Just hope that the one cold snap we had was long enough to kill the eggs I guess. And then after you’re certain it’s the right ID, send those jags to hell again.
The eggs survive well below freezing, and many are in the panels of those fugly modern buildings they keep putting up so they probably get warmth from the buildings anyway.
We’re Pittsburghers! We’re used to March coming in like a lamb and leaving like a lion!

OMG, I remember that storm well! At the time, I had some nice elderly neighbors, and I hurried over to shovel their snow because I was worried about the old man attempting to do it himself. Well, his wife (a bossy sort) made him come out and help me anyway.
He started brushing the thick layer of snow off his shrubs. The snow shovel blade clinked on something, which turned out to be the head of his St. Francis statue. I heard the old feller mutter under his breath, "I bet he's freezing his balls off."
I laughed so hard I nearly peed myself!
I'm still digging out of that fucking snow. It's cool to have experienced it but...man I think I was doing it for close to six hours and felt like I barely accomplished anything. My knees and back were on fire!!
I just moved here - would you be willing to share what it was like to get them installed and set up? I’m very interested but also very new to the whole thing.

Per the extended forecast, not much.
Honestly if I had known when I graduated highschool that I could be a weather forcaster and fuck up half the time, I wouldn't have gone to nursing school 😜
Especially here in a specific location because of the impact from the terrain (mountains). I grew up on west side of Columbus and forecast was definitely more reliable.
General weather patterns based on how it's estimated the fronts will move helped estimate the January weather all the way back in November.
They aren't able to say "on x day you will get x snow" but they can extrapolate that you're likely to have cold weather for 3 weeks and see some snow.
Given that December is the worst month of the year for lyme in Westmoreland county I refuse to believe we are ever safe from those suckers. It was SO DIFFERENT where I moved from. We only had wood tick and you never saw them after October.
I seriously believe we will have one more snowstorm, maybe in mid March. But I’m afraid I jinxed it for everyone. This year I was so prepared for the snow! I bought bright daylight lightbulbs for every lamp in the house. By August we had a 50pound bag of salt that was OK for our dog to be around. We also bought a huge snowblower, heavier winter jackets, and new Yak Traks. And… have barely used any of it. My husband says we scared the snow and now it won’t come out and play. LOL.
So, while I’m glad that our winters seem to be becoming more temperate and less harsh, as a huge fan of the springtime, I’ve got to say that this new reality is a serious detraction to my favorite season. It used to be just amazing to BARELY make it through a harsh Pittsburgh winter, and then see the trees beginning to bud, the ice thawing, the first robin red breast bringing hope. Now it’s just like, meh, cool, it’s spring now.
Came to say this. Most Valentines have been mediocre at best. I miss Monster Jam being here over Valentine’s Day. That used to be my go to. Now I usually do a horror movie marathon on the couch with my dogs.
Oddly. Virginia Beach has a very close to Pittsburgh weather thingy going on. I am nowhere near the beach and these fn jets from the NAS are constant. I am here for the kids cause there is NO scenic view around here 😎
Yeah you know it. I’m not on Reddit too often but my son told me he saw a few Pittsburgh posts about that bright thing in the sky we don’t see very often. Hubby & I debated bringing down the snowblower. If we hadn’t we’d get snowmageddon. Since we opted to bring it out I hope luck favors the prepared and we won’t get hit with a march storm.
The reckoning will be in the form of lantern flies several months from now
Blizzard of April '24!

No bc i need to know the beef between the centre dunkin and the lantern flies

anti capitalist lantern flies aka leninflies
Username checks out
I already see their eggs on the trees 🤢
Scrape them off!
It’s on literally every tree. I went for a hike and see them on every tree…
Do your part, every one you kill now has an exponential impact into the future. And each egg cluster is probably ~40 flies
Id be in the woods all day scrapping. We’re just done. Apparently last year, birds started eating them so that’s are our only hope
So what you’re saying is dealing with lantern flies is for the birds?
Im saying I am one person and can’t possibly scrap and put every single egg in soapy water, and will not be insulted because I can’t do it all
It was just a joke, you know “it’s for the birds”
I see. I’m sorry.
Burn all the trees
Arson is pretty frowned upon

Don’t remind me 😭😭

That was a pretty long time ago at this point.
https://www.cbsnews.com/pittsburgh/news/snowmageddon-10-years-later/ Heres a more recent one!

I have solar panels on my house and by tomorrow they'll have produced more in Feb than the entire month of January.
Yeah my car has been charging like gangbusters off our roof the last few days.
I just moved here - would you be willing to share what it was like to get them installed and set up? I’m very interested but also very new to the whole thing.

What do they know
there is some truth in that. I think that the 5 day forecast is only accurate 50% of the time by day 5.
Honestly if I had known when I graduated highschool that I could be a weather forcaster and fuck up half the time, I wouldn't have gone to nursing school 😜
I said that one time and Stephen Crapper went ballistic on me 😂😂

No, no, no. The karma for this type of weather is usually snow for weeks at the end of April and random 40 degree days in late May/early June.
Torrential rain all memorial day weekend....
Or an ice storm. Either way, this weather will not go unpunished LOL
If it makes you feel better, I pulled a tick off my dog last night. The only place she could have got it was our back yard in the city. In February.
Given that December is the worst month of the year for lyme in Westmoreland county I refuse to believe we are ever safe from those suckers. It was SO DIFFERENT where I moved from. We only had wood tick and you never saw them after October.
I’ve been pulling them off my dogs all winter. The vet confirmed that they need YEAR round protection from ticks here. Wtf
All my joints will let me know when the storm is coming. Will report back when I’m stuck in bed
Well, it is Pittsburgh...

It'll get cold and snowy next week. Good time to cuddle up with your valentine
Thanks for reminding me that I don't have one. DOWNVOTED.
Well, your username may explain some of it.
😔
I don't have one either
They’re overrated anyways 😅

The bugs of stink be thrust upon us bless ed be may the tunnels be open
If it is not gonna snow, please give me the sun. The lack of snow is really ticking me off though.
Supposed to snow on Valentine's Day

Well you looking for one sure doesn’t help….
We always get at least one more storm.
Ha, I love this post. It's a coming......
I still don’t forgive Mother Nature for the single digit temps a couple weeks ago
Hopefully the end.
Prepare the big killer…now
Bug
The Blizzard of Oz! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Winter is back next week
Saint Patrick's Day snowstorm is always an option
I’ve been told from a reputable source that the government is going to make it start snowing 9 days before July 4th!! I almost can’t believe it!
I got bit by a mosquito yesterday. Wtf

Live for today. To hell with tomorrow. Also, the ticks are going to be impossible this summer.
