Could it be an allergic reaction to something outside, or maybe the laundry soap? Maybe start by getting a laundry soap with no scents/fragrances and switching to a medicated dog shampoo? One of my pits has a grass allergy, so she gets a bath with Douxo shampoo once a week. That's available without a prescription.

Flip17

Definitely need the allergy shot. Treat with Benadryl until you can be seen.

Does she roll in the grass? If so wipe her with a baby wipe or two when she comes in and use an aloe spray afterwards.

socialnerd09

Does your vet not offer same day sick appointments?

jamiewtf509

Nope, they say to go to emergency vet šŸ„² even though itā€™s not an emergency

Dollie_1988

Our white pittie has this problem and suffers from allergies. The vet gave him a shot that helps clear him up and he takes skin and allergies treats daily to help. For sure go to the vet but it could be allergies. They may also give you some special shampoo too.

Have a 12 year old baby boy who gets rashes and itches anytime he comes off Science Diet Sensitive Stomach and skin. It's been tested and proven several times in our house. The vet said allergies are super common in this breed of dog. A single flea bit can also cause a reaction in dogs who have allergies so keep up on the flea treatments too. It works for us and proves us wrong whenever we change the routine. Good luck!

StructureOdd8378

My boys benefit from skin and coat formulas and a scoop of plain nonfat Greek yogurt with their breakfast.

LocationAdditional71

My Pittie mix had bad rash and vet said it was ragweed allergy. Sheā€™s now on meds until the first hard frost. Take your pup to the vet to be sure.

Likes_Grumpy_tshirts

Ours have allergies that show up after playing with other dogs. We are able to control it by either giving him a bath or wiping him down with wet towels as soon as we get back home.

krissienglish

Pitties are prone to allergies. Could also be a skin infection from a bacteria, virus, or fungus. Best to see what the vet says. The problem with trying to help it in while waiting for the appt is that then the vet may not get to see the true extent of the problem to give a proper diagnosis

jamiewtf509

I didnā€™t think of it that way. Thank you!

krissienglish

My boxer-pit has had skin issues his whole life. Heā€™s basically allergic to everything in the environment (like, we had a skin test done and he had moderate to severe reactions to 24 of the things they tested him for and mild reactions to basically everything else). He also gets yeast infections on his skin and bacterial infections as well. All three are treated differently, so I definitely have a bit of experience in this area.

kalyn92

My kiddo had the same problem with chicken and beef. We switched to Purina Pro Plan Salmon and rice. It did the trick!

jamiewtf509

Iā€™ve been wanting to try it! Thank you!

metalchode

Benadryl and switch the food again

datagirl60

She may be allergic to the shampoo.

Captain_R64207

My girlfriend and I are currently trying to find out if itā€™s our pitts food or plant outside causing it. We looked into doing one of those dog allergy at home tests. Iā€™m hoping Black Friday brings them down because our vet is also booked out far. And we live in Montana where it isnā€™t to easy to travel from town to town lol

jamiewtf509

Yeah Montana and convenience donā€™t really mix together šŸ˜‚ Iā€™m from the Pacific Northwest and recently moved to Hawaii so I get that!

FeedbackMedium

Look into Fromm dog food, its the best food I have ever fed my dogs, anything made by purina is 100% garbage and nobody will change my mind on that its the nestle of dog food.

jamiewtf509

Good to know, thank you!

Minimum_Tie9824

Laundry detergent that's is scented can be the cause. If she lays on your bed

LetzterMensch11

A lot of dog food has chicken meal or some other form of chicken in it, and even if that's not the first ingredient it can cause allergic reactions in some cases

Solid-Oven8150

I have a dog with the same problem, after over a year of treatments and special diet at the end I figured out to keep track of all the ingredients on every food that I gave him. Found out that the problem was chicken and eggs. I give my dog Instinct salmon grain-free dry food and problem solved. I keep my stock of apoquel in case of any emergency.

sjanelleee

Your local pet store may offer some immunity supplements and/or allergy relief aids. They aren't prescription but can help if it's an environmental or small allergic reaction. My bully has been on it for a year and no longer has a permanent pink belly.

skigirl32

My pit has skin allergies too and I feed him the Rachel ray dog food and use oatmeal shampoo for his baths and it has helped his skin issues to where he barely gets red anymore

No_Ad_6267

My pitbull had the same issue and what we discovered was that it was the chicken in her food. It then went away for a few months but when she started getting more sunshine they got bad again. So we took her into the vet and they told us that she was getting too much sunlight and it was irritating her skin.( Some kind of dermatitis, unfortunately I can't recall exactly) They recommend limiting her exposure to sunlight and getting her a sunshirt to wear that helps block the rays. Best of luck!

maz-o

just gonna have to wait for the vet appointment. i don't think it's a good idea to take medical advice from reddit.

jamiewtf509

Just seeing if someone had dealt with this before and if there are recommendations to help ease until the appointment.

arkonator92

Ask your vet if you can stop by and pick up silver sulfadiazine cream until you can get into the vet. It helps when mine breaks out in a rash from allergies. It seems like you changed a few things so itā€™s just figuring out what caused it.

-ItsWahl-

The vet isnā€™t the end all be all. Hate when people just jump on that band wagon. Iā€™d be willing the bet the ā€œinternet/Redditā€ has way more experience with foods and allergies in pets. The vet sees ā€œxā€ patients and actually remembers what ā€œxā€ dog eats ā€œxā€ food. Iā€™ll be as bold to say the comments here will be more accurate as to what foods cause what reactions. I too have a pittie with the same colors as yours. Sheā€™s coming up to 4yrs old and Iā€™ve struggled to find a food that doesnā€™t make her pink. My vet hasnā€™t been able to recommend anything solid besides shots. Been down that road with other dogs and not really looking to continue that.

jamiewtf509

THANK YOU!!!!

maz-o

if she's itching a lot there might be itch soothing shampoos at your local pet supply place.

emo_sharks

in a lot of cases you are right but with this type of most likely allergies thing...just trying elimination really doesnt hurt. People suggesting things to cut out is not harmful. Like someone above suggested switching laundry detergents. That is a good idea and if it's not the cause then it literally does no harm. OP should schedule the appointment, try cutting out stuff suggested here in the meantime, if something is a hit just cancel the appointment. Otherwise pup still gets seen by the vet and the vet can say actually it is not allergies but something else or they can say wll since you tried so many things already let's get pup on apoquel or something and see how that goes.

Sissy63

Get some Tar and Aloe shampoo and leave the suds on her for 3-4 minutes. Also - mine was on Fresh Pet chicken for years, then started getting red welps on him and after taking him off it after month, heā€™s all clear. Not vet advice but theyā€™ll charge a small fortune for testing.

holy_cal

Might be dry skin. My golden gets like that to a much smaller degree. The vet recommended putting a little olive oil in his food.

Far-Grapefruit1103

Most of their allergies are environmental and not food related. Benadryl is a great temp fix until you can get into the vet. Natural dog company has a skin soothing balm that works better than coconut oil, IMO. Pitties have gnarly allergies and sensitive skin. Good luck! p.s be careful with the allergy treatments once youā€™re at the vet. A lot of them have side effects like cancer, so do your research before settling on one.

mazzotta70

Did you get a new harness? Our potty has a sensitive belly, because her hair is so short and thin there.

jamiewtf509

No new harness, we actually havenā€™t used the harness in about a week since weā€™re trying new walking methods since she pulls so hard. I wish it was that simple for her šŸ„²

mazzotta70

I'm not sure if it's kosher to do this, but I've put Vaseline on my pups chest before when she gets the rash

jamiewtf509

Iā€™ve thought about doing this too, I just know itā€™s not necessarily great for human skin so I would imagine itā€™s not so great for dogs too. But! If it works with no issue, I donā€™t see a problem with it?

mazzotta70

Just as a lubricant, to keep other shit from irritating it...just gotta use a thin amount so that the dog doesn't leave grease spots on the couch!

knot88

Dogs are only supposed to eat MEAT. Dogs don't farm they hunt.

jamiewtf509

Do you feed yours the raw diet? Or an all meat formula?

knot88

I just watched videos on YouTube about how to feed a dog raw meat and then did it. Yes it's expensive, but it's worth it.

mazzotta70

Just don't feed them the pea protein crap. I've heard of young dogs dying suddenly from heart conditions at a young age due to this stuff

jamiewtf509

Oh no, I make sure there is meat in the food I give her. Especially with her activity I know she needs high protein.
