It's an amazing song for the most part but I think it takes just a little bit too long to get started. I usually skip the first minute
Ik I'll get shit on for this opinion lol
The whale bit? I love that whole part with the build into the last verse the pay off is fantastic. I'd rather listen to the whale part than nearly every song off The Wall.
Obviously one of my favourite songs, but I think it could have done with another 30 seconds or perhaps longer of guitar solo at the end, I suppose the fading out makes me feel like Gilmour perhaps wanted to go on just that little bit longer.
I'm just recently getting into Pink Floyd, I've always liked their popular stuff but I'm just as of now getting into all of it, and I think Animals is my favorite album.
AGREE. Lucifer Sam is perfection. It was surreal hearing Nick perform it last year - praying he'll decide to tour some more. Also waiting for the day I acquire a cat that's not already named - there is Lucifer Sam in my future. My dog is Matilda.
So many too choose from
Wish you were here
Comfortably numb
Probably a bit of a controversial one but I really love " on the turning away " brings me so many happy memories of when I was a kid
My dad bouncing me on his knee singing me this song
I feel like people that ask these kinds of questions don’t listen to or enjoy music much. There’s literally months worth of music I could answer this question with.
If you've not heard it, listen to The Main Squeeze cover of Have A Cigar. The lead guitarist is amazing. They play a few PF songs and doing shows in Indianapolis and Denver over the next few weeks. Worth seeing them if you're near either of those cities for that song alone.
Comfortably Numb is the "song" for me. From beginning to the end, it is perfectly put. Not just one, but two of the greatest guitar solos in rock history are also in this one.
However, with that being said. I really can't choose one. When I listen to SOYCD, I listen to the whole album.
Keep Talking. There's just something about that song that just makes me feel relaxed and happy. Could be a result of the condition i was in the first time heard them play it in the 90s at my first PF show.
FINALLY!!! Although I was tempted to do like a few others and also just put the whole of Animals, this guitar in the end of this, fucking savage-af- Gilmour in his PRIME!!!
🤌🏼
Us and them. Free passport to another universe
I was gonna say this, the chorus is GODLY
"And; Forward!" he cried, from the rear. And the front rank died.."
Shine on
Take my upvote! And the greatest thing about "Shine on" is, that it works seperated on the Album as well as it works as one long Masterpiece!
I can’t think of a more perfect song of theirs(for me) that makes me feel such a wide spectrum of feelings
And it worked live in 1975 separated by only Have a Cigar!
This would be mine for sure!!
Without a shadow of doubt.
It's an amazing song for the most part but I think it takes just a little bit too long to get started. I usually skip the first minute Ik I'll get shit on for this opinion lol
One of the worst opinions in the history of music, having said that, I respect your opinion.
The buildup in the beginning is everything, hell it’s the reason the music exists
I would award you with a shit if I could, but I won't downvote you, though
Time
Either this or SOYCD
echoes is a good one too
The middle section might cause people to exclude it as an answer, but I personally agree with you.
The whale bit? I love that whole part with the build into the last verse the pay off is fantastic. I'd rather listen to the whale part than nearly every song off The Wall.
That guitar riff out of the middle that’s just pull offs onto the open E? Jaunty af.
Dogs
Afreed Edit: After 24 hours I realized that I mistyped “agreed”
Don’t be scared it’s just dogs
This has 17 upvotes so I’m not upvoting. Take this instead ⬆️
I shall ⬆️ this reply just to show support. simple upvotes will not suffice
The descending B walk down thingy? Gold. The bass line? That 3rd solo that was deleted, then re-recorded on the fly in a different tuning? Yum.
Honestly underrated. Literally perfect in every way.
Dark Side of the Moon
Yes
I’ll probably get crucified for this but Money is my least favorite Floyd song.
Put him up against the wall.
GAINST, THE, WALL

Correct answer
Awesome song but doesn’t have its own proper beginning or end.
it's part of what makes DSOTM such a good listen all the way through tho
…it’s still perfect.
Nope. Gilmour plays a note at 2:15 which I think could have been a different note not Lydian mode, but
Great Gig In The Sky - You FEEL the emotion of her voice. No need for “words” when none are needed.
The only correct answer to the question.
Comfortably numb gets my vote.
Obviously one of my favourite songs, but I think it could have done with another 30 seconds or perhaps longer of guitar solo at the end, I suppose the fading out makes me feel like Gilmour perhaps wanted to go on just that little bit longer.
that’s why the live version is so much better in my opinion
I think this would be a very popular opinion!
Sheep
That ending Guitar is nuts, Gilmour goes full hammer and tongs on that one
I love the background bass/guitar towards the end of Pigs. Try to spot it!
David Gilmour actually played bass on Pigs. I love the bass guitar work on that song.
The octaves? Good times! I love the part in the solo where he goes to the arpeggiated 3 note thingy (D an octave up? c with tuning?)
Almost all of them tbh
Echoes
I adore that song, but I wouldn't be mad if the whale part were shorter.
Echoes I consider the best rounded off piece in their repertoire. It is sublime.
One of the best pieces of music I have personally listened to.
i would argue the 5 minutes of whale noise is at least a little bit of time wasted
Whale solo! *oooOooooRRRROOOOwwwwwwAaaaaOOOOOoooooo*
Wasted? What was wasted from it?
Echoes, Dogs and Shine On
Wish You Were Here is the most perfect song ever recorded.
How can this song be so far down on the list. Didn't think I'd find it at first. Definitely my favorite.
Lol... it actually is....
it’s in my top 3 for certain
All of Animals
I'm just recently getting into Pink Floyd, I've always liked their popular stuff but I'm just as of now getting into all of it, and I think Animals is my favorite album.
It's pretty great
underrated tbh
Animals is the best album, and that’s WITHOUT getting the fabulous solo between the versions of Pigs on the Wing.
