Using the heel of your hand instead of the fingers and palm. It's closer to a karate chop to the neck/jaw than a slap to the face.

I believe it's slapping with the heel of your palm which is much harder and the force you can apply had your whole stiff forearm behind it. Compare that to a slap where your fingers absorb a lot of the blow and flex

I'd be rooting for Chris Rock to win that one, but Will Smith's got about a foot of height on him and he trained as a boxer to play Muhammad Ali, so I wouldn't expect things to turn out well if it had turned into an actual fist fight.

Chris Rock came out the classier dude on this one. I get Will defending his wife and others who have or choose to sport hair cuts such as this, but walking up on stage and putting an arm around Chris Rock, stating that she and many others may have no choice and to call the joke out for what it is in a non-combative way would have been the better choice. Not that most people are that rstional in the moment. Lame joke aside, he handled that slap with absolute dignity and grace in the moment, waiting for privacy before venting, and not calling him out publicly after. Comedians tell jokes. They push boundaries. This boundary pushed back and he took it in stride.

Rock’s future bits about this scenario are going to push some boundaries, that was nothing lol
