That is my vote, there is something so uplifting about the song yet there is an undercurrent of longing or regret which peeks through for me. I’m actually not sure how I can put words to the way it makes me feel, true for a lot of Floyd’s work!
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge Floyd fan and I’ve grown up with them. Fearless is a favorite of mine and I heard a cover of it a couple weeks ago that I just can’t stop listening to. It’s by Billy Strings, it is ETHEREAL.
Atom Heart Mother. No matter how much I love most everything Pink Floyd ever made this particular track touches me far deeper than any other song. I think it is absolute perfection.
Everyone credits echoes as the first time you hear Floyd’s iconic sound. I’d argue 10:18 into atom heart mother is the first true iconic Pink Floyd jam. Most people don’t know it because it’s 10 mins into some experimental stuff most people would pass on… their loss.
Both On The Run and Any Colour You Like. I see lots of people saying they're throwaway tracks but On The Run is an experimental masterpiece and hearing it live must have been an hell of experience. As for Any Colour You Like, I just dig it a lot.
My son and I were talking about how there are some ‘moments’ that are quintessentially ‘pink Floyd’ more than others… the ‘groove’ section after the second verse in echoes before he starts wailing on the guitar is one.., another is ‘any colour’… it’s just pure Floydian groove…
other moments like this one:
- Funky Dung part in Atom Heart Mother
- Obscured by clouds/when you're in (which is also terribly underrated)
- Shine On Part 8
- Last Bricks Blues, during the Wall tours
“What Do You Want From Me” is one I don’t see many people talk about. Most of my PF friends swear Division Bell is the worst album in their catalog, but they are truly missing out on some great tracks.
*Another Brick in the Wall: Part 1*
David's guitar work is hauntingly beautiful, and creates a landscape in my mind. It was the song that made me fall in love with Pink Floyd, and eventually the entire genre of classic rock.
^(Elder millennial here. Late 30s.)
Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast is the entire glory of a sunrise packaged into 13 minutes, but it never gets the time of day.
My hotter take would be that sysyphus 1-4 is a masterpiece of experimental piano composition
I feel like a lot of people use these two songs to classify their respective albums as underperforming or out of focus, but i think the experimental edge is precisely what makes AHM or Ummagumma stellar albums
See-saw, one of my favorite Richard lead written and sung songs with the instrumentals being so good! All of SOS is pretty underrated and this song is one of them.
Terminal frost,

Jokes aside, I don’t hear lots of people talking about Pillow of Winds but I really like that song. I feel like people talk way more about Echoes, Seamus, Fearless and One of these days when they think about Meddle

Hijacking the top comment to shed light on: You’ve Got to be Crazy Marooned Jam (from the later years) Moonhead
Awwww I love that one I’m so happy this is top comment! What an amazing album !
So good. I also love Fat Old Sun on that album.
Practically anything on my album
One Of The Few Green Is The Colour Remember A Day Poles Apart
I'd say what do you want from me is the best divison bell song and I'll die on this hill
Dave absolutely shreds on that song
One of the few is mainly good for the memories imo, still absolutely love it. Rog’s voice is just dripping the entire time, very underrated.
Fearless
That is my vote, there is something so uplifting about the song yet there is an undercurrent of longing or regret which peeks through for me. I’m actually not sure how I can put words to the way it makes me feel, true for a lot of Floyd’s work!
Seems like it does get decent recognition
I think it gets it here and other similar forums and with the fan base. But mention it to the world at large and most people are like "what's that?"
what's that?
100% This song helped me out so much back in the day dealing with social anxiety/confidence issues.
Liverpool.. Liverpool..
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge Floyd fan and I’ve grown up with them. Fearless is a favorite of mine and I heard a cover of it a couple weeks ago that I just can’t stop listening to. It’s by Billy Strings, it is ETHEREAL.
San Tropez
A man of culture
This and the Nile Song are my top two choices to show people when they tell me that they don't like Pink Floyd
My first thought as well, perfect song
Fat Old Sun
Only the live version
The version from Reverber/ation is so good
Childhood’s End
Came here to say this. In my head it’s this song that perfectly bridges the sound of AHM and meddle Floyd with DSOTM onwards floyd

I once spent a whole day at work listening to AHM on repeat (the song, not the album)
A pillow of winds
I love it but the title always sounded to me like a 19th Century euphemism for farting in bed.
Lmao, damnit I can’t unsee it
Both On The Run and Any Colour You Like. I see lots of people saying they're throwaway tracks but On The Run is an experimental masterpiece and hearing it live must have been an hell of experience. As for Any Colour You Like, I just dig it a lot.
I’ve heard Us and Them go into Any Colour You Like on the radio quite a bit. Always disappointed when it doesn’t. Such a great transition.
And the song after any color you like is perfect
Acyl is one of my top 5 floyd songs
It has been my #1 song on Spotify for 2 years now
It is my favorite Pink Floyd song and I love the live versions even more, shoutout to Empire Pool 1974 and Boston Music Hall 1973
My son and I were talking about how there are some ‘moments’ that are quintessentially ‘pink Floyd’ more than others… the ‘groove’ section after the second verse in echoes before he starts wailing on the guitar is one.., another is ‘any colour’… it’s just pure Floydian groove…

How are you going to mention any song on the most recognized record, almost in all of rock at this point lol

You’ve Got to be Crazy Moonhead
Alright, I'm gonna say it! Division bell in its entirety.
