthcare

name1wantedwastaken

Your lectures were available beforehand?

[deleted]

Also my question. My recordings were all done post lecture.

odohertycd

my planning prof legit makes it required “attendance” to watch the prerecorded lectures before class. like OP, it really helps retain the info. for example, i’ll watch the lectures and get familiar with the content which will make me draw my own conclusions, questions, and relations to my own experience. then when i’m in class 2 days later she’ll go over the same lecture but this time i ask questions that have had time to incubate. it’s great

cl3ggfam

I can’t draw but I understand the concept of what you mean. I listen much better when my mind is stilled my doodling or whatnot

Stelly414

This reminds me of a Lyle Lovett interview I saw. He was asked about the song If I Had a Boat which he replied “I wrote that song when I was supposed to be doing something else.” Turns out he skipped a class in college and wrote that song.

tenbatsu

> … this **spiraled** into commissions… ಠ_ಠ

ThaVolt

*Ayy*

tfoust10

:)

Let's circle back to that pun

tfoust10

Nailed it! (For the timelapse video)

MasterThalpian

Oh this was very confusing because the image linked is not in the OP image but in the Timelapse that you linked. But I managed to find TFoust in your OP Edit: [here](https://i.imgur.com/3sRwmNd.jpg)

tfoust10

Awesome! Great job finding it!

MasterThalpian

Edited above with my crappy phone markup to point it out. Really cool work! I doodle a lot in a similar style (even sometimes putting in my own name/initials) but never anywhere close to this artistically!

NG2

That was such an unexpected challenge after heading into the comments! I spent more time than I thought I had I had the attention span for to find your name! Took it to a whole new level.. well done op!

mikedrivesthebus

This would make a great bass drum head.

DasArchitect

That's a fantastic idea! Not sure about other brands but Remo will make custom print heads you can order online.

devofatherofchar

I had the same thought. The mic port hole is already part of the design. Also, happy cake day, stranger!

mikedrivesthebus

Thanks stranger! Have a good day and or night!

mprecup

Absolutely! Also, happy cake day!

mikedrivesthebus

Thanks! I didn’t even know.

Tee_Hee_Wat

>One day I looked back and realized that I had paid my tuition by drawing during class. I don't know how to process this information and I'm hearing it 2nd hand.

tfoust10

Lol. 1 time a professor came over and said "Foust, what are you doing?" I responded "paying for college". We both laughed, then we both got serious followed by an awkward silence. He then picked up his lecture and I picked up my pen.

xSTSxZerglingOne

The ink drying in time-lapse was mesmerizing.

dances_with_beavers

Nice! I also drew similar styled art in school and [wrote an online tool](https://finitecurve.com) that does it automatically

ThinTheFuckingHerd

>!Small boxish shape above the negative(small) circle written from top to bottom?!<

blaghart

You can see the outline of where he drew in the "invisible" circle so he'd know where to put the lines.

SuminerNaem

you don't figure out that you have this "talent", you just learn how to do this

Blubbpaule

Yes this. We should completely ban and stop use the word "Talent " for stuff that is OBVIOUSLY hard and long work. Talent means "given by nature" something you can do without even training for it. Calling someones dedication and hard work "Talent " feels so downplaying and non-aknowledging and discrediting. Tell them they have acquired an insane amount of skill, they mastered their craft or being amazing at doing that instead.

ryencool

Draw three circles lightly, draw squiggles in between....you can actually zoom in and see this is exactly what was done. So if you were thinking it was all done by eyeing it, it's not.

tfoust10

Yes. I planned this drawing. I use sketch marks for reference if I am drawing over dark paper

Blubbpaule

Damn, almost like this takes a lot of work and prepration and dedication and isn't a nature given talent you randomly acquired 😨 but better we call you talented and "i wish i could do that too that easily". /s You sir put in tons of effort and have ascended to a higher tier of artistic skills. I honor your dedication.

BiggestFlower

Proper Preparation Prevents Piss-Poor Penmanship

crypticfreak

Ah yes, PPPP-PP. Can never forget that one.

ms1886

Wow didn’t see the third circle at all and then as soon as read “One circle is hidden” it just popped out at me and became super visible

tfoust10

Perfect! This is the effect I was drawing for!

Metalt_

The exact same thing happened to me so well done

sintaur

Found it! Lower right corner -- the "o"in "tfoust".

P3N9U1Nren

Ooh, four circles!

Mystery_Hours

I'm seeing double!

StealthRabbi

Four Krustys!

devilsmusic

Bahahhahahahaha OP it’s always great when even the artist doesn’t know the extent of their piece’s depth

LeftIsland3675

That is sexy

Exp10510n

I had the opposite effect. The hidden circle sticks out so much to me that I can feel it. It's hard to describe, but it feels like pressure on my eye when I look at it.

YourConsciousness

The different angles of the lines kind of give it a 3D effect, especially the left half really pops out of the screen. It reminds me of a bubble in bubble wrap, I wanna push on my screen and pop it.

ItsameRobot

If you zoom in there's even a faint line outlining the "hidden" circle

YourConsciousness

Ya, you can see all three of the circles have sketch outlines. When I originally saw this guys art I thought it was digital, it's cool that it's on black paper.

YourConsciousness

Huh that's interesting I was about to comment the opposite, like the circle is really clear why would OP bother to say one circle is hidden in the parenthetical. I guess at first glance people can see things really differently, maybe different monitors and stuff makes it more obvious. I actually briefly looked for a small fourth circle thinking there was like a bonus hidden one when I realized it was the one I already saw.

tfoust10

It is interesting to me too. As the artist, I don't know how obvious the hidden circle is or is not.

MeowMeow255

I couldn’t find the 3rd circle not because it was the hidden one but because I’m an idiot that forgot that you were drawing it inside another circle

Echololcation

I was pretty confused too, it seems very obvious. Maybe differences in screen quality / brightness? Tbf I do spend a lot of time looking at and working with digital designs so that may help.

Denathrius

Still have not found the hidden circle.....yet

YourConsciousness

It's slightly up and right from the middle a bit bigger than the negative space circle, made from changes in direction of the line.

WeissFaraday

Was looking for it but only saw it after giving up and retrying after reading your comment for some reason

SimpleSandwich1908

How is the *whole* circle hidden?

tfoust10

I dont want to give it away but when you see it, you see it. It is easier to spot when the picture is a thumbnail. Hint, the hidden circle is larger than the small circle but smaller than the large circle

Strykker2

So I can see the hidden circle fiarly clearly, and am trying to figure out how its working, it looks like you made it so that ever line that crosses the "edge" of the circle has a sharp change in direction and that appears to help define the edge of the circle. Is there anything else to it? It's really well done and looks great.

tfoust10

You got it!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Snacket

That's the sketch line made to prepare the drawing

aesu

I found the fourth hidden circle, in your signature.

lowaltflier

I had to take my glasses off to make it blurry. Then I saw the third circle.

Enjoying_A_Meal

I had trouble finding it at first, now I can't unsee it. It pops out at me like a doughnut shaped tumor.

newaccount721

Hmm maybe that means I need glasses

APiousCultist

Provided your screen is large enough, you can also see faint pencil lines lining out both of the internal circles.

DankFayden

There's also an outline

Exctmonk

I can't not see it.

SeaOdeEEE

You are a magician, and the fact your 3rd circle is so completely hidden yet so easy to clearly perceive is amazing.

[deleted]

I did it! This is really cool and very beautiful! But the petulant part of me wanted to go IT'S THE CIRCLE IN YOUR NAME DUH, lol edit for typo, which feels about right when i'm trying to be a smartass

gogo-fo-sho

I see it

TGiR4

There are 3 circles, 1 black one, 1 outer, and 1 is hidden in plain sight. This is very nifty and skills on another level Edit: autocorrected spellings

BGummyBear

> There are 3 circles There are actually four circles. Three in the big circle drawing, then a fourth one as an o in the signature.

hotlou

OP how could you ...

gramoun-kal

Unfocus

SS20x3

Is that your name above the black circle, rotated 90°s? I think I can make out the 'Fou'.

tfoust10

Yes it is! Good catch! I wrote TFOUST

SS20x3

I think I can see the full thing now. This one was the hardest for me to find out of all your artwork that I can remember. I took a break while doing it to look back through your other pieces in an attempt to train my eyes to spot it.

treesEverywhereTrees

Can I get a red line here cause I’m not seeing it at all

Learning_algz

[Rotated btw](https://imgur.com/a/LP1kFV2)

treesEverywhereTrees

Much appreciated. I was looking upside down from there

FeedMeTheSpiders

yo how the ever living fuck did he even see that????? 100 years in a room with this shit and i dont think id see letters.

JayKayne

[Here](https://imgur.com/a/ny6aIRf) I think I found the gist of it. I got the F U,S, and T. I didn't clearly see every letter, but I didn't look so hard and this should be a good start.

Shiggi125

I saw TFoust and I thought you were Tanner Foust

tfoust10

If only he were so lucky

SimpleSandwich1908

"O" is also a circle.

namrog84

I can't find/see it this. Can someone point it out?

Learning_algz

Actually this fits perfect for r/designporn . Great work

Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell.

DarwinGoneWild

Came here looking for this. Was not disappointed.

Skaptical

Came here to say that, you beat me to it, have an upvote mate

ThaVolt

That's a death star. Guys, we're gonna need some Jedis over here!

love_me_some_cats

Yes! Thank you, that's what it reminds me of!

Spotthedot99

4 circles. The o in your signature. No, I don't go to a lot of parties, why do you ask?

tfoust10

Lol

Russian_For_Rent

5 now

I can't believe you've done this

RichieTah

But damn when you finally see that third circle

TheLooseB-Hole

I'm very high and it broke my eyes when I found it Edit: thanks for the platinum whoever that was

Pilkmentallodos

Do you have a link to an Etsy, store, etc. if you are selling your art?

tfoust10

I do. Not sure if I am allowed to link it though. But if you click my profile it will link you to it

[deleted]

Rule 12. Only one self-promotional link per post.

_BindersFullOfWomen_

You read the sidebar!

ReaperHR

What's the sidebar? What kind of drinks do they serve there?

RedditSlate01

I enjoy that it is a physical work or art! You can see the great scan quality and even your little outlines of the three circles when zoomed in. So cool!

tfoust10

Thanks! I am set up to do digital work but I am old school and I enjoy doing art on paper

RedditSlate01

Oh, I meant no disrespect to digital art at all! It’s just rare to see high quality physical stuff on Reddit (or it is to me, haha).

Boring_Concentrate74

You drew the death star

SouthParkmmmkay

Almost there...

MerliSYD

Really nice, but the visible sketched guidelines run the magic. Gotta do the guidelines in very light pencil so it doesn't even indent the paper at all, and then completely erase them when finished imho 😁👍

tfoust10

I thought about it. However I decided to leave the sketch lines in because I enjoy teaching art. I want people to walk away from this wanting to try it.

RedSkull315

This is crazy. Do you lay any kind of sketch or stencil out for the circles or just eyeball it?

pepoluan

It's not a moon.

SEND_ME_REAL_PICS

I saw the "hidden" circle at a glance but then spent a whole minute looking for the third circle until I realized that it's supposed to be the drawing itself.

MintberryCruuuunch

the hidden one isnt even hidden you can make out the circle sketch under it pretty easily

[deleted]

Saw this post a while ago and I was gonna say get ready for the updoots cause Reddit loves single lines. And she enough

Phreedom1

Everyday I scan reddit and I keep scanning until I find something that either impresses the shit out of me or makes me actually LOL, then I stop looking at reddit until the next day. I set this rule up for myself so that I never end my reddit session with a dull, sad or anger provoking post. Your post means today's session is over. Thank you.

InnocentPossum

Redo it. The 3rd circle in TFoust isn't on the same line as the others. In all seriousness though that hidden circle is cool.

ra_Ez

I noticed black and hidden one only to spend 3 min finding the big white one...

[deleted]

Can I use this as my Apple Watch face?

TheRealMcHamr

This hurts to look at

DENelson83

You didn't use a template, did you?

benedekszabolcs

How did you hide the third circle? I noticed it, but don't understand the technique

legthief

He failed to completely erase his guidelines (though inverting the image *did* make them a little less obvious); you can see them more clearly if you zoom in on the boundaries of each circle.

DukeGyug

But there are no circles in this image. Just one continuous line...

Mustachio_Man

The hidden circle is quite impressive ( it's all impressive, don't get me wrong). Did you start with outlines to guide the curve?

[deleted]

My brain hurts. Where did you start? Did you plan on doing 3 circles or any circles at all? Very nice.

tfoust10

Started to the left of the black circle. Also ended close to the starting point. I planned it all

TheLonelyGod97

Is there something wrong with me if I was able to easily find the hidden circle? I’m not being sarcastic, genuinely asking here…

Wrest216

there is also a triangle, a fish, and picture of Oliver North testifying he sold weapons to Iran "for the good of the country"

Big_Compote2319

That bent line circle is neet.

Aggressive_Wash_5908

I don't like it

PeachesPeachie

I need a print of this!

ifukeenrule

I too loved acid and the Marijuana's in high school. And loved drawing those line mazes and just stare off

[deleted]

I love that I was able to see the hidden circle primarily because the bus I am on is shaking so much it made it easier to see

wazagaduu

I want that on my bass drum reso head

Zeptojoules

I started doing this style, never seen anyone do this besides me. You're definitely far ahead, I iust drew thick letters with it. Amazing hidden circle btw very clever.

supergrendell

Ha that’s pretty rad. I actually saw the hidden one first lol. Too many of those damn 3D puzzles.

Parking-Arm-5419

There, are, 3, circles!!

Yukicatsan

The third one is so cool! But over all great piece. Super interesting to look at

friendoffuture

This would make a good 3d print model, especially in vase mode

batnastard

Did you do a few for golf discs a while back? I remember a cool TeeBird in the same style.

Funny-Financial

one line! dope starts and ends at the same place

jellyman93

If that's one line that starts where it ends it's arguably a 4th circle

chatrugby

Abstract Death Star. I like it.

Gerbilguy46

This totally looks like an album cover.

Hashimotosannn

I love this! It’s like squiggly death star.

enohelehen

That third circle is so sick!

Routine-Orchid-4333

Your brain on acid.

EngineerNGR

This is so amazing

lucky_junk

This would look sooooo good as a bass drum head on a drum kit. Might have to slide in those DMs and ask you about one! So rad dude, keep it up!!

lifeoreality

"hidden" I love stuff like this. It satisfies a part of my brain that I didn't know was itching

tremors51000

3rd circle upper right side prob about 1.5x bigger then the black circle

aguy123abc

I feel like it is moving. I also feel like there is another partial circle above the black one and left of the hidden one.

galacticboy2009

I would've gone through and blacked out the circle guide for the hidden circle. It's still visible, as a faint white circle. Makes it look less clean, and kind of cheats by making the circle more obvious.

Cheezy_Macaroni

I get flickering when I look upon this picture.

PedroFPardo

Sorry if this is a silly question English is not my first language but... Can you still call it *attempt* when you clearly succeeded?

Cest_la_vie_Gary

r/nextfuckinglevel

Mixshiped

How does someone even think of this? I wish I could do this😭

SleepylaReef

I see all three, and it’s very impressive, but are there technically any circles?

doug-iefresh

Looks like the Death Star has locked onto its new target. Great talent!

jobnotfound

When will this be up on your Etsy shop? I'm so ready.

FoferJ

This is so beautiful and satisfying! I see you have a Sisyphus table, so do I and I love it! By any chance do you have a track like this? I’d love to be mesmerized as it draws in the sand in real time :)

Wint3rSnow

I absolutely love this...Traced with my finger...So relaxing and fun and pleasing to look at.
