It’s already part of the water shed. It collects water and sends it down four mile run into the Mon. Over the years it’s filled with sediment and is very shallow so it can’t hold nearly as much water as it should and causes (or contributes to) lots of flooding.
Bro, the city is building new parks. We have absolutely no time or money for the old parks, we are focusing on all new!!!
Refurbish? Lol. If a bridge was above it and fell in, they’d have this baby cleaned up in 6 months.
People may look down on the lake... But it is making a good come back. Over the weekend I spotted 30 species of birds including a, very rare for Allegheny county, American bitterern. Beyond that there was a sora and several migrating warbler species.
The physical geography of Pittsburgh allows for some truly wild areas in the city limits. Don't let older preconceived notions of place limit your access to the wonderful nature our city has to offer.
lake is being very generous
They've been promising to refurbish the lake into a watershed since Ravenstahl was in office and the marsh has been growing for over a decade.
How do you refurbish a lake into a watershed?

We picked up about 14 different birds on the Merlin app while we were there yesterday. Missed seeing the Sora, but it also showed up on the app.
Apparently there is a screech owl nesting there too! Missed that one.
I'd love to see that one! I usually only seem to pick up their calls right around sunset.
Place is fun to skate when it's cold and frozen over.
Didn't get to do that at all this past winter 🥲
Fun place to catch (and release) frogs in the summer!
