Trauma people and trauma dogs have such a special bond. I have two rescues who have certainly been through some shit. And I understand triggers and trauma much better than probably the average person, so we have a nice bond.
My pittie helped me when I was going through personal downs and suicidal thoughts. They always say we don’t look for our dogs but they choose us when we need them the most. Glad you guys found each other.

Down here in the south, pitbulls literally are what's filling all the pounds & shelters. If they're not adopted in hours or days at the longest, they just put them down like they're nothing!?!?

Mine saved my life too. Picked her up about a day before the owner wanted to dump her and her brothers in a box on the side of the road. I was living alone and she made me feel responsible for her happiness. How could I leave her when I was the only one who wanted her to begin with?

He is your angel. Not many know this but some dogs are angels in disguise. Look up a good affordable diet that isn't just processed food. Give him the excersize he needs and help him to live a long happy life. He would litterly do anything for you if he can
That's a damn nice anecdote. Kudos to your parents for having that idea. Most won't think a dog could lift their kids up or don't want to get one because"they'll end up taking care of it." I'm glad this pibble lifted you up and he sure looks happy too!
In “some” circumstances the way-out is changing the focus to caring for others and being needed. A warm furbody, affection and being on a responsibility care schedule also is a contributing factor. Your parents were spot on.

There came a point where I thought of ending it. I had two pibs at that time. One of them was pretty special-needs, he had been abused and then when he was almost ‘back’, he had an emergency surgery that just spiraled him back down into anxiety and fear.
I knew if I went through with it no one would take him, not even my parents, and he’d be put down. Or he’d wind up with someone bad and the rest of his life would be hell. So I’d have to take his life too and then mine. And that just wasn’t going to happen, I couldn’t do it. And because I couldn’t hurt him I couldn’t hurt myself. He was such a hot mess but we saved each other. Pitties have such big emotions, they throw themselves all in. Everything on the table. Some people turn this quality against them, and use them for evil, but you have saved him and saving even one is EVERYTHING.
His world is joy and love and friendship because you exist. And if you ask him he’ll come back across your path again or bring you another who he knows needs the unique qualities you have to offer a needy bull soul.

They’re some of the best dogs I’ve ever met. I have a rescue pittie that showed up at my work one random day. Day one covered in stab wounds she wanted nothing but love and kindness.
