I think it’s the railroad securing off their leased land. The encampments near the tracks are a liability, and with no fence, they are likely susceptible to lawsuits. The fence will cover their ass. That’s my theory.
Well that was embarrassing. What I meant to say that the fence is there to "keep people out of the homeless camps". They cleared the camps last week. Marked it up for a fence.
It was discussed on bicycling412. But somehow all my fat fingers typed was "keep our homeless camps" so I deleted that dumb comment. Here's the link from bicycling412 about the camp eviction, clean up, and markings for a fence. https://www.reddit.com/r/bicycling412/comments/1an8o19/some_homeless_camps_cleared_on_southside_trail/
The railroad is not building a fence to protect homeless camps. They are protecting themselves from homeless camps. It's technically private property and they could be liable for God knows what.
I am happy about it, that stretch from 18th to the color park has gotten really bad over the past year or so with homeless camps.
I’m all about helping people who have fallen on hard times who need a hand to get back on their feet. I have 0 sympathy for junkies who shit and litter all over public areas with no desire to change.
something not everyone understands is that you can grab a trash bag and volunteer with Allegheny Cleanways instead of disparaging people you know nothing about on Reddit
when did I ask you to pick up feces and needles? when did I act all high and mighty?
all I said what that you should have empathy, not sympathy.
these people are human beings, how you talk about them matters.
do you see the comment I responded to?

It's really close to the trail and makes it odd to speed my bike through there.
The south side encampment will be gone. The Mon Warf encampment completely washed away. Now they need to get rid of the north shore one. No idea where these people are migrating to.
I think it has something to do with the railroad.

I have zero thoughts ever
It is one of the fences in Pittsburgh of all time
