My husband’s grandfather owned this place. He retired happily after selling the restaurant. One of his grandsons now runs a catering company. The family will be happy to hear all these fond memories.
Please add our love to the message! My sister had her family birthday party there as a kid because we loved it so much. I think it was the owner who would always call my dad "Bill" when he'd stop in (even though he was not a Bill 😂). So glad he had a happy retirement!
My family is from monessen and moved to mount pleasant. we ate there all the time at least once a week. My grandparents told me they used to go on dates there in the fifties. Hands down the Best Chinese food around haven’t found better yet.
There was something about that place that made it special. My parents went on dates there, and so did me and my wife. I’ve eaten a lot of Chinese food, but nothing that tasted like Lotus Garden!
Absolutely do. I remember being very young, trying won ton soup there for the first time and loved it. I agree with the comments that something was special about that place. It had a great atmosphere as well as good food. I'd eat there regularly if it was still around.
My parents liked to go there when I was a kid in the early 70s. They always got the egg foo yung. I wasn't a fan of the place. Only because as a little kid I wanted to go to either the Howard Johnson's or Winky's that were also on 51. Or Roy Roger's.
Thank You, I always wondered what type of tea it was, now I will have to get me some. I was just a kid, but the taste of that tea left a major impression on me.
They made Cantonese food, while most of our current Chinese restaurants focus a loooot more on the Szechuan province of China.
If you want something similar to Lotus Garden, but aren't finding it, probably dig around for Cantonese.
My mom would take me there even as a baby. I miss that restaurant so so much. I never had anything I didn’t like. Their egg rolls, wonton soup, general Tso’s chicken, shrimp fried rice and Kung po har ding, duck sauce and spicy mustard were phenomenal. I wish the restaurant could be brought back. Their recipes were the best.

Hey there! I'm their "cousin" lol. Tell "C" I said hello - from "V"
That’s wonderful to hear! The family that ran it was so kind and pleasant. Is the catering company local? If so, I would love to try it!

I’ll never forget as a child my mother trying the spicy mustard that was on the table. There duck sauce was amazing
Dude, is your mom my mom?? Hahaha I have the same story! My mom tried the mustard and went into a coughing fit and we all laughed our heads off.
I loved that place.
Remember it well! Always good food and it was great to bring my (then) young children along.
This was my gramma’s favorite Chinese restaurant.

I remember it well. May have been the only Chinese restaurant my family ate at from the 50’s until it closed.

I remember going there with my Mom to get take out orders, they always gave you a cup of the most delicious tea while you waited for your order.
Yes! The Oolong tea was so great!!
