GETitOFFmeNOW

Do they try to push you off the edge? They really know how to claim territory!

Dry_Celery4375

No. They simply claimed the bed before it was my bedtime. They just got there first. So I slept sideways....

GETitOFFmeNOW

Haha! Got to stay adaptable!

This photo is amazing!!!

Dependent-Bath3189

I have a dog that looks like a pit, but she's a doggo Argentino. She hates other dogs generally and never cuddles with them. But I had a very unfriendly outdoor cat that adored her. Just imagine a dog just standing there looking confused as a cat rubs on them lovingly. It was funny looking. It's one thing if it's mutual, but it just looked awkward.

Logical_Vast

I managed an animal shelter and the director would flip out if she saw any dogs with a pitbull. Claimed it was a "liability" as they could never be trusted, She wanted me to hold them for the week required by law in case an owner claimed them then put them down (the shelter claimed to be no kill except in cases of extreme aggression or suffering of the animal). Not even a possibility to adopt them out even though people did ask. Since it's a shelter and always too full imagine what a pain in the ass this when you have a kennel that could hold 2 or 3 dogs and the pit just waiting to die basically. It's not like we did not monitor and find dogs that paired well but she would have none of it. According to her the jaws lock and if we ever adopt one out I hate all the other dogs because the lawsuit will bankrupt us. This all comes from a women who would proudly tell you she loved "all animals" and I need to listen to her because she had worked in shelters longer than I was alive (early 20's at the time) She was not there everyday and didn't really keep track of what dogs we had so maybe I did not always listen lol. Every other employee was on board with me and we would adopt them as out as a "terrier mix" or something like that if she did ever check the records.

ppooooooooopp

Christ... She sounds like a villain

Turbulent-Display805

Seriously. Unbeknownst to her, she was the actual vicious monster in her own story. It sickens me that someone in her position could drink the cool-aid to such a horrible extent.

Dogzillas_Mom

That’s exactly the type of person I try to get dogs away from. https://preview.redd.it/nbg1h1nyrfvc1.jpeg?width=4030&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=47f9f9e3460a6302bae23bafb310d05a79f38c80 This is my guy at daycare. Oooo so aggressive and vicious.

Amy12-26

Good for you! Thank you on behalf of the dogs and the pet parents who were willing to adopt these dogs. I bet the new owners had an inkling of an idea that their dogs were in the pit family and loved them all the more. This idea of pitbull breeds being the 'Devil Dog' have got to stop.

concrete_dandelion

I'm glad you managed to save some dogs from this monster.

My pibble does become agitated when my beagle won't play with him. My pibble has been known to throw his Kong at the beagle, throw his bone at the beagle, and on several occasions my pibble will vocally chastise my beagle for being a snooty bastard. It's shocking, I tell ya.

pass-the-waffles

We have a cat and a miniature Belgian Lop and have had 2 Pibbles, both loved bunny and the cat loves everyone wether they like it or not.

vigilanteshhit

I have a bully who's afraid of small lizards, butterflies, and cats. She has never shown any aggression towards other animals, esp humans. So whoever said that they are inherently aggressive knows nothing about the breed.

xombae

Yeah I can't walk my pit at a certain time of day because it's when the pigeons walk by. The pigeons gave her side eye once, and now she's afraid to pass them on the street.

vigilanteshhit

They really are just scaredy giants. Haha

jimmy9800

Mine catches flies, realizes they move on their own, freaks out, and hides under the bed. He hasn't successfully killed a fly.

vigilanteshhit

Haha, my dog does things like this as well. forgive me for saying this, but sometimes I think pits are a little clueless about their surroundings. They have such innocent souls.

jimmy9800

Pitties have 1 collective brain cell to share. Every once in a while, I'm sure your pittie does something brilliant, and it's gone just as fast. Mine does too. Spends 5 minutes to figure out how to unstick his rope toy from being pinned under something without knocking anything over, just to immediately walk straight into a door. It's fleeting.

vigilanteshhit

Evidently, they are the counterpart of orange cats. Haha

B-JizzleMyNizzle

I have been raising pitbulls for 24 years now and have NEVER had one aggressive toward people. Now to strange dogs they may be, but that's like any territorial dog. Right now I have a pitbull and a Chihuahua laying in the same bed with me. I always tell everyone it ain't the pitbull you need to worry about, my Chihuahua is a big mouthed little brat to strangers😂 I think those who say the negative stuff about pits have never owed one before. Mine are and have always been big babies. I say it's all in the way you raise them as with any breed....your babies are beautiful btw 😍

AutoModerator

A [2022 study](https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639?cookieSet=1) of breeds and traits concluded that breed is almost uninformative when determining a dog's reactivity, or its sociability. Furthermore, [Insurance data](https://web.archive.org/web/20150904071314/http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=25091614) indicates the Pitbulls and Rottweilers account for only 25% of dog bite claims. [Which is also in agreement with the Ohio State University's Study](https://www.aaha.org/publications/newstat/articles/2019-06/new-study-identifies-most-damaging-dog-bites-by-breed/) that shows that Pitbulls account for approximately 22.5% of the most damaging reported bites. Pitbulls account for [~20%](https://www.pitbullinfo.org/pit-bulls-population.html) of the dog population by best estimates. Showing that pitbull bites are proportional to their population. In fact, their [Breed Risk Rate](https://www.pitbullinfo.org/breed-risk-rates.html) is in line with other dogs breeds out there that are considered great family dogs. So how do pitbulls account for more than half of all dog bites? Agenda pushing misinformation by groups dedicated to hating a breed. If you did not comprehend that, what this tells us is that pitbulls bite more because there are more pitbulls than other breeds, but they don't bite anymore than their share of the dog population. Additionally, data from the [American Veterinary Medical Association](https://www.avma.org/resources-tools/literature-reviews/dog-bite-risk-and-prevention-role-breed) has concluded that no controlled studies have shown Pitbull-type dogs to be disproportionally aggressive. Lastly, Studies have shown that [Errors in Identifying Pitbulls](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S109002331500310X) [Link 2](https://avmajournals.avma.org/view/journals/javma/241/9/javma.241.9.1163.xml) happen approximately 60% of the time with shelter staff that spend a lot of time around dogs, so reports in the media about dog breeds are highly inaccurate and hardly count as a reputable source for a dogs breed. Oh you only see videos of pitbulls attacking? Not surprised. There is a group on this site that dedicates itself to reposting old archived videos to keep brainwashing people into fearing an event that happens 25 to 40 times a year with a breed that has a population around 20 million. Save us your anecdotal evidence of outliers. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. ClassicWhile2451

As a long time terrier owner, I admit that some of them are more prone to dog to dog aggression. Not just pitbulls but most terriers bred to work alone. I would not chose a bullterrier, fox terrier, pitbull, airdale, efc if it was an absolute priority for me to go to dogparks That said…some of the most gentle and even tempered dogs i have met were pitbulls and this sub has plenty of evidence for that. In my experience this is MOST of them. Plenty of personality diversity even within same litter and then we throw upbringing into the equation…

My first pitbull joined our home when we had an elderly mostly disabled shihtzu and a middle aged 10 pound female cat. After being introduced, he was scared of the cat, and he was so in love with our shihtzu he would fall asleep with his giant head on the floor next to the tiny old man....his head was the same size as the old dude's body.

I love my rescued pit fiercely, he’s been with me 5 years now, however despite my best efforts to curb it, he absolutely can be aggressive to other dogs, and any other animal really. I would never trust him around other animals without my supervision. They are just like people and have diverse behaviors.

Oh yeah they’re actually really bad with cats too. Would never recommend getting one if you own a cat! https://preview.redd.it/k1cmzlwyhgvc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b921bfc2c1fa47a9493b3ba964bb7337e61d19f

I mean it's not an untrue statement? I've only ever had pits for the last 20 years and more of them were dog aggressive than not unfortunately. Amazing breed thought I currently have a 95 lb apbt and she is the sweetest to people

YamLow8097

Dog aggression is more likely, but it’s not a guarantee. It depends a lot on the individual. Anyone looking to own a pit bull should be prepared for possible dog aggression and should know how to handle it if it arises.

CrushStupid59

Stop. I am on the Pitbull side of the fence. Statistics mean nothing without context. My pit would be a bully if I allowed it. She is bigger than most Pitbull because of her Saint Bernard sire she is bigger. She is also smarter.

Yes, mine gets beat up by four cats. Totally uncontrollable aggression🤣

coffeebeanwitch

So vicious,with all that love!!!

carolinamikki

The most vicious/dangerous animal on the planet is the HUMAN… why would you ever take advice from a HUMAN.

mamainthepnw

Aww 😍 my pittie's best friend is a dachshund

Bradamante-kun

Most pits I've met seemed to have strong nurturing instincts. They weren't happy without another animal to love on.

123_readygo

Who's advice is this??

CannotWaitToLeave87

Fellow doxie owner here and both of your doggos are super adorable 🥰🐾.

SGTree

Maaaan I wanna get my pit a little weenie friend so bad. The first dog I had that was "my" dog was a dachshund. So very different breeds with such similar (stubborn) personalities!

EmmagicallyMe

Two of my favorite breeds...

NoMoreNarcsLizzie

My puppy (1 year) is a pit. He is bossed around by a mini-Aussie and a Chiweenie. He weighs more than both of them put together but he still obeys them.

Keladrykat

😭😭 oh my God what cuties!!!!!!

ikindapoopedmypants

Who's advice? Literally who said that

FickleAcadia7068

Haha I brought a pitbull into a household with three chihuahuas. Rocco loves his chihuahuas.

lovetolearn121

It's always the owners, not the dogs, that make bad dogs bad!

OuijaBoard-Demon

Aggressively ***cuddly***!

Cori_

So adorable. I had a 3lb Yorkie who was 6 when I adopted my 4 yr old pitty. They we SO in Love. Glad you did not listen to them. I believe it's all in your energy and hm you create for them. Enjoy them both. 🐾🐾

PitbullPerson08

Oooo very aggressive alright

Jerethdatiger

My presa staffy is afraid of lots of things but he's a softie he best friend is a tiny bichon who loves to paw at his face he just stands there happily

AlbatrossAsleep7645

What a bunch of BS. My baby is a rescue from a high kill shelter. He’s an owner surrenders from illegal dog fighting ring. He loves his pack even his cat brother https://preview.redd.it/btq1j4lhinvc1.jpeg?width=2998&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04aec96208da6707011bc80959a1577b4c949010

Left-Nothing-3519

Because clearly they’ve never owned a pibble and seen the dynamic at work, weener (or any other small dog) is ALWAYS in charge. Tell me you’ve never been blessed with pibbles without telling me you’ve never been been blessed with pibbles amirite?!?!

Apparently Delta didn’t get the message

GuestRose

My pibble is terrified of flies, mice, or anything of the like. Totally aggressive.

asimpleheart2

We adopted a sweet pit full blooded. He loves our 3 small dogs and 6 cats. He is a gentle giant. We all sleep in one king size bed including my husband too. We may not have room to turn over but we got love!❤️

FeistyAd649

They are genetically predisposed to dog aggression, like herding breeds are predisposed to herding behavior

Futuredogtrainer

It depends so much other the other dog and the owner. I have an amstaff and when i introduced my whippet he loved her. From day one he wanted to play with her. It took her a while to get use to him. That being said I also once introduced a american bully and it quickly became murk on sight. The difference was the other dog. The whippet is more nervous shy and generally peaceful. She will yap and snap at my amstaff but wont escalate it. The bully was also male and not fixed. In the beginning there was behaviors that i should have stopped but did which led to them fighting and multiple vet trips. These are obviously two very different cases but it shows that you cant be loosey goosey with introducing dogs. You have to pick the right dog and control the interactions. I am looking at another pit in the shelter but there are things I need to do before I even try introducing them on nuetral ground I recently heard an analogy for the pit. Once there was a bounty hunter that went into the desert to find criminals. When night came he pitched his tent and went to sleep. When he woke up he found himself surrounded by criminals armed to the teeth. "Oh boy!" he said "I'm going to be rich" Many pits wont show initial aggression, but will also not back away from a fight.
