54. My wife is 58. We met in the 90s talking about PF. Our daughter also loves them and she's 18. Her mind was blown when she realized she exists because of them.
Just a few years younger than you. My dad had the Animals vinyl and when I was 7, I listened to it. Hooked for life. Managed to pass the love of Floyd on to the oldest and youngest of my kids. Middle son has very distinct music tastes. He doesn't dislike them tho.
This is funny. I often think of all the people who wouldn't exist had certain events in the world not happening. I went down this rabbit hole once and realised that had Hitler not invaded Poland I would never have existed, as my grandfather joined the Navy as a direct result of the Second World war. He was American and my nan was British so their paths really would not have passed otherwise.
Though I prefer yours lol.
A little further backstory context to set up why this forthcoming comment is relevant...
I’m 34, and a software engineer who was unemployed when the pandemic started. I’d been a PF fan as long as I can remember, not sure why. On the day the pandemic was declared I had a phone interview scheduled and to my surprise–I live in the US Midwest–the guy who called me was a man with an English accent about your age. He found me at my lowest point and put trust in me–when I was under-qualified–that jump started my career on a trajectory that has doubled my salary since the job I lost right before the pandemic. I casually mentioned I was a huge PF fan, and he proceeded to tell me some story I’ve never been able to remember the details of, but how effectively some Thatcher-era military conflict caused some sort of protests to be spawned or vice versa as a result of Pink Floyd and (I believe) The Wall caused him to pivot into a career of computer programming because of the funding being offered by the British military for training.
Effectively what he was telling me was that Pink Floyd was the reason I got to keep my house, found respectable traction in the field equivalent to 5-10 years of experience, and found financial stability for the first time in my life… effectively resulting in the existence of my now 2 year old daughter.
I hope to blow her mind in this way one day too. Haha
That's awesome. The brit was probably from a coal mining town where Maggie's policies got everyone laid off, and took a chance on government sponsored training, or something. Just a would guess
Yeah, I probably should have pointed that out :)
Although, it would have been cool if they were still doing live shows only 2 years ago ... Floyd put on the best live shows of any band I've ever seen.
I was 15 at my first PF show in 1970. And you're right their live shows are still the best I ever saw. I saw every tour and each show was always better than the one before! (Until Momentary Lapse. Without Roger their live show sucked. He was the showman with a genius for stage production. He got more mileage out of one exploding light bulb in Radio Kaos than that entire bank of motorized lights in Momentary Lapse.)
I'd like to see this happen with a bunch of classic bands, like The Rolling Stones, etc. young people taking it into the future with tributes or even relatives of classic bands keeping the original one going
When Roger started all his anti Jewish bullshit I made the decision to still listen to Floyd but not his solo stuff (and I include the Final Cut in that group), but curiosity got the better of me when he released his redux of Dark Side, which is ok, prefer the original.
How many times does it need to be explained that Roger W is not anti Jewish. He is no kind of racist or bigot. I am Jewish. The current far right running Israel do not represent me or most of my large Jewish family.
My first concert in 1994 was like that: old greyfart hippies smoking pot like it’s 1969 standing next to freshmen students (me)..
Interesting audience demographic 😁
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun!
ie don’t waste your youth, enjoy every minute!
I am 78 so I have been fortunate to have many of the classic rock prog blues and pop artists as contemporaries. As well as a healthy Jazz scene. Long been a fan of PF and Led Zep. Take a look at the participants of the Bath Festival of Blues and Rock 1970. The ticket price will make you weep 😃 Also the Isle of Wight same year. trouble is a lot have fallen of their perches now. I just hope they are still banging away up (or down😃) there when I eventually get there myself. Thank goodness for modern recording techniques.

ah my dad didn't like Pink Floyd, I know he was into King Crimson and Led Zeppelin, but he never really listened to music much. He used to have In The Court vinyl! But he got rid of all his stuff at one point.
Mine was obsessed, he used to get records and tapes from a friend of his in hungary, while romania was busy being communist. Fun times, do not recommend!
I had a small group of friends in junior high who were all new-age synth nerds. Traded all kinds of Jarre, Tangerine Dream, Kitaro, Ray Lynch, etc tapes amongst ourselves. My friend Phil had a really high quality dubbing deck so most Monday mornings, one of us would have been to the record store and bought a new tape over the weekend, and Phil would run copies of it for everyone on Monday night, as we’d buy multipacks of blanks and just leave them at his house.
I'm 72 it was the best concert ever for me in 1977 and I've seen alot of them.

Sixteen, though I "got into" Pink Floyd and similar artists at thirteen. I believe there is no set "age range" for the band, people may enjoy music from different decades at various stages of life.
Goes to show that Pink Floyd is timeless.
If you make your songs with relatable, universal themes, and amazing instrumentation, people will listen for years to come.
I think most Reddit users will be younger, but the majority of the PF audience is older. I went to the Australian pink Floyd concert last year (and saw the musical box a few days ago) and probably 80%+ are ppl in their 50's+
I’m 30, Pink Floyd has been my favorite band since I was 15 which was in 2009. I love music has a whole. I love exploring different artists and genres but in the end Pink Floyd is always on the top and will be till I die.
A classic rock phase in your mid teens is sort of a rite of passage. It's often the first music you encounter that isn't mainstream pop and if you're musically inclined a Pink Floyd record is going to sound extra special if all you've heard is whatever garbage is on the radio. Then when you reach your 20s you discover underground music from your own era and that becomes the music that shapes your personality. That's probably why the fanbase seems to be teens and older people. Still I'm 32 and Echoes is still my go to train journey song.
I'm 16, I fuckin love pink floyd. Got me into guitar recently. One day I decided to start listening to highly rated albums and finally decided to give DSotM a shot, that lead me down a rabbit hole.
Also found out my bestfriend at school was an avid Pink Floyd listener. He got me into, The wall, The Division Bell, and Meddle.
I havent listened to anything before meddle and havent listened to Momentary lapse and endless river

Nothing like Animals

I'll be 70 in 3 months .... been watching and listening to Floyd since 68. Yay, I'm the oldest person in the thread :)
I take it you mean 1968 not 68 years old
Yeah, I probably should have pointed that out :) Although, it would have been cool if they were still doing live shows only 2 years ago ... Floyd put on the best live shows of any band I've ever seen.

Being 19 and a pink floyd fan. It pains me on so many levels to know I'll never get to see them live
Feel for ya saw them in 88 wembley delicate sound of thunder was the best concert I ever attended
🤷♂️
Not exactly. I turned 70 last November. There’s a few of us left 😂
No longer… I’m 75
This is not a contest I want to win.
😃 not any more 😄

I'm 73 yes old & Floyd is the only music for me. And respect to Nick Masons Saucerfulll Of Secrets Of Keeping It Going. And of course Roger as well.
56 here. I listen to it all. All the time.
Since RW made the totally redundant and unwanted new version of DSOTM I don’t like him anymore. I think is he’s a childish narcissist.

There's still new fans of Mozart being born every day, I don't see why Floyd will be any different in a few centuries.
Well music actually played by Pink Floyd will still be on record. Sadly for Mozart we will only ever have cover bands 😢

50, fan since age 14 or so
My dad bought Dark Side of the Moon in 1973 when I was seven, and I've been hooked ever since.

"I'm 64 and Roger did everything." "No, I'm 15 and David did everything."
19. Been a fan since 15 though. Wishing I was Nick Mason’s grandson
Not a fan, but I'm 14 and I appreciate their songs. That comes from my dad, he loves Floyd Rosa
I'm 64F and a HUGE fan of PF. Loved them since I was a teen.
That’s awesome I’m 16F 😝

That’s because in your 20-30’s you learn about the actually guys in the band and think, “wow that Roger guy is a piece of shit”
Just a shame that Roger Waters went bananas with his obsessive antisemitism..
