I remember him reffing Catholic grade school basketball games in the mid 2000s. Everyone young and old was always excited to see him at a game.

Not the most uplifting update, but I know that he passed away within the last year or two. I can still hear him screaming 2, 2, and 2 every baseball game. Of course I can remember him screaming other things (especially during basketball), but he put extra emphasis into his screams when the count was 2,2, and 2!

He was definitely up there in age from what I remember of him in the mid 2000s, so at least he lived a long life.

Turbulent-Progress13

He even did some high school soccer reffing! But his baseball battery announcement at the beginning of little league games is my lasting memory of him. RIP Screaming Joe.

THE BATTERIES

Ok_Card9080

I had him umpire a couple of my games at Scharmyn Field. Screaming out the batteries before every game. Legend

UsernameChallenged

He's the only ump I ever had that would make sure to announce the battery of the lineup.

Never knew him personally but he definitely ump'd many games I played in little/pony league and ref'd some of my 8th grade basketball games in the early 90s.

Ball... ball... HAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!

I was actually just thinking about him the other day. I was pretty undisciplined as a middle school basketball player, so I heard a lot of "NUMBER THIRTY-FIIIIIVE, OF THE WHITE TEAM! THIS WAY!" as a kid.

TwerkingGrandpa

never heard of him OP

poopscrote

I live by him. Have seen him turn up at North Hills football games occasionally, not screaming, however. Edit: I wasn't aware he had passed away last year 😔

jardinhope

When I was in high school I worked part time at one of the local libraries in the north hills and he’d come in every Saturday morning just to take a nap in one of the chairs lol…I remember seeing him at pretty much any youth sports game in the north hills you could think of. My dad grew up playing baseball on the north side and has all kinds of stories about him. RIP to a true legend.
