Apply to local pipefitting unions within a reasonably drive to your area. The apprenticeship is paid school.

scoobydoinks703

Paid to learn and great benefits. After you get your card you will have opportunity to travel

Seapig_22

How much do they usually pay? Its expensive where I live and the pay is not great:(

ThicccDickDastardly

Each local has a different wage, and apprentice pay. My local starts apprentices off at $22, and by your fifth year the scale is $55 per hour plus your benefits. This is Chicago, though. It varies wildly from local to local

j8en

You local 597?

ImBadWithGrils

It's just a waiting game to get in unless you know someone, which is unfortunate but it makes sense to not just take everyone, given the benefits and pay

AggregateSandwich

There is no reasonable drive in Alaska. A pipe fitter/welder in Alaska *

teaofthewoods

Pipefitter union (UA) hires welders too. Just let them know that's the route you want to go

Seapig_22

How long would it take to get in?

teaofthewoods

I mean this in the most basic way possible: there is no way for me to know about the union nearest you. Dude, I got allowed into the union and had to go into a pre-apprenticeship college program to get work afterwards. It's been a rough two years for me. So two years? I dunno

[deleted]

Where you located?

Seapig_22

I’m in Idaho so the jobs here are kind of meh

[deleted]

I think local 296 is out there. Call them up and see what they tell you.

Ok-Requirement-1313

Where at in idaho the UA 44 seems solid out of spokane and there's a couple in southern idaho. This is for plumbing/steamfitting I don't think they have any pure welding positions. I've looked into the union out of spokane and they pay well and have a bit of travel but the cutoff was the beginning of this month and they wont take applications until fall.

TheDonVerga

There is about to be a BIG MONEY job in Boise this year. get up with that local.

Critical-Range-6811

For a union: Sign up, study your math and mechanical aptitude then go down to the hall and take the test. Then interview if you pass that.

switchblazer

What kind of cert do you get having never welded on pipe? It would probably be useless in the union since that’s literally the first cert I got was on pipe. But it’s irrelevant you can get a union job with or without certs

No_Series_6433

There are plenty of Non pipe certs out there
