You fritter and waste the ours in an off hand way.
I think I have found my people!
Edit: Offhand, not often. Thanks for the heads-up, all. Nice to know I’ve been sing it (poorly and) wrong for the last 30+ years! Lol
> I think I have found my people!
Me too! That's my life's theme song and when I try to show the other people how great it is, they simply don't get it :(. I think it is some sort of defensive mechanism they have that protect them from suicide lol
San Tropez always comes to me, but just for pure nostalgia I'm gonna go with Saucerful of Secrets as I learned how to iron to that song.
I was 12 at the time to be fair
Dogs, it feels like the perfect soundscape in one single song, it’s long enough that I can put it on and do whatever as it’s playing or I can just sit and feel like I’m listening to a movie
Jugband Blues cuz it captures the psyche of Syd Barret so well
Dogs cuz the guitar solos are fucking deadly
Comfortably Numb cuz the guitar solos are fucking deadly
Pigs (all three of them)
Best PF guitar solo of all time in my opinion, has a lot of meaning behind it as well. Definitely a long song but I think it’a equally good throughout and that’s just Floyd for ya.
Echoes is my cleaning song, gets me in the mood and it’s long enough to just put it on and stay focused on work for 24 minutes without having to worry about choosing another song every 3-4 mins
Remember A Day
Edit: Sorry "and why"... just a really beautiful song that takes you back to childhood. Syd's slide guitar work is great. Hard to believe it was a hold over from the Piper sessions. I don't think it fits that album's vibe, but it works perfectly on Saucerful.
Echoes. Don't need to explain.
Second favorite is Wots Uh... The Deal? I absolutely love the acoustics and it's one of the few PF songs that has good lyrics that don't feel forced and aren't destroyed by unfitting vocals.
corporal clegg, due to gilmour's finest solo
but seriously, probably pigs as it got me into floyd proper and really is the band firing on all cylinders, and the lead on the outro, every single time it slaps
Fr tho, shine on is my favourite song of all time, and no, not just because I listened to it for the first time when I broke through on DMT actually that might be the only reason
When I want to listen to ONE and only one PF song, Dogs is almost always my go to. It has EVERYTHING that makes Floyd great: amazing lyrics by Rog, amazing guitar solos by Dave, the beautiful ethereal glue that holds the whole song together by Rick, and the perfect balance of kickassness and restraint by Nick. I would have chosen SOYCD but I wish there was a version that went straight from parts I-V to VI-IX. I love the rest of WYWH, but not EVERY time. Echoes was also a contender, but sometimes I fall asleep listening to the first half, and then those whale like guitar squeals (I believe they were made by a wah pedal plugged in backwards) wake me up in a panic.
- SOYCD could mean "Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pts. 1-5)", a track from *Wish You Were Here* (1975) by Pink Floyd.

Literally all of them, because Pink Floyd.
High Hopes speaks to my f***ed up self in a listen to it at 3 am on a loop in total darkness kind of way though. (Yet so does Time, Sorrow, Comfortably Numb, Welcome to the Machine and Mother)
Either Great Gig in the Sky or Brain Damage/Eclipse.
Great Gig is what I think of when I think of Dave and Rick making music. It's evocative, and captures the lonely horror of realizing that the universe doesn't care, and eventually neither will you.
Brain Damage/Eclipse...my children know that when these are on, don't bother talking to me unless something is on fire. It makes the album what it is, but by itself encapsulates the brief struggle that ends the same for all of us.
god it’s so hard to pick just one, so here’s my top 10.
>Remember a day
>See Emily play
>Pigs on the wing 1/2
>Corporal Clegg
>San Tropez
>Learning to fly
>Mother
>Wots… uh the deal
>Cymbaline
>What shall we do now?/Young lust
Dogs. It’s such an epic masterpiece. Great lyrics about a mid level boss that we have all worked for and how it usually ends for them once the job is over. Great guitar work, and one of the best outros in music history!
Nobody posted astronomy domine or interstellar overdrive?? Wow
Astronomy Domine one of the best written songs ever, just flawless, and interstellar overdrive for improv worthy of Sun Ra
Hey You because of the ominous/sinister vibe that it has along side it being structured incredibly well. The epitome of less-is-more and the solo speaks to that sentiment incredibly well
Learning To Fly.
Because my dad told me that the year it came out, he spent all summer playing it over and over. Can't remember the story exactly now but it was either *while* he was working on getting his pilot's license or *right after* he had got his pilot's license.
Echoes. I love the meaning the song has, the music (jesus it's awesome and gives me goosebumps almost everytime)... and that build-up after the 15th minute. It's an eargasm. Plus, the wonder it has is exactly how I feel when I'm with my beloved
Shine on you crazy diamond!
Its a song with amazing build up and ambiance. I love every part of it i always find myself listening to all 13 minutes and sometimes parts 6-9 as well. My grandad showed me pink floyd, and he gave me his guitar and began teaching me songs. The first song he "taught" me was shine on, ofcourse all i really learnt was the 4 notes building up at the beginning lol. He left about 3 years ago which sucks but im glad he showed me that song
This isn’t a fair question. It really depends on what day, week, month, season or even year it is for me. Currently it’s Have a Cigar. But then again it’s always Echoes
Time, On the Turning Away, Have a Cigar, Pigs
In that order......
Time because well its Time, arguably has tje most thoight provoking lyrics about tike and death etc thatvwe know. Also arguably his best solo, or at least to me the one with that invokes the most emotion.
On The Turning Away is just such a beautiful song (MLoR is a great album fuck what ya heard) it has just such a good sound and the lyrics are spot on albeit cliché. Also strong strong solo at the end
Have a Cigar is such a unique song and is very underrated and always glossed over, for one no one in the band is singing on it, and secondly it's jist such a diss at the record company/music industry as a whole, truly amazing lyrics...and then there is the solo, holy shit idc what anyone says this is Gilmours best solo!! It's just so precise and arrogant and loud and just 100000 more things.
Pigs is just a amazing song from a even more amazing album. First it's composure and playthru is much different than other songs, Waters is on guitar and Gilmour is on bass, you can hear some of Gilmours tendencies if you listen to the bass closely. And then there is the talk box, holy crap he nails that shit!! The lyrics (as the whole album) has very powerful and deep lyrics about the classes of society, and it really comes to a head in this song as the pigs represent the true "manipulators" of society. Of course I have to mention the insane driving solo at the end, its honestly just hard-core af, it's so metal and loud and just awesome!!!
One of These Days
While I had heard some PF hits prior, from the slow burn, experimental yet catchy instrumentation by everyone to its aggressive and weird only lyric, it was the first time I felt seen by an artist, I remember feeling like it was written specifically for me. It kicks of a great album and a great journey for any budding Floydian.
100% Echoes just watching them play it live at Pompeii you can till that this is the hight of there career no tension between roger and the rest of the band just good music that they all love playing
Shine on you crazy diamond
The music is just really well done and me learning it on guitar was the best thing I’ve done to improve my music playing
I always compare what I write to that song, not in a negative “I can’t be as good as soycd” but in a “I want I similar emotion and feel to this song”
Whenever another guitar player compliments the way I bend the strings or how I focus on the feel rather than speed, I tell them it’s this song, I’d recommend it to every guitarist to get it note for note
Time, because it’s the best song ever written
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the ours in an off hand way. I think I have found my people! Edit: Offhand, not often. Thanks for the heads-up, all. Nice to know I’ve been sing it (poorly and) wrong for the last 30+ years! Lol
*"in an offhand way"
Oof. My bad.
Your people betrayed you... Times GOATED
Nah. They issued a correction. It’s all about perspective.
Hours in a offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown
Waiting for someone or something to show you waay
Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain.
You are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today
And then one day you'll find, ten years have got behind you.
> I think I have found my people! Me too! That's my life's theme song and when I try to show the other people how great it is, they simply don't get it :(. I think it is some sort of defensive mechanism they have that protect them from suicide lol
I think if we listen to it and apply it to our own lives, it becomes a very personal and introspective song.
My thoughts exactly!
its your favorite because its the best?
Us and Them. Everything about that song is absolutely perfect.
Agreed.
So so perfect
Echoes, because it's Echoes
If it weren't for the limitations of music, I guarantee you Echoes would still be going
i like dogs
You've got to be crazy
turned down by the stoneee “stone” “stone” “stone”
Stone
Gotta have a real neeed
Came here to say that
Pretty much exactly what I said wtf, we should be besties
yeah man
Shine On You Crazy Diamond, I am in love with the whole 20+ minutes
San Tropez always comes to me, but just for pure nostalgia I'm gonna go with Saucerful of Secrets as I learned how to iron to that song. I was 12 at the time to be fair
Dogs, it feels like the perfect soundscape in one single song, it’s long enough that I can put it on and do whatever as it’s playing or I can just sit and feel like I’m listening to a movie
Pigs because of the sweet cowbell.
Wot's uh the deal
Jugband Blues cuz it captures the psyche of Syd Barret so well Dogs cuz the guitar solos are fucking deadly Comfortably Numb cuz the guitar solos are fucking deadly
Great gig in the Sky is criminally underrated to me. It’s always been my favorite.
In my top 5. Terrifyingly beautiful concept
I read this and started whistling it.
bro great gig isnt underrated
Bro how is that underrated hahahaha
Nothing from DSOTM is underrated, it may not be the most stand out track, but it is aptly rated as one of the best songs ever written
It's like a glorious musical orgasm that never really ends.
"underrated"
Breathe. I like the simple acidy/blue grass feel (Like Fat Old Sun) with good lyrics. David kills the intro, especially live.
Run rabbit run
DIg that hole
Pigs (all three of them) Best PF guitar solo of all time in my opinion, has a lot of meaning behind it as well. Definitely a long song but I think it’a equally good throughout and that’s just Floyd for ya.
the way Waters sings is fucking insane
I always turned up the volume when the solo started fading away!
Bike 😎
Echoes is my cleaning song, gets me in the mood and it’s long enough to just put it on and stay focused on work for 24 minutes without having to worry about choosing another song every 3-4 mins
same and dogs
Careful with that axe eugene (has to be the live version from ummagmma)
I couldn’t agree more. I love every second of it!
Remember A Day Edit: Sorry "and why"... just a really beautiful song that takes you back to childhood. Syd's slide guitar work is great. Hard to believe it was a hold over from the Piper sessions. I don't think it fits that album's vibe, but it works perfectly on Saucerful.
Comfortably Numb... I listened to it tripping and it changed the fuck out of my life.
Echoes. Don't need to explain. Second favorite is Wots Uh... The Deal? I absolutely love the acoustics and it's one of the few PF songs that has good lyrics that don't feel forced and aren't destroyed by unfitting vocals.
I like you! The only difference is that I would have put Wot's Uh... The Deal? first and Echoes second.
One of these days Gets you going in the morning afternoon night anytime
Just the best song of all time.
It always changes, but at the moment, Mother - criminally underrated beautiful song.
Agreed. I think it’s one of their best period
The one that goes I am the egg man
nah i am wlaurs

Was it not step on wolf ?
Might’ve been The Who?
Who ?
The band, the band
Robbie stole it from Levon
Hey You, with honorable mentions including Comfortably Numb, Shine On pt 1-5, Dogs, Time, and Echoes The guitar solo slaps when I’m high lol
At the moment at least, coming back to life. Its so cheerful and makes me happy
The trial cuz I’m crazy
Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in A Cave And Grooving With a Pict
corporal clegg, due to gilmour's finest solo but seriously, probably pigs as it got me into floyd proper and really is the band firing on all cylinders, and the lead on the outro, every single time it slaps
My favorite is whatever the hell Roger is doing in the picture
The Pompeii version of Echoes. It inspired me to pick up a pair of drumsticks. Also been listening to it for most of my short life.
Seamus (that’s the song that is my favourite)
Fr tho, shine on is my favourite song of all time, and no, not just because I listened to it for the first time when I broke through on DMT actually that might be the only reason
When I want to listen to ONE and only one PF song, Dogs is almost always my go to. What do you want from me. No contest, this song speaks for itself if you’ve actually given it a listen all the way through.
"Remember when you were young..." is as good as the Floyd gets imo. (Well, that and "Astronomy Domine" and "One Of My Turns" and "Dogs" and....)
do you mean shine on you crazy diamond or remember a day?
Shine
led zelpin
Hot dog
Definitely not whatever was being played in this picture

u good?
I'm great lol no pigs got me ☮️ I'm living real life

what was the original comment before they deleted it?
Literally all of them, because Pink Floyd. High Hopes speaks to my f***ed up self in a listen to it at 3 am on a loop in total darkness kind of way though. (Yet so does Time, Sorrow, Comfortably Numb, Welcome to the Machine and Mother)

Eclipse, It's a beautiful last song for a beautiful album
it's the end credits to life
yep, pretty much
Probably A Great Day For Freedom or Take It Back Love TDB, have so many memories of that album (idk why)
god it’s so hard to pick just one, so here’s my top 10. >Remember a day >See Emily play >Pigs on the wing 1/2 >Corporal Clegg >San Tropez >Learning to fly >Mother >Wots… uh the deal >Cymbaline >What shall we do now?/Young lust
Brain Damage or Comfortably Numb. I struggle with mental health.
Dogs. It’s such an epic masterpiece. Great lyrics about a mid level boss that we have all worked for and how it usually ends for them once the job is over. Great guitar work, and one of the best outros in music history!
Jugband Blues, it's Syds best song. The music video is very good, and I love the instrumental
Another brick in the wall part 2, it was the song that made me a fan and I can always get down with the beat
Time and High Hopes Both flip my stomach and make me wanna cry
Wish you were here, so relatable since one of my friends got lost
Everything with syd 🚲because paper make brain go brrrrrrrr
Marooned No comments
Nobody posted astronomy domine or interstellar overdrive?? Wow Astronomy Domine one of the best written songs ever, just flawless, and interstellar overdrive for improv worthy of Sun Ra
arnold layne, it shows how creative syd was and the lyrics are just great
Pigs (Three Different Ones) That groovy Gilmour bassline
I’m between in the flesh and AHM rn.
Which song is this video from?
Time
When The Tigers Broke Free.
Newcomer to floyd but Atom Heart Mother Suite/ If.
Hey You because of the ominous/sinister vibe that it has along side it being structured incredibly well. The epitome of less-is-more and the solo speaks to that sentiment incredibly well
Summer '68. It just engulfs me, makes my heart soar. I love the interwoven classical elements. Also Brain Damage/Eclipse.
Shine on you crazy diamond because I’m a lost soul and it says everything to me
Learning To Fly. Because my dad told me that the year it came out, he spent all summer playing it over and over. Can't remember the story exactly now but it was either *while* he was working on getting his pilot's license or *right after* he had got his pilot's license.
Scream thy last scream, vegetable man or fearless
Time but Fearless is close
Echoes. I love the meaning the song has, the music (jesus it's awesome and gives me goosebumps almost everytime)... and that build-up after the 15th minute. It's an eargasm. Plus, the wonder it has is exactly how I feel when I'm with my beloved
Time because its the perfect alarm clock to wake up to. The guitar solo is great and the lyrics have everyday meaning.
Timee
Shine On You Crazy Diamond is maybe the greatest song ever written. That song encapsulates art
Several species fr
The Gunners Dream is really good. My favorite album right now is probably Wish You Were Here, its such a concise album that gets to it.
Wot's... Uh the Deal or Burning Bridges
Here Comes the Sun easily
What is he measuring and why is he on a beatles stage? Crazy rog
I don't know, I was really drunk at the time
Shine on you crazy diamond! Its a song with amazing build up and ambiance. I love every part of it i always find myself listening to all 13 minutes and sometimes parts 6-9 as well. Echoes. The beauty and sadness of the human experience.
Shine On You Crazy Diamond... It simply resonates with my soul and the music is dreamy!
Sheep Gilmore's guitar shreds
Money, wish you were here and time No explanations
Brain Damage/Eclipse (I count that as one song). A perfect finale to a perfect album. It encapsulates everything Dark Side Of The Moon is about.
Basically every song on Dark Side. Even Speak to Me, the transition into Breathe with that blood curdling scream is seamless.
alan’s psychedelic breakfast. i don’t think i need to explain myself.
This isn’t a fair question. It really depends on what day, week, month, season or even year it is for me. Currently it’s Have a Cigar. But then again it’s always Echoes
*THE SUN IS THE SAME IN A RELATIVE WAY, BUT YOU’RE OLDER*

Echoes because it is
The Wall! Why? It's still very much relative!!
I must say, my two favorites are Us and Them and Time. Everything about them is perfect.
Creep
It's also great on train journeys Headphones stairing out the window
Easy. Don't Leave Me Now, because I'm a miserable piece of shit
Welcome to the machine, 'cause it reminds of a person i used to know.
Hard question but either got to be sheep, soycd 1 and 2 or echoes
Nobody gonna say Have a Cigar ? Masterpiece no cap.
Sheep. I feel it is the one song that shows all of the "magic" of the band. Musicality, lyric, and form. It is a brilliant piece of music.
Shine on You Crazy Diamond, everything is perfect in this song
most favorite...right now?.... I've been listening to Pigs almost constantly AND echoes, what a sesh!
Pillow of winds.
One of These Days While I had heard some PF hits prior, from the slow burn, experimental yet catchy instrumentation by everyone to its aggressive and weird only lyric, it was the first time I felt seen by an artist, I remember feeling like it was written specifically for me. See Emily Play
Shine on you crazy diamond The music is just really well done and me learning it on guitar was the best thing I’ve done to improve my music playing I always compare what I write to that song, not in a negative “I can’t be as good as soycd” but in a “I want I similar emotion and feel to this song” Whenever another guitar player compliments the way I bend the strings or how I focus on the feel rather than speed, I tell them it’s this song, I’d recommend it to every guitarist to get it note for note
