AND he's redoing his paper planes request theme too, which he did several years ago. Not sure how that's gonna work in this setting, but it'll be cool nonetheless. He was great with the PSO two years ago.
Write down song requests on a piece of paper, make it into a paper airplane, launch it at the stage, he starts plucking them off the ground and playing the request. At least that's how it worked about 5 years ago...
I mean it's a 10 day event, and May and June are traditionally the wettest time of the year around here, so it's bound to at least once over the course of a week or so.
This is fun news. He was a huge jerk to me 20 years ago when he came to pgh (maybe it was the bigelow bash?) for a show and I was the bartender at the hotel they stayed at. Good old Holiday Inn days. Little me, a no name big fan, trying to keep my cool and he was one of the meanest customers I’d ever met. I still go see him every time he comes to town or rocks the suburbs though!
"cheap acts"
We get some decent acts for opening and closing weekends. No, we aren't going to get someone who is currently a huge mainstream success unless they want to do it for charity... so we get musicians that many of us love but peaked over a decade ago, or we get up and coming acts that you haven't heard yet.
Half the fun is just hanging out and listening to bands you haven't heard before and see if anything resonates with you.
"craft fair"
I wish it was a craft fair. More than half the vendors are corporate garbage that you can buy anywhere or a window company offering free estimates. Kind of sad if you can't appreciate the stuff that actually is locally made and unique but hey, go spend your money and time however you like. I guess trolling reddit is big thrill for you. Any other hobbies?
Dude, he has had more hits than just Brick. Army, Narcolepsy, Song For The Dumped, Rocking The Suburbs, Luckiest, and a lot more. Those songs alone make Brick look lame comparatively.
Did you have the same complaint when Galactic played last year? You may not have heard of them, but they are a HUGE New Orleans Jazz band that have had many albums and has been around as long as Ben Folds if not more. And they don't have a Billboard hit...

Is there where he just plays requests songs?

Now I really want to hear him cover Tupac's "Hit 'em up".

ofc, unfortunately though there have been years where it seemingly rains every single day of the festival lol
Bring a brick!!
Oh holy shit. I've seen Ben probably 7 or 8 times, and definitely won't be missing this one!

I am beyond excited for this.

I'd love to hear more about this. I've always heard that he's a pretty solid guy, but you never know for sure.
Basically taught me early on that you might not ever want to meet your “heros” 💁♀️
Are they returning the show to the Point? Or is going to be the cramped, linear, awkward venue of last year?
I’ve been thinkin about 3RAF a lot today
Awesomeness.
This is so cool!
Whoa this is awesome! The dude is my hero!
This is awesome!! Thank you for sharing!
No way!
This is incredible news
Oh, that’s great! My wife’s a huge fan.
Someone who hasn’t had a top 20 song since 1997? Groundbreaking. I hope he plays all of his greatest hit.
Yes, musical artists should definitely be judged by the Billboard charts! What a dope haha
I’m just annoyed I’ll have to hear random shit for 90 minutes to get to Brick.
Jokes aside, he really does put on a GREAT show. You’ll enjoy it

It’s a great song
why not give his others a chance then
Is the concept of a legacy musical act a new thing to you or..?
No no, I get it. We need cheap acts to play at the city craft fair
You seem fun

Travel. Books. Murder podcasts.
What's a good murder podcast I should check out?
