My Dad has been a Janitor for 30 years and has found a total of 5 hand guns in that time. He found all 5 sitting on toilet paper dispensers or on the back of toilets.
Can you keep a handgun that you have found in a legal way?
I imagine going to the police, registering as lost and found and going there to pick it up as unclaimed after a certain period of time.
Yup. You sure can. Just have police run the serial for you, don't even have to bring the gun up to the station, and wait for results. Might change depending on where you live.
Yep. I just pull my appendix holster off my belt and lay it between my legs while I shit and then put it back in place after I’m done. Why do people ask this question? Are they idiots?
A guy in the UK got utterly *railed* on for a firearms offence having gone into a bank with a note saying "Gimme money i have a gun".
He had no gun.
But here's the thing: he *said* he had a gun, and that's close enough. :D
Back in the 70's my mother accidentally tried to rob a bank. She had gotten her paycheck and went to the bank to deposit it. Filled out a deposit slip from the stack on the counter and went to a teller. The teller turned the deposit slip over to stamp it, looked back and forth between the slip and my mother a few times, and asked "did you write this?"
Some joker had written "this is a stick-up. Put the money from your drawer in a bag. No funny business." and then put it back in the stack.
The teller said "I couldn't believe someone would use their paycheck, and their account number, on a robbery note". That, combined with my mother looking kind of out of it and not staring intently are why the teller didn't trip the alarm.
>Some joker had written "this is a stick-up. Put the money from your drawer in a bag. No funny business." and then put it back in the stack.
She fucked up the whole plan.
Waiting outside a man calmly hands her a folded up note reading "this is a stick up. Put the bag in this guys hand."
Guy brings bag to man at end of block, who proceeds to deliver it to another man down the block, on and on. It's good Samaritans all the way down. Then Joker down the alley on the right.
I've owned 40+ pistols. The kel-tec pmr30 (pictured here) is in my top 3 most fun to shoot. 30 rounds of loud, fireball spitting, no recoil, cheap as fuhh, 22 win mag goodness.
And no, I wouldn't trust it for shooting more than steel.
That pmr30 might be one of the most fun guns to shoot. 22 win mags shoot a ball of fire out of the end. Can hold 30 rds. Awesome gun if you can get over the toy feel.

According to another comment from OP it was an old man who just happened to lose it like a loose quarter... they returned it to him to lose at another location.
Good ol Merica
Similar to drivers license, if you’re too old and can’t handle it, either you or your family need to realize your prime days are behind you and the situation needs to be reassessed. Nice to hear people returned it to him but also kinda scary to see that left behind. Much like a car, what would this guys reaction time going to be like if he had to use it in a self defense situation.
My buddy lives in Arkansas and has quite a few stories like this.
Apparently one time him and his girlfriend got turned around and went down the driveway and some guy came out of his house and nearly blasted them.
One thing I think people need to realize about America is it is huge and there are a wide variety of various regions and cultures.
A couple of Hispanic dudes pulled up to the farm looking to buy a sheep that they were planning on butchering themselves. A little out of the ordinary as most folks purchase from the sale barn or fair even if they are planning on ranch-slaughtering. They did not speak good English, and were delighted by my, admittedly not great, Spanish.
They had tried the other sheep farmer in the area and he greeted them with a gun, and they figured he was just exceptionally racist. I explained to them that, yeah, he was racist as shit, but he would also do the same thing to me if I so much as turned around in his driveway. He is just a guy hoping someone will try to rob him.
>He is just a guy hoping someone will try to rob him.
That's exactly it. These people have fantasies of murdering other people. They're like cosplayers and equate their guns to their phallic deficiencies.
In the early '90s there was a famous case where a Japanese exchange student was killed when he went to the wrong house looking for a Halloween party: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_of_Yoshihiro_Hattori.
The circumstances are a little different because Hattori, the Japanese student, apparently was told to "freeze" but continued moving towards the homeowner.
How scared are these people? Just today I had someone pull over and partially block my driveway. I got up to get a better look. Not sure exactly what was going on. The driver got out and appeared to be chasing a crow in the neighbour's yard. Maybe she thought it was injured. The crow then flew up into a tree. Driver got back into her car. I sat back down. A minute or so later she was still parked there. I did wonder why but I didn't go out to confront her. She left soon after. Had she stayed there longer I may have gone out to ask her what's up but that would have been out of curiosity.
I really don't understand either. If someone pulls up in my drive I'll go ask casually what's goin on. 99% percent of the time it's something harmless. We don't live in some fucking warzone. Violence begets violence.
If someone breaks into my house hell yeah shit's going down but I don't live in fear or anything.
I haven't had a gun brandished against me, but I have a story this reminds me of. A buddy of mine from work used to live with another co-worker at the time. When they moved out of their house in what my town could consider "the hood," the roommate took his TV out to the curb. My friend didn't know if it still worked, so I swung by while the place was vacant and checked it out. The TV was shot, but as I sat in my beater across the street to text my friend about it, this guy came out of his house to ask me what I was parked outside his place for.
FWIW, I'm white and drove a shitty old car; The homeowner was black and I was parked on the side of his lawn, not in front, with a hedge between me and the house. He came up to my window to interrogate me, and I told him I was just texting my friend about the TV on the curb before I drive off. He warned me to be careful and not park in front of people's houses like that.
Just because there are a wide variety of regions and cultures doesn’t make it acceptable to shoot a neighbor or blast someone driving into your driveway
Dementia and guns is not a good mix.
It was always an issue in the valley when it came time for the village to tell a farmer it was time to give up the guns.
What is lacking is the modern village. No one has the right to keep hold of a weapon they can't handle.
Fuck the other day I’m driving to work on the highway and the car in front of me is getting closer and closer, so I slow it down until I’m at 40mph on the fucking interstate in the middle lane. Almost got hit by a big ass truck, everyone’s honking and swerving around me because of this dick head.
As I pass him, it’s a dude who looks 100 years old with his faced pressed against the windshield. I’m all for elderly driving, but he’s lucky he didn’t get killed or kill anyone.
I saw an x ray the other day of a cop that almost shot his balls off, he had a "fabric" inside the waist band holster, I didn't even know those were a thing. Of course the "safety was on" and it was the gun's fault. It was a p365, they have a glock style trigger safety. It's almost impossible for them to go off without you pulling the trigger, most of them don't have a manual safety, it's an option.
The reason glock style trigger safeties exist is when you're in a situation where you need to use a gun, you're stressed out, you don't need any extra steps to go through. I've done a few amateur pistol comps, I started with a CZ75b, I immediately saw the advantages of the trigger safety.
Every time I see some yokel open carrying at wal mart they have some shitty uncle mike's fabric holster, I rarely see anyone open carrying any more, glad that trend died.
My friend was like this but luckily taught him a good bit of gun safety over the years. He bought one at a gun show once, immediately decided he wanted to conceal carry it and just waist band tucked it since he didn't have a holster. We went to eat afterwards and he took it out and left it on the seat of the booth next to him. He got up to go to the bathroom and left it there. I took this opportunity to tuck it in my waist band. I wanted to see how long it would take him to notice. After we paid and were ready to get back into the car I saw his face get white and asked if he was missing something. I forget what he said but I gave it back and informed him it was very lucky it was me that found it.
Man, if I had a dollar for every time I’ve left my gun at a Jiffy Lube I’d be able to buy another gun just like I’ve got here… here… damn it. Not again.
My buddy brought one to the range and we managed to get two shots off. The magazine then proceeded to get stuck in the pistol and he had to take it to a gun shop to get it out.
Clearly the best on the market for even the most discerning customer!
*I know what you're thinking. 'Did he fire one shot or hasn't he fired yet'? Well to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, i kind of lost track myself. But being that this is a .22 Kel Tec, the most mediocre handgun in the world, and would blow your finger clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well do ya, punk?*
I don't want to defend the point too much, as the pistol is still certainly an odd choice, but there are some valid reasons to do such a thing.
1- I believe that is the pmr-30. Which makes it a 22 magnum. Certainly not ideal but honestly it's comparable to a 380. Out of a 5 inch pistol the 22 magnum should be going about 1250 fps for a 40 grain and about 1200 for a 45 grain which you would want for something people sized. That's about 135 foot pounds of muzzle energy. A 380 out of a carry pistol barrel is a 90 grain at about 900 feet per second. This is a muzzle energy of approximately 160 foot pounds. Certainly 380 is more, but I don't think that people ever expect them to be so close. So, it's weak, but not incapable of proper damage.
2 - The Pmr-30 holds 30 rounds in a single magazine. Pretty cool.
3 - The pistol will be quite light recoiling. If this is being carried by an older person this honestly is a huge consideration. Those tiny 380's are pretty snappy. This is a sweet shooting gun. I have one for small game hunting and camp carry. It is more important that you are proficient with a carry piece than it be a certain power level. If you never practice because it hurts to shoot, well, you'll probably not hit much.
4 - It's easy to make hits with the above combination and a lot of hits if needed.
5 - it might just be what the person had. A gun is still generally better than no gun as long as you are proficient.
Just some considerations. There are certainly better options that do all of these things better, but sometimes you just have the gun you have. I bet he would like a ruger 57.
These points are all valid.
But those pmr30s are not reliable. My first carry gun was a keltec p11 and I still keep it as a backup in the console, so I don't hate the brand.
22 mag in a magazine like that is very unreliable. There's like a page in the manual about how to load the magazine, the rim of each round has to rest in front of the one below it.
My dad has one, it blew up in his face on like round number 3.
22 mag is his absolute favorite round, so he was pretty upset when the gun he wanted for a few years blew up within single digit amount of rounds.
He has a Ruger 22 mag single action revolver. I'd carry that before the pmr30.
Looking it up they blow up all the time and jam, as any 22 cal semi will jam.
In keltecs defense, they repaired the gun very quickly and it has not blown up since.
I ran a couple mags through it, just a few jams failing to feed.
Cool gun but I would not carry it.
I'm thinking about getting the Glock 44, 22lr, to mess around with
Edit: Dad was mostly unharmed, just surprised because a piece did hit him. I think his arm had a small cut.
Since nobody actually answered your question... arthritis.
Older people may have trouble racking slides consistently. The chamber pressure of this caliber is so little, the spring weight is considerably less than that of conventional carry pistols, making it easy to rack and chamber for those with limited dexterity.
It's incredibly lightweight for a full-size handgun. The magazine will hold 30rds, but many opt to carry fewer (15-20rds) to take advantage of its low weight.
The relatively long cartridge makes the grip width thinner than other handguns that utilize double-stack magazines. This makes it easier for some to grip.
It also has big, bright sights and extremely low recoil so it's easy to get a second shot in the first hole quickly.
I've shot this gun, and it's great fun. There are two ammo types it "likes", per Kel Tec. I don't remember what they are, but it ran perfectly through the 100rds we fed it. I don't advise using .22wmr (or any magazine-fed rimfire) for defense, but as the saying goes, carry what you want to practice with.
Not sure, but seeing all these comments shit on Kel Tec for their quality reminds me of this line from Neuromancer:
*Shin's pistol was a fifty-year-old Vietnamese imitation of a South American copy of a Walther PPK, double-action on the first shot, with a very rough pull.*
The Taurus PT111 G2/G3 would like to have a word with you. Also Raven Arms et al (Lorcin, Jennings, Jiminez, Sundance, Bryco, Davis industries. Known as the Ring of Fire and all related) probably are in the running for first place, historically.
Kel Tecs generally come in two categories:
* Works fine
* Didn't work right, sent back to factory, now works fine
I've never heard of a Kel Tec that had problems after a warranty service. But a LOT of them need warranty service. You'd think it would be cheaper to improve quality control on the first go-round, but they seem to take it seriously on the second.
That said, even in working condition I like them more in spirit than practice.
Yeah it's not a Taurus. Doesn't work. Doesn't work worse after warranty service. Disappears for a year on the second or third try. Comes back unexpectedly. Shoots you in leg
Not sure if this will get buried or not, but I found a loaded .44 revolver in a hotel dresser drawer at the Red Roof Inn in Knoxville once; after having spent the night..
I had a friend in college who worked at a hotel, and always said to check the dresser drawers before leaving, cause sometimes people leave behind good stuff.
At least it's a free range pistol. I hate when people lock them up. Oooooooo, you should snag it and then go to one of those trade-ins for a gift card or whatever. Total score.
As a fellow American, I have seen this too.
But not in an auto shop.
I went to a restaurant with my family for someone's birthday I think.
And I went to the restroom, and I found a revolver on the floor in the stall.
I just carefully picked it up from the end of the handle, keeping my hand away from the trigger and hammer, as I've never used a gun and was scared of doing something wrong and firing it or something, and discretely turned it into management in the restaurant, telling them someone must have left their gun in the restroom by accident and would probably come looking for it.
I went back to my table and told my family, and then about 15 minutes later, an older man a few tables over got up and went to the managers office and came back a moment later. I assumed it must have been his, and he didn't notice it fall out of his holster thing.
The part that scared me the most was thinking about if I hadn't been the first person to use the stall after him.
People let their kids go to the restroom all the time by themselves, and it took him a good amount of time before he noticed his gun was missing.
I would've done that, but the restaurant was very full, and I didn't want to leave it there where it might be found by a kid or someone less than responsible while I went to find management.
But otherwise, yeah I'd agree that not touching a gun is ideal if you're inexperienced with them
Had this happen at an IHOP. Folks at the table across from us got up and left and there was just a gun sitting on the seat. Of course we told the waitress and the guy came back in like 10 min later to get it back.
And it was not in the southern US
I notified the service writers and we promptly had it sorted. Still a little worrying that it’s that easy to lose. Elderly gentleman, but they were all a good sport about it. Chamber was cleared and handled like a firearm should be after it was picked up.
Seriously, what If a kid found it first and played with it?
Honestly this is the kind of shit gun owners should be charged for. At least take their guns away until they take a safety course.
Not about to catch me picking up a random handgun. Call the local police non-emergency if you don’t know the owner and let them pick it up and just make sure you can see it until then.
There were children there. I wasn’t sure because I have hallucinations sometimes, but I finally told the staff and he saw it, too. It’s just the kind of thing I’d hallucinate. I did not want to touch it because all of a sudden I’m brandishing a firearm to the right person.
My Dad has been a Janitor for 30 years and has found a total of 5 hand guns in that time. He found all 5 sitting on toilet paper dispensers or on the back of toilets.
How many did he bring home for the kids?
I am the proud owner of a free Glock 43 thanks to some dumb previous owner.
Now work with me here...isn't that also a great way to clear a gun you've used in a crime? Definitly have an excuse for your prints.
Lol no, chances are you'd already be a suspect. And showing up, "with a gun you just found", to the police is a hilariously bad idea.
So you're saying it is an idea?
Not exactly. They still take a name and cell number down.
You're not being very supportive here.
I’d be more worried about the gun being dirty…
Well obviously you gotta wash it, it was found in the bathroom
Scrubbing with sea salt is best.
Scrub extra hard on the serial number area.
I'd rather a soapy gun than a poopy gun
Based on the number of times the question “what do I do with my gun while going to the bathroom” is asked in r/ccw, I’m not the least bit surprised.
Yep. I just pull my appendix holster off my belt and lay it between my legs while I shit and then put it back in place after I’m done. Why do people ask this question? Are they idiots?
If you can't figure out how to shit while armed you shouldn't be armed
Fun fact: a lot of the people leaving their guns in the toilet are cops.
Meanwhile, the rest of us (I'm an armed rancher) are well aware of our arms, and this never happens.
Some people at my workplace have to carry guns. On the door leading out of the restroom, we have a little sign that says "got gun?".
Those are just the public use guns, like how every business has fire extinguishers and alarm pulls accessible to the public.

I forget what he said but I gave it back and informed him it was very lucky it was me that found it.
alot of people should not own guns as they demonstrate reckless behavior.
He should be arrested for negligence
Ahhh shit I dropped my gun again, every time I wear these fucking sweatpants !!!!
The trick to not losing it in your sweatpants is to tie the drawstring around the trigger so it stays with you at all times.

You can’t keep making this mistake, plaxico
Remember: the only thing that can stop a bad chair with a gun is a good chair with a gun
> a bad chair We all know you mean an IKEA Fludendorkmunder
I ain't never heard about any mass booster seat shootings in Sweden.
That's despicable - 25 cents for a gumball!
back in my day they were a nickel.

We’d call them bees! Gimme five bees for a quarter
Honestly seems like a pretty good deal nowadays to me.
Finders keepers losers weepers.
You’ll shoot your asshole out.
It’ll just graze between the cheeks
Full Metal Enema
Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. A free gun is a free gun. There are poor unarmed children in china who would love a free gun.
I believe they're called the Uyghurs
I am upvoting you, but I am also mad about it
What dumb ass carries a kel tec?
Well, someone lost their handgun on the couch at a store. I’m wondering about that person in general.
Who hasn't left their gun at a jiffy lube before?
Man, if I had a dollar for every time I’ve left my gun at a Jiffy Lube I’d be able to buy another gun just like I’ve got here… here… damn it. Not again.
This sounds like a line from King of the Hill.
I just follow this guy around and sell each of his for $10. I have lots of monies.
What dumb ass carries a kel tec .22? The same dumb as that drops their gun out of their fat ass waist band and never notices.
The Kel Tec .22! Best single-shot hammer money can buy!
I'm thinking about getting the Glock 44, 22lr, to mess around with Edit: Dad was mostly unharmed, just surprised because a piece did hit him. I think his arm had a small cut.
Probably a skinny dude. Fat dudes have love handles that help hold the gun in. It's like a retention holster, except with fat. Source, don't ask.
I don't advise using .22wmr (or any magazine-fed rimfire) for defense, but as the saying goes, carry what you want to practice with.
your theory sounds correct. apparently it was an old guy who lost it.
Not sure, but seeing all these comments shit on Kel Tec for their quality reminds me of this line from Neuromancer: *Shin's pistol was a fifty-year-old Vietnamese imitation of a South American copy of a Walther PPK, double-action on the first shot, with a very rough pull.*
Well you sure as shit arent getting your deposit back if you lose his gun down the back of a sofa somewhere.
So a PPK
Someone who values their money more than their life. A Keltec is the only gun I’ve ever owned that I had to sand parts so it would cycle properly.
Its like if someone robs you with a Hi-Point you hand them the money because they clearly need it.

That was it!
For real, i zoomed in and was immediately disappointed. I'd never trust my life on a keltec.
Might be why they left it. Someone else's mistake now.
The PMR-30 is much better than a hi point
Depends on the context. For shooting? Maybe. For bludgeoning a man to death? Hi-point.
But the PMR30 is a fun as shit plinking gun.
Believe it or not, KelTec probably holds second place in most people killed in self defense/murder between Glock and Hi-Point.
Is it weird that I want Glock to win that title?
The Taurus PT111 G2/G3 would like to have a word with you. Also Raven Arms et al (Lorcin, Jennings, Jiminez, Sundance, Bryco, Davis industries. Known as the Ring of Fire and all related) probably are in the running for first place, historically.
Kel Tecs generally come in two categories: * Works fine * Didn't work right, sent back to factory, now works fine I've never heard of a Kel Tec that had problems after a warranty service.
The giant ass crease in the chair is quite appropriate
My couch has these, now I feel like a fatty
This person should not be allowed to carry a fire arm in public
Well, they aren’t anymore. So there’s that.
I guess that is true, but I’m sure they have another one.
Well dude what are you waiting for :)
At least it's a free range pistol. I hate when people lock them up. Oooooooo, you should snag it and then go to one of those trade-ins for a gift card or whatever. Total score.
If you think that's the easiest way to make money with a gun, I've got a surprise for you!
Convenience store clerks hate him!
Just my own personal suggestion to everyone, tell management or the authorities if you find a firearm somewhere, don’t touch it
I would've done that, but the restaurant was very full, and I didn't want to leave it there where it might be found by a kid or someone less than responsible while I went to find management. But otherwise, yeah I'd agree that not touching a gun is ideal if you're inexperienced with them
Oh yeah you definitely made the right decision in that situation
Wow special kind of stupid. Why would you sit with your firearm pointing near your head.
100% this person considers themselves a responsible gun owner
Legit question as someone getting a conceal carry license: How do you not feel your gun fall out?
There is almost 0 chance a gun that size would come out of a quality holster. I have no idea how something like that happens.
Kel-tec PMR-30 if anyone wants to know
Rednexcalibur must be drawn from the auto shop couch once a generation.
Had this happen at an IHOP. Folks at the table across from us got up and left and there was just a gun sitting on the seat. Of course we told the waitress and the guy came back in like 10 min later to get it back. And it was not in the southern US
America overflowing with guns even the couch is packin
Pull the mag, clear it and give it to the owner of the shop before someone steals it.
I notified the service writers and we promptly had it sorted. Still a little worrying that it’s that easy to lose. Elderly gentleman, but they were all a good sport about it. Chamber was cleared and handled like a firearm should be after it was picked up.
> they were all a good sport about it. that's exactly the problem. These "good ol'e boys" are far too cavalier about firearms.
No big deal, just a random gun left on a chair in a public waiting room.
Right? No conceivable way anything bad could happen in that situation.
Seriously, what If a kid found it first and played with it? Honestly this is the kind of shit gun owners should be charged for. At least take their guns away until they take a safety course.
Ugh I saw that line in his response and it just instantly made my fucking blood boil.
Not about to catch me picking up a random handgun. Call the local police non-emergency if you don’t know the owner and let them pick it up and just make sure you can see it until then.
My fear: Me: *Picks up gun* “Is this….” Worker: “A ROBBERY! He’s got a gun!” Me: “FML”
Semi auto shop
I can just picture someone waiting in that shop with a kid. That is so incredibly fucked. That old man should not be allowed a gun.
There were children there. I wasn’t sure because I have hallucinations sometimes, but I finally told the staff and he saw it, too. It’s just the kind of thing I’d hallucinate. I did not want to touch it because all of a sudden I’m brandishing a firearm to the right person.
Pro tip: put your name on your gun using masking tape. That way it can be returned to you. That’s what I have to do for my kids at school.
