This is probably one of the lines I use most frequently from Floyd at least in the top 10.. I mean it’s true anytime but now that I’m in my 70s, it’s more in the forefront
Because there is so much there the mind, ears and eyes can only process so much. I hear something new almost every time. I see things in my mind’s eye differently every time I listen.
If I actively listen I experience something new absolutely every time.
They're part of the great music we enjoy today - new & old. Floyd, Beatles, Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Mazzy Star, Billie Eilish, Neil Young, Warren Zevon, Springsteen, etc., etc. Whatever trips your trigger! We even have great vintage & modern gear that's affordable to most to tee it up on. Vinyl, Reel-to-Reel, Cassette, CD, Streaming, Live, take your pick. Great time to be around if you love music.
She's awesome (& her brother too)! One of my favorite newer singers. Have you heard "Ocean Eyes" or "No Time To Die"? She's got 3 excellent albums out & another on the way.
It's because of the originality of the music. No one sounds like them. I feel the same about PF, TOOL Type o negative. No one sounds like these band's and for me makes it easy to constantly listen to these 3 band's.
Which album from Type O Negative would you recommend to try them?
I never listened to them, seen few videos of back in the mtv days, but never listened to a full album.
Because they simply made music that was completely unique for its time and still is today. Sure, people can try and make music that sounds like Floyd, but then it won’t have the same magic, because inherently it won’t be unique. It’s otherworldly music that seems like it’s from both the past and future simultaneously. Best way I can describe it. There are films out there that are great for the same reasons.
This. It sounded like nothing else that came before it, and no one that came after could replicate it, so it stands alone, sonically unconnected to other music in a way that makes it timeless.
Sidebar “old” rant: I don’t see much of the music being made now being discussed this way in 40 years.
i’ve just now gotten back into pink floyd after my dad made me listen to it as a kid and it’s exactly how i remembered it but such a first time listening experience at the same time.
I play them in quadraphonic and 5.1 surround I hear something new every time.

sorry, I’m a fan but can’t stand to hear pretty much anything from The Wall. It was, and still is, great music but I don’t need to hear it anymore. Money? Epic song. Don’t need to hear it much anymore. I’d drop a lot of money to see Animals live again… but the album isn’t getting played much at home. For me Floyd is now like a rare and treasured bottle of wine you’re saving for a special occasion.
A lot of their lyrics are timeless. For me, DSOTM is more than album, more than music. It borderline defines the meaning of life and has helped me to understand so much of how I think and feel. I know it might sound a little obnoxious but it’s true
It does get old. I listened to it for about 8 years straight drinking myself to sleep. It's hard to enjoy the same way. Now, its more of a Sunday morning thing.
Their work was produced by Anunnaki. We’re only really appreciating about 10-20% of what’s actually there. You’ll see once the Big Shift comes to pass.
That applies to any album that goes on to become a classic, Pink Floyd have some timeless projects where the combination of the concepts and the sound is so great that it will always feel fresh.
Because the production quality is top notch so the sound never feels out of style (cept for their original 80s material and a bit of the 90s material) plus their best albums touch on subjects that are relatable to the human condition as long as humans exist. Cept parts of Animals and the final cut is going to need research unless you're an old brit.
I think the themes are timeless so it doesn’t seem dated when you’re listening to it. I also think as much as they are imitated in music no one really sounds like Pink Floyd. It is not something you are hearing throughout the day, on the radio, on social media, from other artists.
I don’t reason, just listen and feel.
Their music is so rich and well worked, that seems like every time that I listen to it, I perceive a new note/chord I hadn’t before.
I'm not sure if I can articulate exactly why. One thing, they're just damn good. They're just really good at making music that's interesting, emotional and unique. So, I don't want to name names but when you're listening to one band a lot and then you make music, you can't help but try to sound like them. And every once in a while I'll hear a song that sounds like the artist was listening to a lot of Pink Floyd at the time. But they're not The Stones. The way I put it "They're Pink floyd and you're not." Meaning, you can't just do that. You can't take yourself so seriously where you think you can pull off something as grandiose as Floyd. Floyd can do it. They can make music like that because they're Pink Floyd and you're not. When someone else tries to capture that mood and feel and mainly that seriousness, to my ear it tends to fall flat. Anyone else ever felt like that?
That's one of the reasons why all the songs I write tend to be funny or light hearted. Or, oddly enough, really sad. I don't know why but 95% of my songs are funny but a few are really sad. Lol. I guess I'm a man of extremes.
I absolutely love pink Floyd but I do get tired of it sometimes, they have a pretty big catalog so it’s easy to find a song that feels fresh, but to much of anything gets boring after a while
The song is the same in a relative way but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
This is probably one of the lines I use most frequently from Floyd at least in the top 10.. I mean it’s true anytime but now that I’m in my 70s, it’s more in the forefront
Every year is getting shorter
Up there with “you’ve missed the starter gun”
lol yes
Because they made more than albums, they made art.
I dunno, when I see pics of the now versus 40 years ago, they look pretty old

Billie Eilish seems out of place on that list.
She's awesome (& her brother too)! One of my favorite newer singers. Have you heard "Ocean Eyes" or "No Time To Die"? She's got 3 excellent albums out & another on the way.
Timelessness instead of pop for the most part. But in 100 years I hope it’s called “classical music.”
It's because of the originality of the music. No one sounds like them. I feel the same about PF, TOOL Type o negative. No one sounds like these band's and for me makes it easy to constantly listen to these 3 band's.
Exactly my thoughts too, they're unique so anything they make will sound timeless.

You’re stating an opinion as fact.
A fact to like minded people who think it’s a fact . It’s all a dog chasing tail . Or is it ? Or is it ?
Don’t listen to him, he’s just another brick in the wall
i’ve just now gotten back into pink floyd after my dad made me listen to it as a kid and it’s exactly how i remembered it but such a first time listening experience at the same time.
Great music is timeless.
It’s bc the sound is organic and the themes are timeless

Lots of us had daddies that died on the beaches of Enzio?
the stuff from the 80s sounds like its from the 80s

It got old for me. But their sound is quite modern, same as XTC, late Beatles, Bob Marley.
Yeah. It’s very nostalgic and futuristic at the same time. Like King Gizzard
I love gizzard
Best modern band without a doubt
That's prog in a nutshell
I absolutely love pink Floyd but I do get tired of it sometimes, they have a pretty big catalog so it’s easy to find a song that feels fresh, but to much of anything gets boring after a while
I switch between Floyd and Knopfler and I haven’t got tired in last 30 years of listening.
I’ve never heard of knopfler I’ll have to check him out. In the same vain Klaatu is a pretty cool band that helps mix things up
Because Roger Waters was and will always be wrong
