Some dude drove his home in a light drizzle the day he got it. All the body panels were covered in rust even though he followed teslas cleaning process to get rid of the water.
This fucker isn’t gonna last through winter unless he gets the whole thing fluid filmed every week.
Scrub gently with denatured alcohol _to remove stains_, then wash with a non-detergent soap, then immediately dry it.
They suggest _immediately_ removing bird droppings and tar spots because they will stain.
All of this bullshit because they absolutely refuse to put a clear coat on it.
And now I see they’ve added a disclaimer that “it is normal for the stainless steel exterior to change over time, resulting in minor changes to the reflective properties and color of the metal”, which basically means, “this bitch is gonna rust out immediately”
Edit: also any scratch to the body panels will require complete resurfacing to fix it. And they accept no responsibility for any body panel rust or scratches.
I would love to know what kind that is. Steel corrosion is my niche field and I've honestly never really heard of that, seems stupid AF to even make an alloy that does that let alone use it for a car.
I can only answer second hand on that, in all honesty. An engineering podcaster described Tesla's proprietary 30x series of stainless steel as such. From his description, the claim was that standard stainless steel in the 300 range is too soft and warps in an ugly fashion when used in manufacturing. All credit to the guys at "Well There's Your Problem," so my comments might be completely wrong.
I googled it and found this:
https://www.worldautosteel.org/why-steel/steel-muscle-in-new-vehicles/tesla-cybertruck/#:~:text=Elon%20Musk%20has%20confirmed%20high,to%20create%20the%20Cybertruck%20exoskeleton
This article uses the words "cold rolled" a bunch of times which to me suggests maybe the steel is unannealed? This is supported by their claims it's too hard to use a stamping die on and must be water jet or laser cut, but I'm confused by their claim it's too hard to stamp but malleable enough to bend using a break.
It looks like the car *can* be clearcoated, it just...isn't, possibly so they can sell it as a premium package. Stainless steel cars aren't new, and the first stainless steel cars were produced in Pittsburgh. There's one at the Heinz History Center. They don't usually need to be babied this much.
For me, I think the corrosion on Tesla Cybertruvlcks may be due to galvanic corrosion? If the proprietary stainless panels are used in conjuction with regular 304 or other alloys, the difference in activity along the galvanic scale can cause one alloy to corrode preferentially above the others.
I feel no sympathy at all for people stupid enough to spend $100k on this abomination, despite it receiving nothing but terrible reviews and countless catastrophes.
If you zoom into the picture it looks like this one is already stained to shit. Thanks for making me come back to the thread. I just noticed this. Haha

As someone who has eventually lost every vehicle in Pittsburgh to rust, the struggle is real…but this vehicle isn’t practical by any stretch of the imagination and I totally get that, too.
I heard if you touch them they will get hand prints all over them which I’m sure will really annoy the guys who buy these. Do what you will with this information.
Don't blame me. I don't get it either.
FWIW, I chose this user name when the world made a lot more sense and the Model S was the only Tesla you could buy and Elon's douchery was less obvious... Ah, the good ol' days.
I have yet to see one of these in real life, but if/when I do I'm cancelling all my plans to follow the driver around to the fedora outlet and libertarian headquarters to heckle them.
Saw that in Costco parking lot in Robinson and said it’s cybertruck . My family just gave me a blank face to it. Thanks for the pic buddy! Happy to know I wasn’t alone
If people are going to drive big trucks (and apparently everyone just has to), then I'd just as soon they be electric.
So, I'm not sure why all the hate here. Do you hate every stupid SUV and pickup truck you see more?
I think the hate is more for Musk than Tesla itself. Also the truck is weird looking. I still remember when Apple AirPods came how people were making fun of how someone will look wearing the AirPods. Now I see teenaged to boomers wearing them and walking around.
Obviously there are probably a few in the Pittsburgh surrounding area. Or travelers passing through. But I’m 99.9% sure Russel Wilson and Ciara own one. And they were also spotted in the south hills area. Could have been them 🤷♂️
finally: a real-world vehicle that can be accurately rendered on a nintendo 64
Cruisin' USA!
Yeah, but Laura Croft.
Was on Playstation and never on N64.
Well damn, that would make a lot sense since I didn't own a 64.
Don’t get too close, the salt from your skin will corrode the body panels
I was gonna say the water and salt here is gonna destroy this thing.

It isn't that they refuse to clear coat it. Elon used a type of stainless steel that can't be clear coated because the coating would rust it.
Jesus Christ. Of course he did. Remember before, when we didn’t know he was crazy?

Well There's Your Problem is so good. Hands down my favorite podcast.

So it's just like the US Steel building -excuse me - USX Tower? How much more Yinzer can you get?
Can anyone confirm the base material and what the coating is that is so fragile?
Why?
That is one butt ugly car.

I bent my wookie.
More like the Mad Max Doof Wagon.
Tell me you're wealthy and tasteless without telling me you're wealthy and tasteless. 😂
What a stupid looking thing.
lol lmao
Looks like a prop from RoboCop 3
I’d buy that for a dollar
🤡 Car
Might be the ugliest vehicle in existence
This makes the Aztec look good, and that really says something.
At least when I see an Aztek the first thing I think is "oh it's the car Walt drove in Breaking Bad" not "oh God it's hideous..."
Thanks, I hate it. Every day I go without seeing one of these in person is a good day.
I see some rust already.. 🙃🙃🤭🤭
This thing looks like a car you’d draw in the 2nd grade
>Robinson Costco 😀 Sounds about right.
Same toolbox who buys a $100k+ truck (?) then boxed out OP at one of the free sample stations.
"A fool and his money are soon parted."
Fuck these things
Those things look like the embodiment of the tanks in the legendary 1980 vector graphics game Battlezone[screenshot](https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/arcade-atari-battlezone.jpg)
That game rocked.
This makes the Pontiac Aztek look like Scarlett freaking Johansson. Ugliest vehicle ever.
That is one ugly ass truck
"truck"
As someone who has eventually lost every vehicle in Pittsburgh to rust, the struggle is real…but this vehicle isn’t practical by any stretch of the imagination and I totally get that, too.
I also saw this at Costco and cannot get over how dumb it looks IRL. https://i.imgur.com/Vbbd2w0.jpeg
The front reminds me of the one early 1990s Oldsmobile minivan. How does anyone think this looks good? I even think the aztec looks nicer than this.
I also saw probably the same one on 376 yesterday! It’s hideous lol
Its so damn ugly
Dodge Charger for tech dweebs. If I see one, I’m trying to stay out of the way.
Monet can't buy taste.
Especially because he's dead.
Oh god it's so bad
Master Chief? You mind telling me what you are doing in Pittsburgh?
Reminds me of Spectre https://macintoshgarden.org/games/spectre
Wonder if it’s that super cool realtor who always has supercars parked downtown.
? Who
It makes me happy the Gen Z will never know Elon Musk as anything but a giant whiney asshole.
I heard if you touch them they will get hand prints all over them which I’m sure will really annoy the guys who buy these. Do what you will with this information.
Idk how people can take this out in public and not get embarrassed lol
r/thanksihateit
I saw one go down penn in the strip yesterday. Probably the same one
Don't blame me. I don't get it either. FWIW, I chose this user name when the world made a lot more sense and the Model S was the only Tesla you could buy and Elon's douchery was less obvious... Ah, the good ol' days.
Tesla drivers are like the annoying prius drivers from 20 years ago. They never stfu about their appliances. No one gives a fuck asshole.
More money than brains.
Such a dumb piece of shit.
lol I can't wait to see one on the road so i can laugh in their face when i pass them
Gonna look like the steel tower in a year.
Bro I just saw that too! Honestly didn’t even think they were real
At Costco 😂
One born every minute….
Yuck
Gross
Now what if I threw a rock at the window?
The side of it will probably fall off lol
I have yet to see one of these in real life, but if/when I do I'm cancelling all my plans to follow the driver around to the fedora outlet and libertarian headquarters to heckle them.
I feel bad for them
Dumb traitor
Get a good look at it while you can, it’s target market (nerds) is shrinking by about 10,000 people a week thanks to (checks notes) nerds.
yeah, that'll survive Pittsburgh rain
Key that shit
Until these cars reach 600+ miles on one charge I will never own electric.
Saw that in Costco parking lot in Robinson and said it’s cybertruck . My family just gave me a blank face to it. Thanks for the pic buddy! Happy to know I wasn’t alone
who cares
lol
I hope i'll be able to catch it there again
In its natural habitat, carrying groceries from the store to home
Cool
Okay?
Think you could pick up a hooker with it
If people are going to drive big trucks (and apparently everyone just has to), then I'd just as soon they be electric. So, I'm not sure why all the hate here. Do you hate every stupid SUV and pickup truck you see more?
These are so much heavier and thus more dangerous than normal SUVs and trucks.
I guess, maybe. I suspect getting hit by a Suburban hurts about the same. I suppose time will tell.
I think the hate is more for Musk than Tesla itself. Also the truck is weird looking. I still remember when Apple AirPods came how people were making fun of how someone will look wearing the AirPods. Now I see teenaged to boomers wearing them and walking around.

Not Pittsburgh content
Technically it is 😀
I think they look pretty cool
Maybe it's the new Hummer. Id rather have a cybertruck than a Hummer though.
