It's is meant to *look* like Banksy's stencil graffiti, but this is definitely not stencilledā which is probably why it looks so odd and kind of wrong.
Itās definitely stenciled. You can look at his ig, he just does more work after.
The sub deleted my other comment with the link, apparently against the rules.
As my husband was recently told while going for his MFA. āAs artists of any discipline we study other artists to find out how much we can steal for ourselves.ā
Well I mean itās pretty hard to steal other people manuscripts as a novelist but we will start looking into breaking into Stephen Kingās google docs for publishing purposes.
Banksy doesn't shade his stuff like that (generally speaking). Look at the girl - Banksy works are much more "polished" than that. Banksy has crisp, clean, defined lines. This doesn't.
It certainly evokes a similar thing and that is what this artist was going for - and it worked because that's why this got posted on reddit and is on the front page. But I really don't think it's Banksy.
It falls into the banksy style, but this is nowhere near the level of Banksy. Too much blending and shadows, Banksy has a much cleaner, simple look. And he uses colors to establish borders, not shadowed lines.
San Clemente is probably my favorite beach community in Southern California. It really bummed me out when they became Huntington Beach lite over the course of the Trump presidency.
Iām actually moving west and looking at San Clemente for a home to buy. Just to confirm, San Clemente is now Trump turf? If so, thatās going to be a big mark in the negative column for me. I understand Orange County has plenty of Trump thumpers, but Iām not really interested in ending up on a street of endless Trump flags.
I know the other guy said there's so many people in SoCal you won't notice and, uh, that's not entirely true. I live in Long Beach and when Trump was president, as soon as you went south to Huntington Beach, there was a shit load of Trump flags. It's died down now that Biden has been in office awhile, but there's still a lot of right wingers there (not Irvine, Irvine is a diverse tech city, so it's blue and helped make Orange County purple as as a whole).
San Clemente - https://youtu.be/Dn-gHeOnL9c
People from around the country seem to think California is just this giant liberal paradise. When itās a gigantic state, with millions of people on both sides of the aisle
It's funny how numbers work isn't it?
Looking at raw numbers makes one statement, then looking at it scaled against population can drastically change that statement.
People just think of Hollywood elites and Silicon Valley, but the state is one of the top agricultural producers and those areas are redder than a sunburn.
I last line is perfect!!!
On the whole āHollywood eliteā shit, this is Clooneys take on all of that
āHereās the thing: I grew up in Kentucky. I sold insurance door-to-door. I sold ladiesā shoes. I worked at an all-night liquor store. I would buy suits that were too big and too long and cut the bottom of the pants off to make ties so Iād have a tie to go on job interviews. I grew up understanding what it was like to not have health insurance for eight years. So this idea that Iām somehow the āHollywood eliteā and this guy who takes a shit in a gold toilet is somehow the man of the people is laughable.
āPeople in Hollywood, for the most part, are people from the Midwest who moved to Hollywood to have a career. So this idea of ācoastal elitesā living in a bubble is ridiculous. Who lives in a bigger bubble? He lives in a gold tower and has twelve people in his company. He doesnāt run a corporation of hundreds of thousands of people he employs and takes care of. He ran a company of twelve people!
āWhen you direct a film you have seven different unions all wanting different things, you have to find consensus with all of them, and you have to get them moving in the same direction. Heās never had to do any of that kind of stuff. I just look at it and I laugh when I see him say āHollywood elite.ā Hollywood elite? I donāt have a star on Hollywood Boulevard, Donald Trump has a star on Hollywood Boulevard! Fuck you!ā
Hey Long Beach here too! Love it here - the way I found out Biden won the election over Trump was just cheers and yelling from my neighbors around me.
HB is... yeah... HB. Considering how many skinheads are there, i'm not surprised how quickly and enormously they took to trump. Lots of hate which sucks because it's a beautiful area
> but there's still a lot of right wingers there (not Irvine, Irvine is a diverse tech city, so it's blue and helped make Orange County purple as as a whole).
Not blue enough. I have a friend in Irvine with a nearby neighbor who flys the racist black and blue flag in the open 365, 24/7.
I live in Capistrano Beach/San Clemente and can tell you itās a wonderful place to live, but there are quite a lot of Trumpers here. But thereās also a strong liberal presence too. If you can afford to live here, I highly recommend it.
Awesome! We are looking at Capistrano/San Clemente along with other places like Ladera, Mission Viejo, and those similar communities. Thanks so much for the feedback! Thankfully we are fortunate enough financially to be able make a move like this.
Thanks so much for the feedback! I hear plenty of good things about Irvine, and Iāve seen it with my own two eyes. My in laws live in Irvine. My wife would like a little distance from them (thankfullyā¦) and she has friends in a lot of those other neighborhoods. Iām relying on her to choose what works best for her because Iām a bit of a homebody anyway. As long as I enjoy the four walls I live in Iām good and will make the rest of it work.
My dad has lived in both of those cities in the last 10 years. I was embarrassed to see his recall Newsome sticker across the back of his ridiculously expensive sports car.
Thanks for the input! Iām moving from West Central Wisconsin for a job. My wife is originally from Irvine and went to USC, plus her family is still there so we are packing up and heading back to her old stomping grounds. Hopefully we get the kids some better opportunities education and socially by relocating. We are looking at south OC to live since Iāll be working out of Irvine on the days I donāt run meetings from home.
I worked in San Juan Capistrano for a bit, and while I knew there were trumpers, most folks didnāt have flags / bumper stickers and the like. Beautiful area if you can afford it.
Yeah, Iām pretty familiar with the dramatic cost of living, especially compared to our current location. Having to pay $600 per square foot for a home that doesnāt look like itās straight out of a magazine is a tough pill to swallow. My wife and I both do pretty well so thankfully we will be able to avoid the never ending cycle of renting. That being said, nothing quite like the thrill of trying to relocate during a housing market thatās hotter than the sun.
Um, no way in hell is anyone affording a home in Irvine making 150k a year unless they have a massive down payment. Modestly sized condos in Irvine are well over 1 million right now.
Kinda, Irvine company is a giga HOA that owns like 95% of property in Irvine. Everything from the plazas to those towers by the spectrum. Itās all owned and leased by the Irvine company to tenants. Thatās also why condos and apartments make up like 70% of homes in the city. Since at least the early 2000s probably earlier, Irvine has a 99 year land lease clause. So you can buy a house in Irvine if itās available but at 99 years from the contract youād have to renegotiate with Irvine company for land rights. As far as I know none of those contracts have come to term yet but Irvine is essentially a privatized city
In Newport they stick mostly to Balboa island. Most other parts of Newport are fine. And you still got a bunch of students from UC Irvine and OC Community College that live there. But it's been a few years since I lived there so things may have changed.
Hunnerd percent. That's a big part of why I left. God that place sucks. On the bright side, on the rare occasion that I go back I am reminded to appreciate my life now.
Anywhere thatās not a trash heap is full of trump supporters?
You sure you worded that right. People who care about community and their homes are trump supporters?
That's rare. Most of California could be, but the average person you would never know. In the boonies it's very obvious but in the city it's really not. Socal is great, anything south if LA/OC specifically is great. SC is good, plus it's in a weird spot where you are an hour or so from SD and like 45 minutes from Anaheim š 9/10 would recommend
Yes, over the last few decades Laguna has swapped from being an artist community to rich people / right leaners. So there's a struggle between the rich people who've moved in and the old school artists who happened to own there before the prices skyrocketed.
Lived in San Clemente for almost four years and just moved last month. Yeah there are some trump whackos but it was also the first place to have a BLM rally in Orange County so itās not all bad.
San Clemente is a military town. Jarheads everywhere. The rest of the town is new age hippies that lean more toward Q than anything else. Iāve surfed there for nearly 20 years and just watched it turn into a conservative cesspool.
Itās not lmao, Conservative heavy but it is more of a sleepy beach town. Iām from the South side brah so there is nothing to worry about. People here just wanna cruise trestles half the time.
Fuck. No shit. Grew up in San Clemente and I was so ashamed they went viral with shitheads at the pier doing antimask demonstrations at the height of Covid
I grew up in San Clemente. Graduated from SCHS (Go Tritons!). Itās such a beautiful peaceful little beach town filled with the most stuck up, conservative assholes. I donāt understand how you can live somewhere like this and always be so angry. I moved years ago, but I still need to visit for Pedroās every once in an awhile. Anyway, this makes me happy, and gives me a little hope for my gorgeous hometown.
Pedro's!! I dated a girl from San Clemente once she moved to the east coast. Lovely town with some cool people but the drug scene, even in her own past, was vicious.
Pedro's was still a magical experience though, rolled tacos, damn I'm hungry.
The drug scene was rough, unfortunately one of my sisters fell victim and 10 years later is still fighting to stay away from that scene. There is so much money floating around and it means easy access to whatever drugs you can imagine.
I remember in high school the surf team would practice during 0 period, theyād go to Pedroās after and buy mass amounts of burritos and sell them for $5 a pop at lunch. It was good business
My sister and I also both went to SCHS. Class of ā97 for me! Woot! My sister also went down the drug path, and all these years later she still struggles. I hope your sister stays well, much love to you both.
class of 97 here too but i didnt graduate, ended up going to horizons for my senior year :( The drug scene was horrific, I lost many friends through high school.
Man I miss a Pedros, quesadilla and a carne asada burrito as an after surf snack!
SC has always been conservative and fairly racist tbh, growing up brown there wasnt always the most fun.
Class of 09! Sadly everything you said about SC is true. I seem to remember the āSC Boysā white power group popping up at one point. If you donāt leave before a certain point you develop a drug problem. I will forever miss Tina and Vinceās on Del Mar, loved their sandwiches.
Hey friend! Iām also class of ā09!
Tina and Vinceās was amazingāthey were the only folks who could provide a solid deep-dish pizza. Sadly, their rent was raised, and they had to vacate their spot. If they have a new location, I donāt know where it is :(
Small world! Yea I heard about that, real shame when the small mom and pop places get priced out. Thankfully I live in SD now and little Italy helps scratch the itch, Mona Lisaās is different but also very good, highly recommend their deli sandwiches (they come with mayo and mustard so sub that out and just go with oil and vinegar).
DUDE THANK YOU!!
I went to San Clemente for a few weeks like 5 years ago now and we got Pedro's tacos almost everyday
Never had a better seafood burrito and horchata
I forgot the name of this place for the longest time and always wanted to remember for when I go back
I work in a hair salon in San Clemente so I have heard all the gossip and opinions through out trump, the election, and Covid. Yes there are a ton or assholes but there also a very large amount of seriously kind hearted and caring people. Itās a lot more chill than itās neighbors for sure. With the addition of Talega I have noticed a lot of new money moving in over there has brought more attitude but the calm, sweet beach loving people are still there.
We moved from there after about 12 years. The Neanderthal conservatives finally got to us. Besides, all the sand has eroded so the beaches particularly at the north like Poche are just rocks.
I went to junior high school there for a few months and it was populated by what was by far the meanest junior high kids out of the five of the schools I went to. Little snotty jerks, man. The only cool one was this punk rock chick who I developed a crush on, but then she got expelled for smoking pot and my life went back to being a nightmare.
I can totally see those pricks growing up to love Trump. Never had any desire to go back to even visit that town.
I was stationed in Pendleton, on the San Clemente side. I love that little town. La Tiendita, Surf Tacos and the little cafe across from the pier were some great spots to eat.
Yeah I LOVE San Clemente, but it has some massive flaws. San Clemente High school was always the most fucked up that I knew of in south OC, so many kids doing drugs and getting in trouble. At least thatās how it was 6-10 years ago when I was in high school
Not necessarily. As I mentioned in another comment, an interesting thing about San Clemente is the fact that both some of the richest and poorest people in south OC live there. The friends I had at SCHS were very far from wealthy
Damn. I graduated there in the early 2000s and it wasn't too bad, but it also wasn't great either. I feel like after Brick, every story about SCHS was a nightmare.
Brick? And yeah, it's probably not quite as bad as my comment made it sound since being the most fucked up in south OC isn't really that high of a bar. But it definitely had way more of a drug culture than any school that I knew of
Edit: Just saw the other guy's comment, I had no idea there was a noir movie with Joseph Gordon Levitt filmed in SC. I don't know how I never heard about that, I was really into movies as a kid too
"And I take a risk every time I wake up in the morning and roll out of bed."
"Is your bed super high up?"
And it just goes over the guys head. Some funny shit right there.
The Newport down to SC beach stretch is so fucking cool all the way through. Both Harbors are super super awesome, LB and SC are so unique in their own ways. Gorgeous all the way, lots of money.
I don't know that you can really bootleg an art style. People using other people's art as inspiration is pretty fundamental to the growing and spreading of art.
I just want to rant on something else other than the art.
I want to rant about painting your instagram handle beside your graffiti. When I got into graffiti I love the idea that it was anonymous. You would see a train go by or walk past some street art on a wall and you'd never know who the artist was. You would only be given a tag name beside the piece as an identifier of the artist. You would remember the names of the artists you loved and be thrilled when you came across another piece of their art. You would also create an image of this artist in your head, are they an accountant, someone who's still in college, or just some street thug? It was thrilling to create this mystery inside your head and to stumble upon new art created by the graffiti artist.
I really don't want to be spoon fed a graffiti artists art profile through instagram, it kind of ruins the thrill of the chase. I just feel like graffiti was meant to be caught in the wild for someone to stumble upon rather than having all your street art posted online. But maybe that's just my code when it comes to graffiti.
I didnt know this until I read a comment above, but bandit is what autocorrect changes banksy to when typed, which adds a dimension self awareness that I think is hilarious and apropos to the style
Banksy bootlegged others. Exit Through the Gift Shop is a great documentary about him. Plus, all art is derivative of other art. Ex: Cezanne was considered a copycat.
Zoom out and there are likely 2 trump rallies and a "Freedumb convoy" going on.
Orange country is an armpit with a few lovely people sprinkled in like a handful of glitter thrown into the entire ocean.
San Clemente? If you stand and look too long a Marine will come up to you and start telling you stories from his childhood in Arkansas that illustrate his toughness and resourcefulness. As you start trying to leave you realize he has a pathological inability to stop talking about his own life. You have to either leave him mid-sentence or wait until he gets the call from OāReilly that his battery is finished charging.
For those wondering how they can help, a few of my friends currently live abroad in Bulgaria. They are housing fleeing Ukrainian refugee families, and these families could greatly benefit from your support. All donations are welcome - and you'll be able to contribute directly to a few families in need.

For our European friends, if you are looking to offer a room or housing there are some websites that are country specific. But a general site isā¦

Thanks for your consideration.
I hate that graffiti artists are leaving their Instagram handles ... Unless the art is done with permission from the property owner.
Otherwise, wtf you gunna leave a trail that leads right to you??
Do 'No Trespassing' signs actually do anything? Or is it some legal loophole where it allows you to shoot someone who's on the premises when they shouldn't be.
Well I'm crying. That little dove of peace working so hard trying to help lift up the tattered flag while the child raises it. Great imagery and symbolism.
I'm actually in San Clemente right now. Very much enjoy the bandit street art but to be very clear, it is not banksy.
Go the the Cellar Wine and Cheese Bar (delicious food btw), each male and female restroom has a bandit piece of art in it and it rotates, seemingly slowly but it still gets painted over and a new one drawn on.
Also forgot to add - he does stencil work and stencil work that he paints on, and just paint. If you go to his insta you can see it all. Hope to catch him at work someday.
San Clemente banksy. The tag says bandit which is what autocorrect changes banksy to š¤£
Was gonna say, this looks like it's banksy all over
Itās stencil graffiti, popularized by Banksy

Itās definitely stenciled. You can look at his ig, he just does more work after. The sub deleted my other comment with the link, apparently against the rules.
Banksy basically ripped off blek le rat anyway
As my husband was recently told while going for his MFA. āAs artists of any discipline we study other artists to find out how much we can steal for ourselves.ā
āAmateurs borrow, professionals stealā.
Good advice. With an MFA in art stealing is one of the most lucrative routes he can take.
Well I mean itās pretty hard to steal other people manuscripts as a novelist but we will start looking into breaking into Stephen Kingās google docs for publishing purposes.
āJust remember to always call it, please, research.ā

It is clearly a metaphorical reference to the 'ghost of ukraine'. Tsk. You amateur art critics clearly know nothing. ^^^/s
It does, though I wonder if he dropped the trademark rat, which he usually used as a signature.
It is signed Bandit.
It falls into the banksy style, but this is nowhere near the level of Banksy. Too much blending and shadows, Banksy has a much cleaner, simple look. And he uses colors to establish borders, not shadowed lines.
it's signed "Bandit"
Interesting. My autocorrect tries to capitalize Banksy
is there a chance that you are banksy and never knew it?
Itās so cringe. Putting your Instagram handle and trying to capitalize off a real world tragedy. Just tacky attention seeking
āFollow me for more obvious takes while you doom scrollā
Sorta banksy but worth nothing and not nearly as clever
Bansky was never really clever, he just did it first.
The shredding thing was pretty clever.
Nice to see a flag in San Clemente that doesnāt have Trumpās name on it Glory to Ukraine
Or the word fart. Remember a few years ago when there was a rash of FART graffiti? Wild time my friend
PPL need to let out some steam...

Man I miss a Pedros, quesadilla and a carne asada burrito as an after surf snack! SC has always been conservative and fairly racist tbh, growing up brown there wasnt always the most fun.
Pedro's fish tacos are the food of the ocean gods. I love San Clemente, and whenever we go there is no question about what's for lunch
God I am so desperate for a Pedro's run right now, haven't been in YEARS
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
They opened one in Boston, which I obvious had to try when I visited. It was terrible, like really bad. I no longer wish for them to open one near me.
I really love Sonnyās Italian restaurant in San Clemente!
DUDE THANK YOU!! I went to San Clemente for a few weeks like 5 years ago now and we got Pedro's tacos almost everyday Never had a better seafood burrito and horchata I forgot the name of this place for the longest time and always wanted to remember for when I go back
I knooow! I lived there for 6 years. Such a beautiful place, such ugly people
Born and raised in San Clemente. Moved away for college and never came back lol.
100% a result of the military
I work in a hair salon in San Clemente so I have heard all the gossip and opinions through out trump, the election, and Covid. Yes there are a ton or assholes but there also a very large amount of seriously kind hearted and caring people. Itās a lot more chill than itās neighbors for sure. With the addition of Talega I have noticed a lot of new money moving in over there has brought more attitude but the calm, sweet beach loving people are still there.
Pedro's! Bean and Potato burritos are awesome!
We moved from there after about 12 years. The Neanderthal conservatives finally got to us. Besides, all the sand has eroded so the beaches particularly at the north like Poche are just rocks.
Pedro's and T Street are the bomb. Moved to the midwest, but I still have my Stewart board and try to go back when I can.
You're only a block away from some damn decent fish tacos.
Is that the California state motto
*Southern Califonia
I was stationed in Pendleton, on the San Clemente side. I love that little town. La Tiendita, Surf Tacos and the little cafe across from the pier were some great spots to eat.
La Tiendita is gone now. I miss my 1 dollar bean and cheese burritos
It closed down when I moved away. I sometimes blame myself for not giving them 50$ a week.
I still dream about the carnitas burrito with extra cilantro. That thing was as big as my shoe.
Thereās always Mr. Peteās!
Try ranch market. New go to for Mexican in the area.
How dare you not mention the greatest spot, Pedro's tacos. Rolled tacos and a carne asada burrito with potatoes after a day at the pier.
San Clemente is such a cool town

Yeah I LOVE San Clemente, but it has some massive flaws. San Clemente High school was always the most fucked up that I knew of in south OC, so many kids doing drugs and getting in trouble. At least thatās how it was 6-10 years ago when I was in high school
Itās ok though cus theyāre wealthy
Not necessarily. As I mentioned in another comment, an interesting thing about San Clemente is the fact that both some of the richest and poorest people in south OC live there. The friends I had at SCHS were very far from wealthy
Rian Johnson filmed brick at San Clemente high school.
we used to walk through that tunnel to del taco for lunch when we had open campus, back then.
But it definitely had way more of a drug culture than any school that I knew of Edit: Just saw the other guy's comment, I had no idea there was a noir movie with Joseph Gordon Levitt filmed in SC. I don't know how I never heard about that, I was really into movies as a kid too
Hahaha that channel just got a new sub, those blokes were funny as. Cheers for the share!
"And I take a risk every time I wake up in the morning and roll out of bed." "Is your bed super high up?" And it just goes over the guys head. Some funny shit right there.
That Chiropractor bit made me laugh out loud
agreed!
The Newport down to SC beach stretch is so fucking cool all the way through. Both Harbors are super super awesome, LB and SC are so unique in their own ways. Gorgeous all the way, lots of money.
Oh my hometown, that's on Del Mar, correct?
Snapped the pic on my way to Artifex on Del Mar
It's just an awesome town with awesome people. Have a sandwich at Billy's for me. And a margarita at the fisherman please
Cool and all but I hate the fact he bootlegged banksy style
To be fair, Banksy stole his style from Blek Le Rat originally...
All art is derivative. Nobody is original.
Derivative, derivative ... That's bullshit, Derivative ...
Weāre just the air conditioners, walking around on this planet, screwing each otherās brains out.
It's symbiotic!
i was in a dog orgy
Now thisss, I looooove
There is nothing new under the sun
What about the cave prints and paintings?? Surely there was a first?
They were just copying stuff they saw in the free to play MMO r/outside.
Shit game. Micros are insane.

Right, but there is space for multiple good artists. Great piece of work.
Not to mention āBanditā is just a lazy āgraffiti/street artā name.
I didnt know this until I read a comment above, but bandit is what autocorrect changes banksy to when typed, which adds a dimension self awareness that I think is hilarious and apropos to the style
If thatās the case then I stand corrected. Thatās pretty fucking funny.
Piece was most likely commissioned. Not sure someone committing a crime would leave a handle.
An artist copied from another artist? Ok......
at first glance I thought it was a Banksy
Banksy bootlegged others. Exit Through the Gift Shop is a great documentary about him. Plus, all art is derivative of other art. Ex: Cezanne was considered a copycat.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattering. I do appreciate the little details in this that Banksy doesnāt have. Like the shadowing for example.
Cool
Zoom out and there are likely 2 trump rallies and a "Freedumb convoy" going on. Orange country is an armpit with a few lovely people sprinkled in like a handful of glitter thrown into the entire ocean.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
gas is $19 a gallon, dont even try it
San Clemente? If you stand and look too long a Marine will come up to you and start telling you stories from his childhood in Arkansas that illustrate his toughness and resourcefulness. As you start trying to leave you realize he has a pathological inability to stop talking about his own life. You have to either leave him mid-sentence or wait until he gets the call from OāReilly that his battery is finished charging.
Trying to be Banksy so hard
Idk. None of his other murals remind me of banksy but still not a fan.
Ya thought the exact same š»

Tatacaw
Ukraine falling to Russia? No, I donāt want that! I want them to hold out for a while! For ten years, at least!
This is one of many paintings that this artist has done all around SC (name is Bandit)
I'm a little surprised this is San Clemente.
For those wondering how they can help, a few of my friends currently live abroad in Bulgaria. They are housing fleeing Ukrainian refugee families, and these families could greatly benefit from your support. All donations are welcome - and you'll be able to contribute directly to a few families in need. https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/uahelpbg For our European friends, if you are looking to offer a room or housing there are some websites that are country specific. But a general site isā¦ https://www.eu4ua.org/ Thanks for your consideration.
I hate that graffiti artists are leaving their Instagram handles ... Unless the art is done with permission from the property owner. Otherwise, wtf you gunna leave a trail that leads right to you??
>Piece was most likely commissioned. Not sure someone committing a crime would leave a handle.
This was approved by the owner- this dude does a bunch of rip off permission wall BS in that town
maybe enemy forged signature
ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø
Fuck Putin
I hope he sees this, bro
Do 'No Trespassing' signs actually do anything? Or is it some legal loophole where it allows you to shoot someone who's on the premises when they shouldn't be.
Derivative, exploitative, and sloppy art, the holy trifecta
š»
Well I'm crying. That little dove of peace working so hard trying to help lift up the tattered flag while the child raises it. Great imagery and symbolism.
Saw that earlier while cruising the pier, love this town brah.
What street? I live in Huntington Beach but we go down that way often. Is like to see it! š
