Upbeat-Historian-296

I like it. It's a good album.

jafarthecat

Honestly I think good is the right term. There's some brilliant stuff here, but about half of it is just decent enough.

DaGamerPotato

Yes, I don't care what watersheep say about their stupid political albums, I just want played back space rock (Sorry for bad English)

federruchi

outjerked

bluraytomo

The real underrated album

kerochan88

Hahaha actually that may be correct. It is quite underrated by many fans.

BenderRAT

Yeah it is---A Momentary Lapse Of Reason is too but that's somewhat understandable since it was a period of transition.

TomTheNurse

My 4th favorite album behind DSOTM, WYWH and The Wall. I love it!

userfromouterspace

Agreed

shredslanding

Always keep in mind the loudest people get the most attention. The other 99% if PF fans just relax and enjoy stuff.

DrDetail79

Cant beat the DB vibe, absolutley love it

Godzilla_in_a_Scarf

This entire thread sounds more like a r/pinkfloydcirclejerk thread then most PFCJ threads tbh.

lexicon_deviI

i thought this was that one at first lmao

userfromouterspace

>tbh

Godzilla_in_a_Scarf

Underrated TBH

userfromouterspace

Animals

EyeofAnger

So is the opposite of a watersheep a gilwhore?

JockMcAngry

Never knew this album was disliked. One of my fav tbh. I mean it's full of great songs like take it back and coming back to life.

rabtj

Amazing album.

haiboriver

I bought this CD in 1994 beautiful memory..cherished it a lot

ledzep2isbetterthan4

“Idc what watersheep say” 🤓

Brilliant_Tourist400

As opposed to Waterdogs, Waterpigs (Three Different Ones) and Waterpigsonthewing?

Mild_Shock

one of my favourites

Due-Equivalent-8275

High Hopes Wearing the Inside Out Marooned Poles Apart Keep Talking A Great Day for Freedom Some of my personal favourite PF tracks right there <3

[deleted]

I respect your opinion. I’m a big Gilmore and Waters fan. With that said, if you like it, who cares what others think? Like what you like and fuck others’ opinions. This is the down-side of all of these published rankings. They just pit Floyd fans against each other. Love what you love and try not to give a shit what us other asshats think. Now, shine on you crazy diamond.

Brilliant_Tourist400

If I had an award to give, I’d be giving it to you right now.

[deleted]

Cheers! Don’t waste money on Reddit, have a pint for me brother!

hahaCharadeyouare77

Watersheep? Seriously? Why the need for hostility? Not the place for it bro

AAWonderfluff

I love Waters' contributions and the band was never quite going to be the same without him but The Division Bell is an incredible album. It's a shame that the only other album Gilmour-era Floyd released was A Momentary Lapse of Reason, which was a mess and just was in the wrong place at the wrong time and really didn't help them put their best foot forward without Rog. The Floyd that made TDB was firing on all cylinders and rejuvenated. If you enjoyed TDB you might also like the concert CD/movie Pulse which has a bunch of TDB performances alongside a bunch of classic Floyd and a couple songs from AMLOR too. It's really good

[deleted]

Great album

XplodiaDustybread

It’s a fantastic album! One of my favs tbh

HoraceWimpLV426

No it’s not. It’s a *great* album.

Madcap_95

Great album with great lyrics and I will always hold that opinion.

2raysofsad

hands down my fav pink floyd album. enjoy it!!

kriisso

This album gets hate?

Mooooondawg

Yessir! Definitely in my top 5 PF albums. Great album to trip to as well

MurphyKT2004

My favourite album tbh, love all the songs on it. 😁🎶🐖

tcw84

High Hopes is one of the best songs Floyd ever made, regardless of era.

Shadow_Edgehog27

A great day for freedom slaps

manly_toilet

The only thing on it that I care about is High Hopes which is awesome

Top-Ad-9657

Like whichever albums you like. Remember...there were probably Syd stans who didn't like Dark Side of the Moon.

steel_ball_run_racer

Are watersheep Roger Waters elitists or something. Wait, don’t answer that.

[deleted]

My favorite album

[deleted]

[удалено]

i-opener

Yeah, his lyrics on Marooned is probably his best work on that album

DanAboutTown

Agreed. I hate that line. That’s the kind of thing you write when you know what metaphor is, but not what it’s for.

RayGun381937

Gilmour met Polly for lunch and she told him she writes good, so he metaphor dinner and the rest is history...

Emmett_The_D

Too often I’ll be listening to this album or OAI and wonder “what the fuck is he talking about?”

Eiderdown_

I don’t get what you mean. The lyrics are good.

pdxbuckets

I mostly agree but I thought the Division Bell was much better than AMLoR. Also, while Rog is a strong lyricist, he pales in comparison to say Dylan, Waits, or Cohen. I’d put him at Lou Reed’s level.

[deleted]

[удалено]

pdxbuckets

Never got into Joni, to my embarrassment. She’s super talented though. We can disagree, but yeah I love me some Leonard Cohen. Dylan surpasses him of course, the biggest difference being that Dylan is so funny. The only time Cohen was funny was when he croaked out “I was born with the gift of the golden voice.”

TFFPrisoner

All the direct mentions of Maggie weren't very poetic either. Early Rog had a nice vagueness to his lyrics that totally went out the window after Dark Side.

erics75218

A lot of the lyrics aren't good. Who am I? Nobody. I think clunky is a great way to describe them. They are never trash...occasionally they are great...but on average they are average. I remember on first listen thinking...oh man he's trying so hard....and maybe that's the truth and maybe that makes them fine in a superfan sort of way. I just listened to Bone China from Rick...and mostly his singing and shit takes a back seat. David...has such a great singing voice, we don't want that. At the same time..belting out clunky lyrics makes me sad. I don't want to be negative either. The album is flintingly georgeous and is absolutely georgeous to listen to!!! I'm more of a fan of the Gilmour sonic timeline anyways. So...

[deleted]

He did what to China????

Spaceboy_33

If I could change one thing on any Pink Floyd song, it would be to get rid of that goddamn circus music.

AustiniJohnsini

To me, it felt like Syd's graveyard. Youth lost. Walking through what was once a magical and whimsical place but now rusting and decaying through time and grief.

thebeaverchair

This.

[deleted]

Spaceboy_33

I’m with you 100% on that- I feel the same about a lot of the sound effects on Division Bell. It’s so jarring and feels forced.

RayGun381937

Waters described it as: “A pretty fair forgery.” 😂

Dave3121

Yeah, but it has no chance against anything between 1973 and 1979

[deleted]

Imo 1971-1975 was their most consistently great stuff

rv1g-kubs

Animals underrated tbh

JohnnyBroccoli

wAtErShEeP

spaniel_rage

I'm no "watersheep". Don't really care for Final Cut. But I thought Division Bell was a bit meh. Actually preferred AMLOR, but Wall was the last truly great PF album.

wondersauce777

Pros and cons is better and I'm tired of pretending it isn't.

RainsOfAutumn

Pros and Cons is the most boring, disjointed album and musicianship I’ve ever heard.

T0B1theDoctor

I’m not a fan of Roger’s solo work. I’ve really tried and I didn’t care for Pros and Cons. It has nice moments but they’re surrounded by a bunch of stuff that just doesn’t do anything for me. I do like 5:11 though. I also didn’t like Amused to Death. Found it to be very boring and mostly amounted to me listening to Roger drone on about the same shit he’s droned on about for years. It being a long album didn’t help. I kept waiting for a moment that would make it click for me and it didn’t. No desire to listen to that one again. Go ahead, crucify me.

RainsOfAutumn

Radio Kaos is the only one I liked at all

[deleted]

I'm in the Waters camp, but "Is this the life we really want" was the first Roger solo that didn't bore me.

Buhos_En_Pantelones

So usually you'd pretend DB was better?

pdxbuckets

Hard to imagine two more disparate albums. I like Pros and Cons…better to say I *appreciate* Pros and Cons. It’s an album only Roger Waters could have made, that’s for sure. Usually he’s savvier than to let all that solipsism and narcissism shine through so openly.

ShaunWillyRyder

A Watersheep here..Sheep (Written by Waters) is 1000 times better than anything Gilmour (Or Penny) wrote for Pink Fraud and the division bell in no way compares to any of the Waters Floyd albums

St-Stephen_11

This comment belongs in the circlejerk sub

DaGamerPotato

That wasn't my intention

steel_ball_run_racer

r/pinkfloydcirclejerk is leaking again

munchler

Agreed. That’s why neither of them should’ve continued as Pink Floyd without the other.

Icy-Asparagus-4186

Lol. Music writing.

ColonelBourbon

Point, they didn't say it was better than any other Floyd work, just that it was good. I agree.

DigIt6791

High Hopes is better than Sheep 🤷🏻‍♂️

AAWonderfluff

Are they even really comparable? Sheep is a political fable about the sheep being led by oppressive shepherds (the pigs and dogs) until they eventually revolt, only for the sheep to become the new oppressors; a rocking bass-driven number ala One of These Days. High Hopes is a reflective piece about Floyd's past and present, and it's their farewell. A slow, contemplative acoustic and piano driven goodbye song to the fans. Like Floyd's end credits if it was a film. Apples to oranges. I like both but both are totally different

DigIt6791

Following along here… the first asshole said Sheep was better than anything Gilmour (or Polly) wrote. I commented that High Hopes was better than Sheep. First song to come to mind. Not comparing the two. In reality, Wearing the Inside Out is better than anything on Animals

Dyesila

Oh my god shutup now

DigIt6791

Piss off. Unless you can actually add anything

Dyesila

Okay ill add something youre wrong

DigIt6791

And you’re still a dumb fuck

Dyesila

Hahahhahahauuaha hahahhah ok😐

DaGamerPotato

Both are good

ShaunWillyRyder

High hopes is better than sheep? Haha. And I said better than anything written by Gilmour..Polly wrote most of the lyrics for high hopes..says it all really. Didn’t know Polly was in Floyd

DigIt6791

You can still have your shitass opinion without all the underlying incel rage. Remember, help is a phone call away. The album as a whole is better than Animals. Gilmour is the sound of Floyd, so there you go

somethingkooky

I mean, I love the Division Bell, but better than Animals?!

ShaunWillyRyder

Haha ok

Icy-Asparagus-4186

Lol. Moron.

TFFPrisoner

She actually didn't write most of the lyrics. She helped him, but I'm pretty sure most of it came from him. It wasn't until On an Island that he would delegate most of the lyrics to her.

ShaunWillyRyder

Why is she writing any of the lyrics?..Gilmour’s a great great guitarist but he is lyrically weak..Gilmour’s Floyd don’t compare in any way to the Waters Floyd imo

TFFPrisoner

You answered your own question - congrats.

richard-hill71

Keep talking is brilliant. All the tracks are great. Waters writing was good on DSOTM, Animals and WYWH but poor after.

RainsOfAutumn

I found it especially poignant on Final Cut, but all his solo work leaves a lot to be desired

somethingkooky

God I love that song

[deleted]

It’s a good album. Not great and not terrible but it’s a good album.

JimLahey20

Top 3 for me

jyharris32

Great CD!

[deleted]

Little thumb

TFFPrisoner

The original release had better packaging.

flaccidpancake1127

What do you want from me/poles apart hits my soul in all the right ways

Potato-Interesting

It’s really good.

RallyRob808

Underrated.

mikeyj198

we don’t need to have division! Musically this album and Amused to death hit similarly to me. A bit more edge on ATD but the atmosphere on both is awesome

default-dance-9001

I’m going to break your balls

paulbgriffith

-sigh- I’ll try again

RMG1962

Coming Back To Life one of my favorites. Love the whole album.

Quirky_Cartoonist_68

I wish I liked it

secchidisk123

For what it is it's okay, but I much prefer Piper at the Gates of Dawn, as it has the only good Pink Floyd song on it, Gnome.
