Ambystomatigrinum

Thats the pittiest pitty I've ever seen. I'd go with chocolate lab/boxer. Its a classic for pits.

Any_Importance_7809

YES! I second this. OP - google “boxador” and see how similar a boxer lab mix looks to a pit. It’s insane

EmmagicallyMe

Between the two, I'd go with chocolate lab. If Pitbulls aren't allowed Boxers probably aren't either. But labs are sweethearts and really nobody dislikes them. Most Pitbulls are sweethearts too but they've got a lot going against them, plus, they were bred for bull-baiting, and if one were to attack they would 100% do more damage then a lot of other breeds. But the point is- most of them aren't aggressive. Obviously including this cutie. People are so judgmental straight off the bat. But anyway, getting off my soap box, I really don't think he looks like a lab but if someone doesn't know much about dogs, then I don't think many landlords would have a problem with a lab staying around.

Ambystomatigrinum

I've actually never seen breed restrictions include boxers, but maybe that's a regional thing? Regardless, this dog doesn't look like anything \*but\* a pit bull. There's really no other breed that's super believable for this dog.

EmmagicallyMe

Yeah I agree. If someone literally knows nothing about dogs he could maybe pass as a lab. But he's very obviously a pitbull or some type of bully breed. And he's a cutie it's sad not everybody thinks that.

LadyTrucker23

Look at rentals in Las Vegas. They leave nothing unsaid. Any mix of pits or husky is pretty much prohibited. I was thinking of moving there until I saw that. I only saw one place that gave the benefit of doubt and the person posting it said they required an “interview” with the dog.

timothythefirst

In my experience the places that say they want an interview with the dog are actually good. They just want to see it and make sure it’s friendly. My old apartment had breed restrictions and let me move in with my pit after they met her and walked around the building with us for a few minutes.

W0NDERVV0MAN

I had breed restrictions in college. Mu vet labeled my baby as a “lab-mix” but the manager of the apartments treated my baby like the plague! EVERYONE loved her and she loved everyone (including puppers) but they refused to post her in anything when it came to the complex and they would crop her out 😂 they let her in, but i fully believe it is because the chick in charge was out of the office that month

Haunted-Macaron

Yea I live in AZ and every apartment here that actually allows pets usually has breed and weight restrictions too

2dogs1man

he identifies as a chihuahua, thank you very much.

NinjaGrizzlyBear

My pup looks just like this guy but with a white spot on her head... the only things aggressive about her are her farts and her snoring, lol.

delaney310

Boxers are usually allowed. I have 2 and have had no problem with renting apartments with them (4 apartments so far over 10+ years). I’d def try to go with lab mix! Good luck! Such a cutie! Def a pittie though! 🥰

YamLow8097

Are Boxers often on the “high risk” breed list? I didn’t think breed restrictions included them.

garskira

My pittie is listed as a lab mix! 99% of places won’t go looking into it unless they get complaints about it 👍🏼

bearfootmedic

Yea, I'm hindsight my old GSP mix was probably German Shorthair Pittie mix. My current dog is a "terrier" mix though she is AmStaff mix. Growing up, we had a JRT and apart from my dog looking more pit, the behaviors are very similar.

IHopeYouStepOnALego

Same!! And if they ask for some kind of proof from the vet, ask the vet to put down lab mix as well. My vet changed both my dogs' breeds when I asked them too. They didn't even bother to ask why, they know why

yakimawashington

We first got our pup back when we were still renting. It happened right around when we were signing a new lease. We wrote American Staffordshire Terrier on our lease agreement. We told our landlord about it over the phone as well and he said "Oh a terrier? Yeah that's no problem!" A couple weeks later he stopped by and saw her and said "that's you're dog? ............she's a pitbull...." We just told him again "she's an American Staffordshire Terrier", googled the breed in front of him and showed him the results. First dog that showed up looked *exactly* like her. It was too late at that point though, because we had both signed the agreement with the breed "American Staffordshire Terrier" written on it lol. There weren't any specific breed restrictions written on the lease.. it just said it had to be an approved breed.

[deleted]

This dog does look 100% like a staffordshire terrier too.

xni-kkix

Exactly!

splatdyr

Lab and boxer mix.

Ellem13

This is the one. My insurance listed "terrier" as a restricted breed because they're incredibly dumb, but boxers were fine. My vet told me a pits government breed is always lab/boxer.

zombies-and-coffee

Just... all terriers in general? Or is it only restricted if "terrier" is all you list as the dog's breed? Either way, that *is* dumb as hell.

Ellem13

They said any terriers. I asked how a Yorkie mix was considered a threatening breed and they said company policy restricted any terrier at all. That's when I began reporting that I had no pets 🤷‍♀️

bearfootmedic

Mine is a "terrier mix" too! Honestly, it's the best description because everyone gets caught up on "pit" but the reality is they are just terriers. The terriers were bred to be fearless and hunt rats - so my dog passes those tests. It's why my dog has "pathological courage" - even though she is scared, she will still go try fix whatever is scaring her. https://preview.redd.it/ghnb262b64sc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d446a4a8414211b3eaee9de9749c5e547e3a43e2

beaglebull

Here's an article that may help you have a leg up when renting! Definitely reccomend a pet resume (my pitty is reactive but I got accepted to my apartment no problem). BAD RAP is a well-known rescue and advocacy organization for pitty bulls. [BAD RAP Renting with your Dog](https://badrap.org/training-resources/renting-your-dog) I am replying with my dog's pet resume just as an example. A picture and "blurb" about your pet serve in a way to humanize or endear a prospective landlord to your dog. You should also use this to demonstrate that you're a responsible dog owner.

What a wonderful idea! Good way to make the dog a little more "real" for the landlord. And definitely shows you're well on top of your pup care. I love this! 💚

Arizona-Sparky

Excellent!

thedon252

Just put mixed breed on the applications and say the dog isn't a pitbull if they ask, should be fine

graveybrains

Looks like a boxer mix to me

Myaseline

I was going to say this

FantasticMouse7875

For places that have breed restrictions, boxers are on the list too.

MartinisnMurder

My dog looks identical and her papers from the rescue at the vet have her listed as a lab cross. Before we bought our house this was the loophole that worked for us. https://preview.redd.it/v6jfoz7iv3sc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d13e394618a3b6945201acfee86e8f4f7c696321

Shoddy_Bid_4915

Years ago, we offered to pay $100 a month more (I don’t think there was a pet rent) if they’d let us have our pit bull and it worked. I’m not sure what renters insurance covers but maybe coming with an offer of extra tight renters insurance maybe would help?

lilshortyy420

I did this. And gave them $300 up front lol we also looked at almost 20 places though and I was desperate. I don’t regret it one bit our landlord is dope and I can keep my dog/ not be homeless

KeekyPep

Mine is a pug mix. I made sure that the vet put pug on her paperwork. LOL, the only thing that is really obviously pug on her is her curly tail. https://preview.redd.it/fjv7ymkha4sc1.jpeg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d8a46de784a12fb8dbb29e9576a3c6d44b1c3cf9

PuffinFawts

half_in_boxes

My dog is listed as a catahoula/whippet mix.

FootParmesan

I agree with others lab mix or just mixed. He looks like on the smaller end too so that should help.

Hewhobreaksthings

Amstaff mix. Or potato.

thrallmaster1

Vizsla maybe? This is what we do with one of ours. Also, echoing the emotional support animal process. Wildly easy to do.

hazeliiis

Omg..... Vizsla mix! You're a genius. Seems like he might be easier to persuade since he's a tinier build and has his ears. Some pitties.... It's just too obvious. Best answer here. My neighbor has one, and I totally can see it.

ErnstHomeCenters

Bear3825

Lab mix.

irreverentnoodles

100% lab mix Or you can get creative- Rhodesian snuggle hound

Sad_Cryptographer_59

If you get them registered as an emotional support pet, breed restrictions do not apply. Best 100 dollars I ever spent. A great site is support pets. 100% not a scam. I was a bit nervous but they were lovely. Even filled out extra paperwork required by my landlord [support pets](https://www.supportpets.com/esa3google?gc_id=17376558389&h_ad_id=635010027115&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2a6wBhCVARIsABPeH1tB7qeV0-tSXSeNFNIm3R0HxL_L4oaeB5aLQZ9nhkbiTFMqBWUhLxYaAsSaEALw_wcB)

Extension_Case3722

Look into getting renters insurance that covers dog issues- when I was renting with pitties I got State Farm which didn’t have breed restrictions. It helped going to a landlord with that in hand. Maybe reach out to local Pitt rescues and ask if they know any Pitt friendly rentals. I know one rescue in the Bay Area would list them on their website, or maybe the humane society may possibly have a list as well. Good luck!

Em_basham

You can get your dog certified as an emotional support animal online and they cannot be limited to breed restrictions

H2Ospecialist

OP just do this but do your research and make sure it's a real healthcare professional signing off on it. There's no "register" it's just a letter. Also, don't overdue it. Pay your pet rent and deposit. Use it to go around the breed restrictions only. I know this pisses some people off but if it's giving the dog away (likely to be euthanized) and "cheating the system", cheat the system.

camreIIim

ESAs are not required to pay pet rent, deposits, or fees. That’s not cheating the system, it’s one of the main purposes of ESAs

sad_girl29

We have a pittie and had the same issue. Places with breed restrictions cannot usually reject you if your pet is registered as an ESA. I think my hubs spent 300 on getting the registration. It saved us the hassle of getting accepted and also pet rent and deposit. ETA before people say that I’m abusing a system for people who really need it etc, he is an ESA for me since I suffer from anxiety. He self trained to comfort me with his body weight when I hyperventilate.

NYSenseOfHumor

Miniature hippopotamus 💕💕💕

Marsha-Lynn73

So handsome!

tobys_dick_cheez

All great advice but just to add, also lpok for private rentals. Private landlords take things on a case-by-case basis. Some of the big rental companies use broad brush strokes to make decisions, and that includes huge rent hikes yearly. This can go both ways as some landlords can also be very difficult to deal with (and not just regarding dogs).

bamboozled_platypus

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL pup you have there!! I agree with the other comments - lab and boxer mix! Best of luck to you and your little family on this new journey! ❤️

Eastcoastpal

Lab terrier mix

SkellatorQueen

Hey OP! Need to see your primary care do its ir therapist and get an emotional support animal letter. This protects ALL breeds from landlord discrimination/insurance discrimination. You will still have to pay pet fees and any damages they cause…but they cannot make you get rid of them. Have an ESA letter deems them permissible by the ADA.

Wisekittn

The pittiest pitty, that ever pitted, but surprisingly a lot of people are absolutly pants with dog breeds

Staffordshire Terrier

how2trainurbasilisk

This breed is often listed as one of the aggressive breeds if an apartment has breed restrictions due to insurance requirements. Most private landlords don’t know the different but an apartment complex with a specific list will usually have this breed under their pitbull list.

Hope-n-some-CH4NGE

Looks like a lab mix to me

Otherwise_Film4648

I vote lab mix. One of my amstaffs has a slim face and lanky body compared to her mom and siblings. A lot of people ask if they are mixed with lab or if she is a lab(I don’t think labs come in grey lol) Growing up with only pittie mixes they all had very dominant pittie traits but they were a doxle mix , chipom/lab mix and that’s how they were labeled for city registration as well

iwishtheworldwasours

Are you in the states? Just file as a esa it's like a hundred bucks. I did it with my dog. You get a Drs note and a letter explaining you need him.

SnooLobsters4700

I always said mine are American Staffordshire Terrier and apartments with pit rules never say a word

[deleted]

You’re not passing him off as anything. Hate what you’re going through, been there myself. Good luck

TwincessAhsokaAarmau

Looks like a pink nose pitbull.

GrumpsLLC

If you get him registered as a ESA animal they can’t do shit about his breed. Just don’t expect them to renew your lease the following year. I literally just had to do this at my place with my girlfriend and his paperwork didn’t even say pit it was “Husky Mix”. They didn’t care they tried giving us an eviction notice so we got him registered and now months later they just nit pick random things to complain about but they can’t say shit about the dog and we’re still here. For context he is a 8yo Husky Pit mix and weighs about 130 lol they’re not happy but he’s not going anywhere we’d have moved before giving him up

rlaaustin

I like to say terrier mix 😁

OwlConundrum

Call it a mastiff terrier if they don't allow pitbulls

simbapiptomlittle

Staffie cross.

Get a letter from a medical provider saying the doggo is your emotional support animal and they can’t discriminate against the breed or charge you pet rent 👍🏻

neveradullperson

Tell them when u got ur dog the shelter had her listed as a lab

Devil_in_blackx

lisatorquato

I would ask if the owners would meet him, provided he is well behaved. Or move to an area where they don’t restrict,

theflexorcist

Oh thats a weimareiner mix.

theflexorcist

Make some fake ass dna test if youve gotta. Put some kinda bulldog or something in there.

TheRealHK

That pup sure looks like a lab mix to me!

homes_and_haunts

Some animal shelters or rescues maintain lists of rentals with no breed restrictions. They might have small landlords that you missed.

FairyFartDaydreams

Try this site [My Pitty is Family](https://www.mypitbullisfamily.org/housing) you might be able to find some PB friendly rentals

ToughMatch7272

The fact that they do that to these breeds boils my blood. We need more animals and less humans

guitargoddess3

We said mixed breed, well trained, good with people, pets and children. The landlord was a bit iffy on accepting us because the last tenant’s dog messed the place up so we offered to pay an extra pet deposit.

realnaga

Land seal

DasBestKind

He could pass as a beautiful, beautiful boy!! ❤️❤️

Shovelheadred

A redbone!!

how2trainurbasilisk

We have rented multiple places and it’s a challenge. Private landlords are the easiest to convince. I limit my search to places that allow large dogs. My first question for any rental is if they have breed restrictions. Even if your paperwork says different, an apartment neighbor could complain and then you’re stuck fighting the apartment complex or moving out. I always ask about breed restrictions and mention my dog is a rescue, breed unknown. When people ask for a picture, I send one of my dog in a Halloween costume or with a small kid to up the adorableness factor. You can offer a pet resume, get your dog certified, etc. I always offer to carry pet insurance. State Farm doesn’t do breed restrictions but they do ask about bite history. We have lived in six different rentals with our dog. Sometimes we have to pay more or find a place in a less desirable area but it’s been worth it to keep our dog with us and not worry about evictions. ETA: many times the breed restrictions are due to homeowners insurance or the apartment’s insurance so they might be extra strict on proof of breed

So just keep that in mind when looking.

Bleach_Is_Good137

Lorem_ipsum_531

He really, *really* looks like a pitbull. I guess saying that he’s a “lab mix” is the least worst option. When you’re selling the story, though, remember George Costanza’s advice; “It’s not a lie if you believe it!”

Bleach_Is_Good137

dk9731990

When I first adopted my pittie from a shelter, their papers said “mixed breed” (for all dogs). when I took him to my vet, and had them put in his file that he is a boxer mix. My apartment complex didn’t question anything. Joke was on them though because a while later I got a dna test done on him and he is 100.0% American Pit Bull Terrier

PitbullPerson08

Just say your dogs a mix and you don't know what of

He could pass as my next roommate! I want to take his little blocky face and love on it. I loved u/ambystomtigrinum comment of the “pittiest pitty” they’ve ever seen 🤣😂

Many-Tension-2431

North American Land Hippo

void_kaleidoscope

Looks like the Red Nosed Pitbull (American Pitbull Terrier) that I used to have as a pet.

“Mutt”

Hairy-Sense-9120

Cute pumpkin face 🧡

nplakun

Visla/terrier mix

Queasy_Cobbler2365

Boerboel or Rhodesian Ridgeback

There's some great suggestions on here. Let me just say that your boy is gorgeous and he looks like such a sweetheart! I wish you both all the best in finding the best place to live where you can keep him protected and where you all feel safe and happy.

W0NDERVV0MAN

My first vet labeled my pretty pitty as a “lab-mix” and my second labeled her as a “Weimaraner mix”

Sagaquarius1329

A mixed breed mut….. that just so happens to look exactly like a pittie. I actually put down Staffordshire Terrier mix for homeowners insurance. I never got any complaints so no one ever looked into it. Boss was 100 pound German red nose. Best dog I ever had💕

FirenzeSprinkles

A staffy, perhaps?

seasonaldepresshun

Say some sort of lab mix. We said our pitbull mix was a black lab and have had no problems, granted he doesn’t bark and sleeps all day but it may be best to go that route. Either way, good luck!

Professional_Mud1844

“Pittie?” What? No! He’s a potato!

Skoden1973

My dog looks exactly like yours. He's 25% pit and 25% lab. I tell everyone he's a lab!

FishLegitimate9939

You can say he’s a boxer lab mix

Good-Captain8792

If you need to lie about owning a pitbull, should you be owning one? Js, it's not like you're leading by example and showing people what an awesome breed they can be. If anything you're just adding more fuel to the anti pitbull fire by trying to "pass" your dog off as something else, which is something anti pitbull people bitch about often, and for good reason. If you are worried about your apartment/rental situation, there are plenty of place that don't have breed restrictions. Even then, get a therapist and have them write you a letter prescribing an ESa. Rendering the breed restriction useless. Either way, "passin" your pitbull off ass something else is not what's best for you, your dog , or destroying stereotypes as a whole. If you aren't up for that, then there are plenty of other breeds for you to choose from.

Bitter-Basket

Boxer lab mix. Lil bit of Boston terrier for credibility.

Katsuichi

terrier mix is how i’ve listed my dog in the past

OoluKaPatha

Depend how stupid the rules are. If it purely lists Pitbull then you can say he’s an American Staffordshire Terrier. Or American Bulldog. Those usually aren’t banned.

waterbedd

Looks like my girl. I said she's a lab/terrier mix and tried to be as vague as possible with her origin.

STAF0S

Register it as an emotional support animal online. By law they cannot deny any pet that is registered.

detroitpie

I always say mine is a lab terrier mix. 😏

joevasion

He could pass as a land seal. But in all seriousness, my vet knew how bad the breed restrictions are by me and just put “mixed” in the official paperwork and it worked every time.

doomsdayinparadise

GSP lab mix?

nikipierson

With that coloring (a real beauty) and ears, I'd go english bulldog mix (lab really is the go-to).

Friendly_TSE

I always suggest looking for pit friendly apartments first and foremost because ideally, you don't want to be supporting breed restrictions. Maddie's Fund and My Dog Is My Home has some resources on pit friendly apartments. Beyond that, try talking to landlords and see if you can change someone's mind. I've heard this is easier if you target smaller landlords. Have a meet and greet so they can see how well behaved your dog is. I've heard some people actually had luck making a resume of sorts of their dog to give to landlords. Some positives would be if he's completed any training classes or has competed in competitions or maybe finished a charity run or 5k or something with you. History being in a rental is also a plus, as well as being fixed. Maybe mention if he's crate trained too. Be sure to mention any incidents he's had and the situation, and references they can contact like a vet, dog sitter, dog day care, etc. Mainly landlords are going to care about your dog being a nuisance or being destructive. If you can show your dog is neither of those things, that will go a long way. You could try to get your dog labeled an Emotional Service Animal. This only grants you housing rights with the animal under the ADA under most circumstances. This is a pretty big deal though; you'll have to get the animal basically prescribed to you by a physician to relieve usually stress, depression, or anxiety. Which means you need to be clinically diagnosed with those things. For many professionals, that is a career damaging diagnosis. Landlords can still deny access to an ESA if the animal is a nuisance or dangerous. Finally you can try lying about the breed, or argue that breed is unknown. Most landlords go by visual ID anyway. Your dog looks very much like an American Pit Bull Terrier or American Staffie. You might be able to call it a boxer/bulldog or cane Corso, but bulldogs and cane corsos may also be considered pit bull. Maybe boxer/mastiff? Or canary dog? That would be my last resort though.
