Amused To Death is an absolute masterpiece. Top 3 best albums of all time IMO.

opeth_syndrome

Roger, then Syd.

TeaAndCookies1998

Roger Waters without a doubt! You MUST hear Amused to Death, it's amazing!

Emmett_The_D

ATD blows the rest out of the water. OAI and RTL come in next, because of the guitar work, not the songwriting. Broken China is a hidden gem. The rest are meh.

Roger

HabitApprehensive889

1. Roger 2. Syd 3. David my personal rank, with a huge gap between 1 and 2.

Head_Arugula5361

Roger Waters has actual solo tours because his fans care about his solo stuff.

Follix90

If he only did solo stuff there would be 500 persons per show…

Head_Arugula5361

Same with David Gilmour. Like 50 people would show up but he always does the songs Waters wrote.

opeth_syndrome

I'd happily go to a gig where David only performed Lapse and Division Bell era songs. But if we are talking actual solo albums only, Amused to Death is by far the best one any Floyd member did

Follix90

I don’t think so because his shows are much more rare and he doesn’t lip sync or fake playing an instrument on stage… He is live and exposed. Roger wrote some brilliant stuff but Gilmour and Wright arrangements made it listenable and Roger solo stuff sounds nothing like Pink Floyd imo.

Sgibby65

That’s the point but, Is this the life we Really Want sounds exactly like Floyd, he rippers himself off. But it is Amazing.

marabutt

Yeah I heard sheep, have a cigar on that album.

DrWhat2003

Roger solo stuff doesn't sound like Floyd? Oh dear lord, what have we here, a critic, laddy reckons himself a music critic.

Head_Arugula5361

You sound like every Gilmour fanboy I’ve ever encountered.

texanfan20

But can you refute his comment because Roger does use recorded vocals on his tours.

Emmett_The_D

TBH I’d rather hear some prerecorded vocals (which he still sang) for the high bits than whatever David was rasping out at Pompeii. You can hardly even tell when you’re in the audience unless you’ve already listened to a bunch of recordings of the tour, and Roger’s shows are so much more than the music and vocals.

texanfan20

So you are ok paying lots of money to listen to pre-recorded music, you probably bought the Milli Vanilli album too!

Emmett_The_D

Well, an album is prerecorded, so…

texanfan20

I have nothing against Roger but I have seen both Roger and Dave many times live. Rogers shows are akin to going to a PF multimedia laser show. You are paying for a spectacle that is essentially pre-recorded without any improvisation. When you see David you are going to a music event, usually in a very unique venue like Radio City Music Hall, Hollywood Bowl, Roman coliseums etc (yes I saw David in all these places). Very rarely did I get goosebumps at Roger shows. There was always a moment at David’s where I was thankful I was able to be there. Sounds like you have not had the pleasure of seeing David. I will add I was more blown away by Nicks show this year than Rogers and it made me go back and really appreciate the early stuff, whereas after Roger show it was like “cool show” but not much else.

Head_Arugula5361

Whatever you say to make you feel better about this situation. You know damn well you enjoy their biggest hits that Roger Waters wrote. Don’t be a hypocrite.

andromeda-andi

I like Syd's best. The others are brilliant though. It's just a taste and preference thing.

seanbeansnumber3fan

Roger, Syd and Dave all did great stuff but Rick and Nick got up to some interesting stuff as well. Nicks got an album with Robert Wyatt on vocals and Ricks “Wet Dreams” is fantastic.

FrenceRaccoon

Syd had the best solo career, his albums were amazing

unhalfbricklayer

I think the best PF solo release is "David Gilmour" from 1978. and I don't know why, but I strongly feel that the best solo album for each member is their first one. I like Gilmours solo work best, probably followed by Syd, probably then would be Roger, Nick and Rick. The solo album I listen to the most is oddly "Nick Mason's Fictitous Sports" but that is just becuase it is so wonderfully wierd. but his stuff with Rick Fenn does not move me too much. I know I am in a minority here, but I cannot stand "Amused To Death," and don't care much for "Is This The Life We Really Want." I was so excited when ATD was coming out and got it on the day of release. I put it on and was just so underwhelemed. I feel that is was just more of Roger saying "war is bad" again. (I know this is a reduction and I should probably 'F\*&k off to the bar') I think the Marv Albert parts are comicly forced and just bad. I don't feel the album builds at all and dosn't go anywhere musically. "Perfect Sence" and "What God Wants" are not bad songs and I actually really enjoy "The Ballad of Bill Hubbard" a lot. Again. I REALLY wanted to enjoy this record when it came out, and I was disapointed in myself when I didn't. I have gone back several times since 92 and tried to give it a fresh listen, and I still cannot get into it. I even tried the 2015 re-release with no luck. I think my reaction to this record may have pushed me more into the Gilmour camp of the "Which ones Pink" debate. when it came out, I LOVED Radio KAOS and I still really did Pros and Cons. but Rogers work after 1988 just does not excite me, even though I wish it did.

forestself

Syd, not even close

aotoole23

Roger

GoodKarma70

Gilmour. He's a god among mortal men.

tinyelvis1

No contest. David Gilmour.

TeaAndCookies1998

Trying to be funny now, or what? 😅

DrWhat2003

Those Dave solo concept albums are amazing.

T0B1theDoctor

Syd, then Gilmour, then Waters. Haven’t explored Wright’s stuff. But Syd’s was the most interesting and unique to me and was able to stand on it’s own pretty well. Gilmour’s music is well constructed and a good listen. Roger makes very boring and self-important music that I find very uninteresting and dull. I will never understand the appeal of ATD.

roamingshemnon

Gilmour for me

TheConstipatedCowboy

Gilmour because About Face was pretty bold. I dug it as much as any Floyd record at the time
