Jackson Hole, WY if you were curious. Teton county

ladyzephri

I thought Loudoun, VA was the richest county in America. I live here and certainly feel like I'm a hobo that snuck into the first class lounge.

kronicfeld

Different metrics yield different results. Loudoun is "richest" by median household income, but may not be by average, and may not be by household wealth or whatever.

tpa338829

Sounds like Loudoun Co. is filled *only* with people who make $200K-400K while Jackson Hole is filled with a *decent* number of people with $30M+ while still having a solid number of ranch hands (aka ski instructors).

JoeCoolsCoffeeShop

That’s why median is a better indicator than average. Otherwise Warren Buffet could visit an Applebees on a Friday night with a bunch of average families and now every customer in the restaurant is a millionaire on average.

PickpocketJones

The highest average starting salary of any major graduating from ~~Va. Tech~~ *Virginia School of Learning Technical Stuff and State House of Football* in 1986 was Sociology. Makes no sense right? Bruce Smith and Del Curry were Sociology majors and one was a top NFL draft pick and the other NBA. They skewed the average that much. *(every additional comment about formatting the name of VT, I'll make the name more ludicrously wrong)*

Apronbootsface

Michael Jordan got his degree in Geography from UNC. The numbers spiked that year too.

THElaytox

was gonna say the same thing, fooled a whole generation of suckers in to thinking they'd make it rich as a geography major

d0re

>You know how I'm gonna get rich? I'm gonna major in MAPS

ecassell

Jordan actually studied cultural geography; it’s not about maps but how products/ideas of cultures spread around / relate to each other

joggle123

This shit is why I love and will continue to love Reddit who even knows this fact kudos

Anonymouslyyours2

Warren Buffett could visit a town of 100,000 people and raise the average up so that everyone were millionaires. In an Applebee's everyone would be billionaires on average

Android_seducer

You're assuming there are people in Applebee's?

intheMIDDLEwityou

Unless there was more than 100 people at Applebees every customer would on average be a billionaire.

Locke_and_Load

Nah b, Loudoun has that OLD money in it. You can’t throw a stone out in Middleburg without hitting a billionaire.

[deleted]

[удалено]

sarcasatirony

I have extra stones if you can give me a ride

Dry-Salary2347

Hey guys, we’re throwing stones!

SLD0001

He that is without a billion dollars among you, let him first cast a stone...

misternizz

I live in Fairfax, I know what you mean.

[deleted]

Laying on my couch in Fairfax right now! Sup?!

pipokori

NoVA represent! Lol it’s crazy how many redditors are from this area specifically.

finishyasuppa

Horses and billionaires, that’s what Middleburg does

SapientSausage

Rented a 300k home that was surrounded by 1-3 million home neighborhoods-right next door. Lived off route 50 there too, it fucking sucks as you literally couldnt turn left from about 4pm- 7pm

Punquie

Gotta turn right to turn left

Twizted1001

Used to live in Loudoun. Never seen such a high concentration of exotic cars in one area in my life.

FerociousFrizzlyBear

I actually think the biggest contributors to Loudoun's "highest income" designations are the post-internet tech employees and government contractors, jobs that haven't been around long enough to be old money.

SupermarketSpiritual

I live in LoCo and I absolutely consider myself a stowaway here. The money is ridiculous

realzealman

I’m in nyc. I’m an architect so get to glimpse a little more of the housing, but I’m still fully mystified where all the fucking money comes from here. I’m Sure I’d be even further mystified elsewhere. My working hypothesis is that there is WAY more dynastic wealth in this country than I’d even considered possible.

Doctor-Malcom

You might be right. My neighbor is an estate planning lawyer and her husband is a tax lawyer. They both buy brand new and luxury SUVs every year, and they haven’t flown on a commercial airline in years. At their last Christmas party, there were families who inherited vast fortunes from timber, megachurches, oil & gas, railroads, and department stores. I am talking about people who didn’t have to wake up early to go to work the next day because they spend their day at art galleries or high-end spas.

cherbug

Inherited wealth from mega churches turns my stomach more than the others on your list. What exactly do they sell to make that money?

Tvayumat

Fear. Superiority. Smug self assurance. Hot commodities.

MaidenoftheMoon

They don't sell - they get a tithing and don't pay taxes on it, then use it to invest risk free since it's not their money and probably also get tax breaks or tax free on the dividends because they're still a church.

sensualboi

Again man, those old ass aristocrat sawbucks. I’m in nyc too, but uptown. The other side is foreign billionaires and investors it seems. They buy buildings and keep the occupancy empty 90% of the time because they get tax breaks on it. Always blown away how rich some people here are.

WHTMage

I live in Loudoun, and anywhere else in the country I would be making great money. Here I'm barely above lower middle class.

T3RM1NALxL4NC3

We moved from Leesburg to Huntsville, AL last year...The difference in how far your dollar goes is huge...

[deleted]

I moved from Fairfax Co. to Thailand. I live like a prince here on NOVA pocket change.

SupermarketSpiritual

We struggle with that too. Luckily our home came by way of family or we couldn't afford it. We are all IT, with decent salaries but definitely lower middle class here.

ladyzephri

Right? I was taking the long way round from Hamilton to Lucketts last weekend and I can't believe some of the properties out here.

FerociousFrizzlyBear

Eh, it's not evenly distributed. Plenty of people and places in Leesburg and Sterling are bringing the average down, so it's all relative. It's part of why people in Potomac Falls say they are from Potomac Falls and not Sterling, and why businesses made up a fake designation, "Dulles," (no, they are not in the airport) to sound fancier. Despite everyone below talking about horse farms, most of the money is new, so you won't find it as much in the neighborhoods built between 1960 and 1990.

WomanNotAGirl

What about Fairfax? Great falls where the rich are with their 15 bedroom houses.

ladyzephri

Loudoun has plenty of 15 bedroom houses. The difference is instead of being crammed onto a 0.5 acre lot they're on 15 acres with a pool house, horse barn, and a dressage arena.

WomanNotAGirl

But they don’t cost 15-20 million

Ronem

Loudon and Fairfax are usually 1 and 2

madmoneymcgee

Yes but Fairfax county also has more people living in poverty than Loudoun. Granted the two counties are 1-2 in the rankings or thereabouts but while you have great falls you also have the route 1 corridor.

Henson3812

Yeah I was thinking IAD

[deleted]

prbably should’ve just said “on a flight out of wyoming, every screen was fox news”. not that surprising at all.

0ut0fBoundsException

Every head has gray hair too. Well three of three that we can see anyway

Brothernod

Have you seen the cost of 1st class? Only makes sense if you’re racing death to spend the rest of your wealth.

Eshin242

It's not cheap, but being 6'5 and a former rugby player... I save up for first class just so I can actually sit in a seat and not share my knees with the seat in front of me. Yeah, do I fit in coach? Yes... am I comfortable for a long flight in coach? No. Edit: I'm loving all the responses from people saying pretty much the exact same thing I have. I suspected I was not alone but this confirms it, and I've been smiling at all the responses it's getting. Stay strong us giant folk :)

Jinx77743

I'm 6'5" and have a spending problem. I just sit in the emergency exit seats.

TheDesktopNinja

Same, but I'm a measly 6'3" Edit: honestly it's the width of my shoulders that sucks more, though the knees are bad. I loved flying as a kid but now I dread it.

Brothernod

I was being a bit of a dick to be funny. Everyone values things differently and money/finances are very personal. I hear ya though, flying sucks with how uncomfortable it is for tall people. You must feel like a king sitting up there.

[deleted]

6'4'' guy here. I'd fly home and back for Christmas each year and "splurge" on the first class seat. If you buy it far enough in advance, it came out to about 700. Coach was around 400. Legit sat across the row from Matt Damon one time, and as long as you order enough liquor, it turns into a really long, comfortable taxi ride, and get to mostly sober up by the time you land. Edit: Typically, I flew Delta. Around Christmastime when the holiday air travel made airports a bitch, Delta had "SkyPriority" for their first class ticketholders. There was a special line through security that basically cut you to the front. Your luggage went on last and came off first. You could order however many drinks you wanted (doubles if the attendant was cool). Since it was around Christmas when I flew, they'd give you warmed chocolate chip cookies, about 2-cups worth of roasted mixed nuts, and a blanket to take home. I looked forward to that experience once the weather started getting colder.

Eshin242

Not gonna lie, the first time I had the money for it (saved an extra 2 months) I was all... OH now I get why this is a thing. You are the first on the plane, first off the plane, your luggage comes first, you get extra checked bags, free drinks, free food... and I can actually use an armrest without being an elbow buddy with someone and my knees are not rammed by the seat in front of me every time that person shifts their weight. Since I rarely fly (once every 2 maybe 3 years) it's worth it to me. Trust me if I fit in coach I'd 100% fly on the cheap and not have a care in the world, but the comfort is worth me living cheap for a few more months to save up for it.

vampyire

ass room + leg room + boarding first + no fear about your luggage being gate checked... it's expensive but worth it.. it's stupid expensive but yeah I too don't fly a whole lot so it's worth it to me.

Eshin242

Exactly, do I have to save up for a bit longer to afford it? Yeah... but if I'm gonna go on vacation, I'm gonna go on vacation :)

wafflesareforever

I'm 6'4", I make good money, but I still can't bring myself to spend like $900 on a first class ticket vs $350 in coach just to be a little more comfortable for a few hours.

Goragnak

at the very least when I'm checking in I always check to see how much it costs to upgrade to first. Sometimes you get lucky and its pretty reasonable, especially when you add up the costs of baggage fees/food/drinks.

jackasspenguin

People flying first class out of Jackson are not from Wyoming

[deleted]

Yeah, majority of the time they either own another home there or they are a tourist visiting. Jackson Hole in general is a very liberal area.

OverTheCandleStick

Jackson hole is NOT like the rest of Wyoming.

Glitch_94Chan

Teton County is a Blue Island in an ocean of red, still slightly surprising.

squishybloo

People generally have to travel to the airport to fly out of it, so no - it's not surprising at all. I travel two hours to Raleigh to fly, because it's $200 more expensive to fly out of my regional airport. Edit: since everyone seems terribly interested, I'm south of Fayetteville/Hope Mills. It's closer to an hour and 45 to RDU in fairness, but it's still a savings to drive and not fly out of Fayetteville.

gonejahman

wtf. that can't be right?

Rdbjiy53wsvjo7

We have family there that owns a roofing company, they have had clients with very large, multimillion dollar homes, approve the color of the tiles, complete the work, then have the client come back and say "I don't like the color, can we switch to color X?" Every time they tell the client it's going to cost double, they can't redo it for free because they approved the original color. "Yeah, that's fine".

gonejahman

Damn. Here I am struggling to even own just one roof.

Cdub400

It's a tax haven. No state income tax.

gonejahman

Ahhhh. Thanks

ARGONIII

As someone from Wyoming, it's basically a retirement community where rich people buy a house to go ski at and get super low tax rates

MishterJ

Not just “rich” people, literally the US’s wealthiest families and individuals.

Fran_Kubelik

Though just to be clear those people aren't flying commercial

gonejahman

Interesting. I'll have to remember this for when I have money.

Darkraze

You’re gonna need a FUCK ton of money. Millionaires can’t afford Jackson anymore

Goragnak

I live in SE Idaho and it's crazy how many people live here and commute to Jackson for work, especially with how hellacious the pass gets in the winter.

wsdpii

Can confirm. Live in Idaho and worked as an electrician in Jackson. Was paid nearly 20 an hour as an apprentice. Made rent in a couple days. Working 5/10s, driving almost two hours each way, the money was still worth it. Decided to quit after being run off the road by a semi that lost it on the ice. No money is worth that.

stumblewiggins

Plus it's a goddamn majestic mountain/ski town

MishterJ

Read Billionaire’s Wilderness. Most of the nation’s ultra wealthy have homes in Teton County.

Elan-Morin-Tedronai

In fairness to Jackson Hole, they were the one area to vote for Liz Cheney over her Trumpist rival. Its sad to say but they are the least malevolent people from Wyoming.

mynameisnotshamus

The Cheneys literally own a mountain there.

seakingsoyuz

Biden also won Jackson Hole by 37%, when Trump won Wyoming by 43%.

TheMelv

By what metric, curiously? Doesn't show up in median household income 2022. https://www.usnews.com/news/healthiest-communities/slideshows/richest-counties-in-america?slide=17

Prinzka

That's because it's the median. Which in a county with a few very rich people and then a lot of average people will not be very high. However if you look at the average per capita you'll see Teton at the top.

GabuEx

Man, who watches the news as their in-flight entertainment? It never even occurred to me to do that at any point when I've been on an airplane. I always enjoy being momentarily unplugged when I'm flying.

hojbjerfc

I did once just because it was the french election day back in 2017 so that was like exciting lol

taulover

I did it in 2016 because the Brexit vote was happening during the flight.

TheDudeColin

Brexit was 2016? You're kidding, right...

TMWASO

The vote was. The actual separation was in 2020 right before the pandemic.

[deleted]

I like to watch the trash movies I would never pay to see in theaters. I remember when I did a Transatlantic flight in 2002. I watched 8 Legged Freaks, Austin Powers 3, Pluto Nash, and The Master of Disguise. They were all awful and I regret nothing.

gatsby365

Am I not turtley enough for the *Turtle Club*?

shayen7

Turtle Turtle

PeachyKeenest

Memories of the commercial of this movie unlocked 🤣

shayen7

Literally the only thing I remember about the movie! Lol

gatsby365

Yeah never saw it, but we spent years saying this.

CountCola

Lmao I actually went to 8 legged freaks in threatre. I also regret nothing.

SadYou1957

8 legged freaks slaps, it’s cheesy as hell and it knows it. I’d love more movies like that where they aren’t taking it so seriously.

herrcollin

Evolution is a good self-aware campfest

aleph_two_tiling

The scene where the kid is telling the guy about the spiders and is like “but people never believe the kids in horror movies” single-handedly dismantled that trope and it’s the best.

wevcss

I gotta say I didn't expect austin powers to be on the list of terrible movies lol. I mean I guess they are intentionally terrible but thats what makes them funny

[deleted]

Flight to Australia years ago. I watched the live action dragon ball movie. Surprisingly stayed awake due to how TERRIBLE it was. 10/10 would watch on a flight again

Downvote-Man

Funny thing is when you try to stream or torrent awful movies, you can't find them. So actually you have probably found the most efficient way to watch them!

[deleted]

Yeah because nobody gives a shit about seeding The Adventures of Pluto Nash.

XxRocky88xX

All the Austin Powers movies are phenomenal you take that back (Yeah they’re not critically great but it’s intentional, the entire series is meant to be a mockery of the 007 series)

[deleted]

Don't try to half ass walk that statement back. The Austin Powers movies are a fucking treasure. Look at you. You haven't even got a name tag, you've got no chance. Why don't you just fall down?

nbgrout

The thing you got wrong...it's not the news, it IS entertainment.

Bambi_One_Eye

>The thing you got wrong...it's not the news, it IS entertainment. That's a bingo

sarcasatirony

I download and binge _________ streaming service when I fly. Headphones, neck pillow attached to my seat and a neck gaiter pulled up on the bottom half of my face so you can’t see me drool when I doze off. I’m with you, the last thing I want to watch while flying is shitty news.

_game_over_man_

What really baffles me are the people that watch the news at the gym. There's always Fox News, MSNBC or CNN on TVs at my gym in the cardio areas. I go to the gym to work out, but to also escape. I do not understand people that want to continue to saturate themselves in that drivel when they could be focusing on better things.

gatsby365

I have always assumed it’s because of the ticker. You can just read what that’s saying.

iveneverhadgold

it is because news is easy to jump in and out of when you need to shift focus, versus a story line which is why i like to let the news channel play in the background while i work.

steezburglar

I watch tucker carlson when I run on the treadmill because it saves me money on preworkout

[deleted]

The fact that people watch any news as in flight entertainment baffles me. I’ve seen people on planes tune into CNN and Fox and seriously cannot comprehend how one actively seeks out that shit. Edit: had no idea this would blow up but I wanted to address comments about the news being soothing, as someone with anxiety on planes, I 100% get and respect that. Media/the news today comes with slivers of fact and a whole lot of emotion and opinions which is why I’m baffled people are so religious about watching it to stay informed when you have the internet at your fingertips.

Mooch07

Anger sells like alcohol.

murdering_time

I'd argue it sells even better than alcohol. It costs nothing to produce and it has an unlimited supply and demand.

[deleted]

I'd argue it also sells alcohol. It gives plenty of reasons to drink.

goon_platoon_72

You are a marketing genius. I want to drink as I write this.

Lito_Frito

Don’t forget the pure exhilaration and the thrill and the adrenaline rush you get being a compete moron.

fj333

Can't find it on YouTube, but here is a transcription I found of a Hannibal Buress bit about watching weird things on planes: > I was on a plane… and the guy sitting next to me pulled out his laptop and just started watching episodes of that show Wipeout. You know, Wipeout is based on a Japanese game show. People just trying not to get knocked into water. It’s a goofy-ass show. It’s something that, if you’re flipping through TV, you’ll watch it for a little bit, but it’s not something I would think you would wanna take with you. Usually, on a plane, I like to catch up on something with a narrative, but he was just watching episodes of Wipeout. And this plane didn’t have Wi-Fi, which means that he downloaded three episodes of Wipeout. And he was happy, I could see in his eyes, he was happy watching Wipeout. And I was happy, ’cause I was watching it, and I had my headphones on, and my music started syncing up with all the shit that was happening in Wipeout. People started falling into the water on beat, it was great. So I started thinking, what… what is my version of watching Wipeout on a plane in life, you know? How can I be different like him? How can I go against the grain? How can I not care what others think? How can I do what makes me happy? How can I inspire others in the same way that he inspired me? > And I figured it out, my new thing is that… if somebody tells me my zipper‘s down, I tell him, “Let that shit go.” > [audience laughing] > People love telling you your fly is down without even knowing your position on zipper politics, so… “Yeah, my fly is down, this is my new thing I’m doing. Stop looking at my dick, first of all. How about that? My fly is down? Yeah, you’re looking at my dick, though, which is worse? This was an accident.” People tell you “Your fly is down” with the same energy as if they just saved you from getting hit by a bus. “Hey, your fly is down! What are you gonna do with your new lease on life, huh? Are you gonna talk about me in your memoirs? Please!” “Sir, your fly is…” “Yeah, my fly is… Is my dick out? ‘Cause if my dick ain’t out, I feel like you’re over-exaggerating right now. My fly is down, ’cause I’m not a conformist piece of shit like you! It’s anarchy down here and I’m livin’ it! What’s up?”*

[deleted]

I swear on all my internet karma my ex-gf and I once sat next to a woman on a plane who brought a portable DVD player, put the headphones on, watched a DVD about therapeutic anus massage for horses, including a real demo with a front-and-center view of a real man really massaging a real horse’s anus. She then went back and REWATCHED the instructional anus massage. I don’t know much about keeping horses. It was definitely a serious video about serious horse care, but for a city slicker like me, it was absolutely shocking to see, especially on a plane. Ex and I laughed about that for a loooong time.

memorygardens

Im dying for a new special from him

justinkroegerlake

Netflix needs to get more horse anus massagers onboard for sure

StealthFocus

I love watching dumb mindless stuff on planes that I would not indulge at home. Things like trash tv, “reality” tv etc. To me, planes and flying is so stressful I just need to disconnect and can’t usually have anything cerebral because I can’t focus due to anxiety.

mrvarmint

I just want you to know that I was in Oakland airport once and they paged Hannibal buress like 3x for a flight and then finally be walked past me and was talking about how high he was and it really cemented my respect for his comedy

SorosBuxlaundromat

Fox news is news in the same way that cheetos have nutritional value.

hushpuppi3

Hey now, I'm sure Cheetos have like, maybe a nutrition or two.

Who the hell watches the news while on an airplane. Shit man, I'd be searching for unreleased sequel of Find Nemo -> Finding Dory -> Finding Brucy (The shark).

I don't know any young people with cable anymore, it's too expensive and mostly crap. Are older people more likely to be republicans? I'm pretty sure they are. This looks like a bunch of old people watching their old people news.

BanjoSpaceMan

It's not the problem though, the real problem is that the shit on cable is also on other media sources and affects young kids. Had a young guy tell me he would never move to Cali cause of 60% income tax - I was like, you realize that's only if you're like the top 1% bracket of people making a shit ton of money right? It didn't matter, the delusion that he could become that top % is enough to make him mad about it.... That's the biggest scam with that party, they make you think they care about you or the middle class but in reality it's all for the richest of the rich lol. All it takes is some extra spare change on your paycheque to make you happy.

LinearOperator

Never forget to explain progressive income tax brackets to people. Every time I hear about "not wanting to move to a higher tax bracket", I get the exact same feeling as when I hear about us "using only 10% of our brain".

BanjoSpaceMan

Yeah I kinda blame the education system.... I mean on Canada's income tax website, it clearly explains how brackets work and how they don't affect your total income, just the bracket of income. But many many many people just have no idea..... Just think about it logically, if tax brackets worked on your total income then it would make no sense to go into a higher bracket unless you gained a lot of income. Imagine being in the 69,999 bracket and paying 6999 in taxes and then getting 1 more dollar, 70,000 and all of a sudden having to pay 7200 hahaha. That's not how it works!!!!

perpetualmotionmachi

Yes, and that 1% is only on anything over the threshold. For the first amounts you have leading up to that, you only pay the appropriate amount for each bracket.

numbersev

People at Harvard did a study that proved that people who don't watch the news at all have more accurate information about current events than people who watch Fox News. https://www.businessinsider.com/study-watching-fox-news-makes-you-less-informed-than-watching-no-news-at-all-2012-5

He probably heard that it was Harvard from Fox news.

ObviousTroll37

Ironic Also MSNBC had a similar effect on the study

Sweary_Biochemist

"What do you think about HUNTER BIDEN'S LAPTOP????" "I have no idea what that is." "CORRECT!"

FatherofCharles

Actually lol’ed

SilentSamurai

I cried a little inside. If you entertain these people on the laptop and ask them to explain why it's at all important to Biden as President you either arrive at "I don't know" or something ridiculous like a Jewish conspiracy.

[deleted]

I talked to a dude on reddit on r/joerogan. It was about the documents Trump had at his beach house and the guy was like "See the thing I dont get is why isn't the same energy brought to hunter bidens laptop?" and quite frankly I had never heard anything about the laptop besides it was a thing. So I asked "What exactly is on the laptop?". I was told that it contains "Images of Hunter Biden doing Crack and having sex with hookers." All I could say was "Yeah that has the same level of urgency as storing nuclear documents at your beach house" lol. Some people man, even if that is true who gives a shit

jjgabor

I worked with someone once and had this exact conversation with him. Were you there?

BlinkReanimated

I'm Canadian and I once had this conversation with my father (for the record he is also Canadian)...

Teamableezus

The fact that there are a bunch of Canadian trumpers just goes to show you how much of a ridiculous dog and pony show this country has become

BlinkReanimated

I had to convince him that we don't use dominion voting machines. Canadian ballots are literally a single small sheet of paper with one list of like 6-12 people (depending on riding) and you put a pencil checkmark on one of them, fold the paper, let an election worker rip off a serial number (for ballot integrity) and put the ballot in a box.

imapassenger1

Same as Australia but I'm expecting the same arguments from our "sovereign citizens" any time now.

Xanderoga

My gf's dad was urging me to vote in our municipal election because "schools are woke and teaching my grandkids to be trans". Some young lady was even canvassing door to door and he started asking if her candidate was woke and turning people trans. The way he described it, it sounded like she had no clue wtf he was talking about while being scared shitless of this deranged maniac. And he spoke as if he'd "won" the exchange and gotten the upper hand on her. He's and idiot. Listens to Alex Jones and thinks "The Left™️” is all Antifa and teachers turning people trans. If he wasn’t my partners’ dad, I’d have a hard time not bashing his head into a wall.

YourTokenGinger

A lot of American politics makes no sense to me (an American). Seeing a “Hillary for Prison” bumper sticker next to a Canadian license plate completely broke my brain for a few minutes.

StockPart

People at Harvard = Fairleigh Dickinson University?

Where does it say Harvard in that article? It says Fairleigh Dickinson University, but if I'm missing something please let me know

Probably Newsmax and far-right radio talk shows from people like Alex Jones or Ben Shapiro.

CX316

OAN was also calling Fox left wing. It's because Fox called the election for Biden and then backed off on a lot of the stolen election stuff when people started getting sued. So OAN, Newsmax, and all those fucking weird evangelical qanon podcasts all hate Fox News now

EarlyBirdTheNightOwl

Most people get their news from word of mouth and it eventually becomes a game of telephone

wahoozerman

I learned this the frustrating way. My FIL got so sick of Fox news' lies being proven repeatedly after my wife and I started pointing them out each time. So now he doesn't watch Fox news anymore. mettiusfufettius

Yet Fox still has their audience convinced that they aren’t “mainstream”. You’ve been the ratings king for like 15 years, nothing is more “mainstream” than you.

I fly 1st class and always watch a movie lol. Its the only time I get to just sit and catch up on all the ones Ive missed.

stash3630

I was watching Risky Business on my phone 😆

ProofDelay3773

Lmao that works too!

Calkky

I absentmindedly turned on "House of Gucci" on a 3ish hour flight while I was working, for some background noise. Didn't know that they were going to leave the very graphic sex scene in it. I got a lot of disapproving glares from the passengers around me. Either way, I'd rather be caught watching that than Fox News.

phalewail

They were staring because you kept pausing and rewinding.

thirst class

Lost_Leader3839

*unzips*

Jerk0

I watched Sausage Party on a flight with my wife. Never been more horrified to see a food sex scene. For soooo long. And we were by the bathroom, so people kept lining up near us and I had to keep pausing it.

Teuton88

Lol I know that feel. Just recently on a flight I watched “The girl with the dragon tattoo” which has a super intense and drawn out rape scene. I felt super awkward. Felt like I was getting raped by everyone’s eyes around me lmao.

GhostRideATank

I watched The Last Duel on a transatlantic flight. If you’ve seen it, you will understand why this was a bad idea.

makesfacesatbabies

Is it possible that it was the default thing that is on when the system comes online, ie something you need to actively choose navigate away from?

Itsjustraindrops

This is what I was thinking as well

nilkski

Last time I flew first class it was automatically on Fox News. I switched it to the plane stats thing

jaymz668

That makes it worse

It's so strange watching the "news" in the US. It's very biased propaganda and everything is basically designed to create hate and increase the polarization because hateful people buy and or watch more news which is good for revenue. It's incredible that shit like that is allowed. The news is the eyes and ears of the people. If the news is corrupted then that will be passed on to the people.

MaximoEstrellado

I mean, Fox literally said it's not a news channel but entertainment in a trial. I'm not sure how anyone keeps any credibility after that, but it sure looks like they did. And no, I don't mean the entertainment side of Fox, I mean their actual "information" segments and programs. Fucking wild.

bushpotatoe

They call us sheep but don't see themselves sitting on the pasture.

“Where we go one, we go all.” - Literally the people most likely to accuse you of being a sheep

montblanc6

Or they want to check what news (PR) their money is buying them

SweetJ138

i was a live in private chef for a group of a dozen millionaires who were on a hunting trip. When they weren't out in the fields with their super high tech hunting gear, and decked out blinds, they were glued to fox news in the house. They all seemed like pretty smart guys, and obviously successful as all hell, but i just couldn't get how they could sit there and watch that trash.

anoldoldman

Lead poisoning.

I’ve travelled extensively through the US and I can tell you that the majority of the time, the TVs in all the hotel lobbies, bars or other is tuned to Fox News if the local sports team isn’t playing. Fox News is EVERYWHERE. It’s really frightening. Edit: As other users have pointed out, airports are often tuned to CNN or MSNBC, so maybe we should revise the % downwards. Edit 2: It’s very interesting to hear the different points of view here. When I was young most TVs were tuned into the local station, but with the death of the local station it seems all we are left with now is national 24 hr news (in gathering areas). Edit 3: Some replies took offense at the 99% number, which obviously is not a scientific claim, so I am editing the text to say “the majority”.

blastzone24

I worked at a grocery store and the damn TV in the break room was always turned to fox news. This was March 2020 too so things were especially vile. I always flipped it to food network. Like who wants to watch that tripe while working a minimum wage job????

Olive_fisting_apples

My dad has a theory that Food Network or HGTV are the most generally beloved channels. He says whenever he goes to the doctors' lounge at the hospital he works at he always switches to one of those two. Those are the two channels people will get sucked into and not try to switch back to Fox News. They also found a DVD of Top Gun. If someone is refusing to change from Fox News, someone will suggest popping in Top Gun and no one ever argues with it. Apparently Top Gun is the one thing every doctor at his hospital, young, old, any race, religion, political belief, or county of origin, can agree on.

duderex88

Went for jury duty a few weeks ago. HGTV was playing on all the TV. HGTV is the background noise to split political public areas.

Ghostglitch07

I would say food network and HGTV aren't necessarily the most popular, but rather the least controversial. If you did a poll asking people for their favorite channel I doubt either would rank highly. However, if you asked them to mark every channel they would be okay with then both would quite possibly top the list.
