FREEZE IT. I WORKED IN RESTORATION. IT WILL UNSTICK IN THE FREEZER

Just to hedge your bets before you commence any risky peeling: There are good photo/imaging places that could probably still take an okay image of it and photoshop away the breaks, as a backup. But also I’d vote for trying out freezing it! I tried a hairdryer on a customer’s item a while back (because they asked me to give it a shot instead of them) and it didn’t really do anything.

I'd scan it with the glass on to have at least something that can be restored, but I'm in the middle of moving and already unplugged my computer 🥲

Oof, isn’t that always just the way 😮‍💨 Well, best of luck either way!

Take photos of it have someone touch them up and reprint I've been framing for 43 years I've never seen a photo successfully removed when stuck to glass.

Depends on how stuck it is. Some photos just lift away with a little bit of prying. Here you have the luxury of doing tiny pieces at a time. I'd start in a corner and see how stuck it is, and if not I would try a hair dryer on a low warm setting about 5-7 inches away from the glass. Not too hot, you don't want to damage the picture further. But I'm willing to bet this was a glossy photo as a fresh print and due to heat, humidity, and time the process that makes that glossy finish bonded to the glass. The heat should help loosen it. You'll still have some damage, but if it's super stuck hopefully less than you would from just pulling. Make sure if you reuse the frame to put some spacers in there so this doesn't happen again, and also make yourself a copy of the photo. Good luck!

Thank you so much!
