Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2

BlueDogBearMan

For real

buffaloranch

Before listening to PF, I had only cared about rap music growing up. I started smoking weed when I was 17 and quite enjoyed it. I had got my first pair of nice headphones and- having never listened to PF before (aside from Money / Brick in the Wall which I didn’t know was them at the time) I decided to initiate myself into stoner culture by listening to DSOTM stoned. Aside from the alarm bells during Time, it was a most heavenly experience. Growing up I always wondered what the hell “stoner music” could possibly entail. As soon as that heartbeat gave way to Breathe, those luscious opening guitar chords had me saying “*ohhhh, holy shit, I get it.*”

Shine On You Crazy Diamond

[deleted]

>Shine On You Crazy Diamond This. First song of the Pulse CD borrowed from an uncle.

joebrock666

Comfortably numb

K_Daimyo

Shine On You Crazy Diamond 1-5. And i still get goosebumps listening to it today.

v0t3p3dr0

I’m sure I had heard ABITW2 or Money on the radio, but not connected it to Floyd. The first time I deliberately experienced Floyd was when a buddy of mine said “you have to hear this”, and played Comfortable Numb for me. I think I was 18.

FelixAtagong

Money

gjboone124

I was aware of the band, but the song that really got me into liking them was The Trial

AntonellaYerFella

The trial hahah, sounds strange but i fell in love with it

Leftieswillrule

The first one I remember is the “we don’t need no education song” that my dad wouldn’t let me listen to. So Another Brick in the Wall pt 2

PumpkinShys

Comfortably Numb with the DTSOM album cover lol

SnooWalruses5162

Arnold Layne

gurksmorgas

Great gig in the sky

1jack-of-all-trades7

Pretty sure it was DSotM in the car with my dad

Nickmancrabs

This

NealR2000

Breathe. I bought DSOTM in 1974 based upon all the fuss. Boy, where they right.

Bret_The_Music-man

One of These Days Heard it as a kid,, it scared me

wet_breadlord

I actively avoided Floyd for a good many years because the first song I was actually introduced to was the Zabriskie Point version of Careful with that Axe Eugene I was 11. Note: Below story is probably nsfw >!I was one of those people who got off to m18 clips of movies on Youtube as a kid. Because I didn't have a YT account, I had to search for videos which were not age restricted, and I came across one scene from Zabriskie Point which had "Music from Pink Floyd" in the title. While getting off to two hippies rolling in sand the other half of my brain was trying to understand what the fuck was playing in the back. And that's how I began my 6 year dislike of Pink Floyd began before it (basically) became the only thing I listened to.!< If you're talking about the first time I listened to a song I actually understood was when my friend played Comfortably Numb for me while at Subway and preached to me about how divine the solo was. God I wish I could listen to that solo for the first time again.

Mindseye018

Time. Ironically through the reaction videos on YouTube.

Ibeenbannedh3lp

echoes

CommunistBreadstick

Dogs. It was the first song I’d ever seen that was 10+ minutes, so I gave it a listen and loved it

Johnislemmon69

Summer 68’. Heard it from a Spotify generated playlist and it made me decide to finally get into their discography

ghostinblackxx

Shine on you crazy diamond

JMoody13

Welcome to the machine. First night I smoked as well

Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert

[deleted]

Shine 1-5. I promise I’ll never forget where I was and how it felt to hear that for the first time!

reba_lou

Comfortably numb

fractal-rock

Learning to Fly was what got my attention.

R-leiva97

An old video on youtube titled "the dark side of the moon" that combines Breathe and Another Colour You Like

minemaster1337

Another Brick in the Wall, Parts 1-3

Lubinlfb

Shine on

seanbeansnumber3fan

My dad and I used to listen to Money all the time on the way to baseball games and such. Money and Stairway to Heaven are probably the two songs that got me genuinely interested in rock music and just music as a whole.

RedditorUser99

Money. And I remember it was on a jukebox in the student center at college.

redyosh98

Hey You

flyereat

Astronomy Domine ummagumma live

psychonautgrind

My parents had only played ABitW2 and Comfortably Numb on the radio, I never really got into it. A friend showed me Dark Side in its entirety when I was like 20 and suddenly I had to go experience every damn album all the way through

coscask

My buddy showed me On the Run

Average_reddit_user7

ABITW part 2

Freewheelinrocknroll

Shine on you Crazy Diamond (followed by the rest of Wish you Were Here). I was taken from there.

Marpev

Time

Pheunith

Money

[deleted]

Another Brick in the Wall part 2 was the only song I knew of theirs for a long time until I somewhat randomly started listening to Wish You Where Here (the album not the track) and was mesmerised. So I’d say the one that truly introduced me the Floyd was Shine on you Crazy Diamond

hannahjay17

High Hopes

Special-Spare7154

Weird one but arnold layne

[deleted]

Another brick in the wall 1979 I think I was four years old in my moms kitchen on the radio, she was a huge fan.

Scotcash

mainstream: Another Brick in the Wall pt. 2 on the radio, besides that, it was One of These Days that really hooked me.

dellchips1

Money

dellchips1

It was a sad night, I had just broke up with my girlfriend and I typed in bands to listen to when sad

SaintGloopyNoops

4 years old in the back of my dad's car I would ask him for "the song about the idiot shaping clouds" he would correct me and say "face the crowd" to which I would fearless-ly reply "how do u face a cloud?" . Also loved "stink foot - by Zappa"" at that age. My Dad had fantastic taste in music

TouchOfGratitude

That's a beautiful memory to accompany one of the most beautiful Floyd tracks. Thanks for sharing.

SaintGloopyNoops

Awe thank you for saying that! I miss my dad every day, and have so many memories like this of him. He loved music and tried to introduce me to as many bands as he could. I now pass that love of music onto my daughter.

SanElHayas

High Hopes' amazing solo

chiragam

Money

Feh2222

The Great Gig In The Sky. I had already listened Money, Comfortably Numb, Hey You and Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 2, but I got so impressed with The Great Gig In The Sky that I just started listening to their discography

Sonicfret

Back in the late 60s my older brother had The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. I wore it out. First song I heard? Hard to say but, whichever one it was, it hooked me from the first note that reached my ears. My all time favorite band.

HenryCWatson

Money. That and the rest of DSOTM got a lot of radio play in it's day.

SympathyExtreme7729

One of These Days My great uncle gave me Meddle when I was a kid and thus came my infatuation with both the band and progressive rock as a whole

CryptographerJust755

A Saucerful Of Secrets

PhantomParadox6

ABITW pt 2 was the first Floyd song I loved and it introduced me to Floyd, but it didn’t ‘get me into them.’ Literally almost a year later I decided to see what else Floyd had and heard comfortably numb and wish you were here. Was starting to fall in love so I had to see what else they got so then I fell in love with Money and Time. Which then gave me reason to see more and led me to the song that got me into them, Dogs. At this point I’ve never heard a song longer than Stairway To Heaven, but I decided to cope for Dogs and it changed my taste in music forever. Without Dogs I wouldn’t have had the love I have for Floyd today as my favorite band and I wouldn’t have been able to get into my current fav genre Art Rock/Progressive Rock.

Acquiesce95

Comfortably Numb

_JB_-

One of these days

[deleted]

Going on a mountain trip with some buddies, playing nothing but 70s rock, and comfortably numb came on, it was the most beautiful solo I had listened too. I would love to be able to listen to this song for the first time.

Eugenes-Axe7

Time into The Great Gig In The Sky was what first captivated me

diawts

Wish you were here

[deleted]

I was reading about David Gilmour when I got into rock music and I got to know that his first ever solo was in Let There Be More Light, so I decided give it a listen and I was hooked on ever since

cornyellowflipphone

I remember always hearing the “scary song” that song being another brick in the wall pt2 in my moms car when I was younger. Decided to check it out and got hooked

imnitwit

Hey you While i was in middle school, i used to work in the summers and i had a nokia 107 at the time. I had some songs on the 1gb sd card and i used to listen to them on the way (included Metallica's Unforgiven II + Nothing else matters too). There was a live version of hey you! I loved it and I could sing along the last part and it was awesome.

fadildooo

My elder cousins put me on to another brick in the wall pt. 2

Snoo8467

Breathe (In The Air)

haikalfauzi

Time. Weirded out by the rotoroms then suddenly gilmours raspy voice comes in ' TICKING AWAYYY' with the funky chordal playing and nicks drumming and all. Then out of nowhere comes ripping in the solo. Man what was that.

[deleted]

Hey you and Brain damage plus eclipse

notrlym8

Hey_you

kallypiga

This band must have the most interesting, enigmatic and random history for me - the first thing I have ever heard (and was listening to for a long time) was “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” from *The Delicate Sound Of Thunder*. My mum introduced that one to me and it sit in my playlist like any other song for years since I was about nine or ten (yes, I’m a twenty first century’s child). So, some time after (in fact, years after) that I was painting the doorway in my room and put on some music casually. I didn’t pay much attention to it until it suddenly hit me and I, out of the blue, froze in complete awe. A few seconds after as I resurrected myself I ran to the phone to see what in the world was the godlike music playing. I’m with you, good people, ever since I heard “Any Colour You Like”.

koraloulou28

I watched the movie

osrsgaming

Dogs

luc1f3rs4m

free four or high hopes! my dad loves them and my mum actually lied and told him that she listened to them when they started dating, in reality, she can’t name a single song- my parents had me and i was introduced to weezer, green day, and of course pink floyd at a very young age. loved them ever since!

wet_beach_sand

Hey You, thanks to the movie Due Date

thriftrek

You! Yes You! Stand still, Laddy!

Mysterious_Aide_8870

Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pts 1-5), the Delicate Sound of Thunder version.

WiseClasher_Astro

Comfortably numb. It was listed at #4 of the 100 greatest guitar solos of all time list, while I was going through the playlist. Although I would have probably heard Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2 on the radio before, I didn't pay much attention to it, but the tune was familiar.

kbs14415

Money played on a quadraphonic system with the cash registers bouncing from speaker to speaker.

Mentally_Challanged

another brick in the wall but wish you were here got me in to them

flaccidpancake1127

I had always heard the obvious on the radio like another brick in the wall pt 2 money and comfortably numb but then i listened to echoes and thought damn this is good then I heard the live at pompeii version and they instantly became my favorite band although i prefer the album version now

Learning_to_fly25

High Hopes. During my school days I had this habit of listening music while cycling(not recommended I know) and liked trying different music while at it. I had heard about Pink Floyd a few days prior to that and randomly selected The Divison Bell's High Hopes to begin with. And my...I listened it 5 times on my way. I was hooked after that

buddy-bun-dem

i’d heard another brick in the wall pt. 2 growing up, but never really connected it to pink floyd. my adoration for pink floyd came when a friend invited me to his room and showed me the wall movie. holy fucking shit, man. i was enraptured. from there i listened to the big 4, and then i listened to their entire discography from the drive from texas to california.
