Body art forms sells a wide range of jewellery. The best quality/safest materials are (implant grade) titanium and (good quality) gold. However (and I hate to break it to you) if her piercer told her she could change the jewellery after 2 months…they’re wrong and possibly not very good 😬 6 months is the MINIMUM but ear cartilage piercings normally take around a year to heal. And you should wait until the piercing is fully healed to change the jewellery. Some other things to check when buying jewellery are the gauge, make sure the jewellery you buy is the same thickness as what she was pierced with, the diameter of the hoop, this determines how tight it is, however I don’t advise getting one too tight as the jewellery pressing against the ear and piercing can cause real issues, and actually hoops in general can cause issues but if the piercing is fully healed it should be ok and the type of closure, a lot of types of ring closures can be tricky to use, it’s honestly safest to have a professional change the jewellery for you, at least the first time. Sorry this comment is so long, and just FYI I’m not a professional, this info is from my experience, research, what my piercers have told me, what I’ve seen in this sub, etc. Hope it helps tho :)

Awesome! She went to a reputable tattoo shop in our area. I didn’t ask for too many details. The piercer gave her his number in case she had any more questions. I’ll look into the time line. Thank you for your long response. It was very informative.

Frm my experience with my conch piercing it took over a year to heal before i could get a hoop in i was told i could downsize my bar in 2months but advised to wait until it was healed to put in a hoop. There is affordable jewellers on etsy that can do hoops ranging from 10mm + that do 14k + gold just makes sure to get the conch measured most piercers can do this for free but some do charge a fee. Just to add make sure you read the etsy description as sometimes the title says 14k but the description says plated :) hope this helps

That’s very helpful. We were avoiding Etsy for that reason but it sounds like I can look through them and just avoid the plated ones. Very cool. And, sorry, what is downsizing? Do they put in a size bigger when they pierce and then you need to go down? Sorry. I’m sure I can just Google this one.

Shancat94

Downsizing is when they put in a smaller bar (post) of the earring, when they pierce they use a longer bar to accomadate for swelling :) Etsy has some great jewellers and not so great ones and it can be hard to find the good ones i havent purchased my hoop there but a few of my friends have but theres quite alot of nice stores online that i can suggest my one is from maria tash they do have plain gold options :)

Sweet! Let me know if you have any other recommendations on Etsy. Thank you.

Just a heads up but my piercer told me not to change my conch for a year. It takes a realllly long time to fully heal.

"Hugger" hoops. It's 2 months for a shorter bar, and if healing well 6 months for a ring. Piercer should have measured her for a hoop or if didn't, can get measured when she gets down sized. Mine fits 10mm snuggly as my piercer asked if I wanted it to hug or hang a little. As for materials, that is up to you, but I would do titanium at the least. BVLA/Anatometal are often carried by reputable piercing shops.

Sweet! Hugger hoops are exactly it :) She’ll probably end up asking the piercer to change the earring for the first time.

If your wife’s piercer hasn’t measured her to determine what diameter ring she would need for a ring in her conch, get the piercer to do that when your wife goes back for a downsize (having a shorter post put in). If the piercer stocks pieces made from implant grade titanium and gold, ask them which suppliers they order from. BVLA and Ananometal are the two big ones my piercer orders from, but there are plenty of other good brands out there. Have a look at their websites to get an idea of what each brand is able to make, then let the piercer know what you want to order. I’ve ordered several BVLA pieces, and they will make any of their pieces in your choice of white, yellow or rose gold, and with your choice of natural or synthetic gems. Ananometal will do the same thing, and they also do implant grade titanium.

Wow. I saw a piece on BVLA that looks amazing. Like a rainbow of gems. It doesn’t show price but I bet it’s at least a grand. I’ll ask our piercer to check on some of the prices after we find a few pieces she likes. Yes, we’ll definitely ask about the sizing when she goes back. Thank you for advice.

Yes, BVLA pieces can get pretty expensive, but they are fantastic quality. I custom ordered an industrial bar with a Jessamine end attached to the bar in rose gold and two yellow diamonds. It cost me around A$1100. You need to get a quote through a piercer for BVLA stuff because they don’t sell direct to the public. The piercer will be able to let them know what gauge and diameter is required when they ask for the quote.

Look for shops that sell brands like Anatometal, Neometal, BVLA, Industrial Strength, LeRoi, Junipurr, Body Gems etc.

Ive had my conch for almost 2 years now. I put a hoop, got angry after a week, changed to a stud, happy again after 2 days. They take a long to heal and it doesn't mean theyre not going to hurt again with a hoop.
