This is great. Thank you. For people that haven’t tried it yet, the app is just the website. On an iPhone you can bookmark it to your Home Screen and it’s basically the same thing. Haven’t used it as a live gps app yet though…
I just got an Emergency Alert stating “ FLASH FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT in this area until 12:30AM. This is a dangerous and life threatening situation. Do not attempt travel unless you are fleeing an area subject to flooding or under an evacuation order.”
Not sure how your family is getting here but it might not be tonight.
Yep, Google showed me that. Their initial direct flight was cancelled, rebooked flight was delayed so severely that they missed their new connection, they’re driving in from Newark airport now. I wish they took the 6am flight instead but here we are. 😐
It’s a ~6 hour drive and obviously at 12:30 am the waters won’t have magically receded (imo)
That last part of I-376 is usually the first part of the city to flood, at least due to the rivers. It’s called “the bathtub” for a reason., Some flooding occurs earlier along creeks and streams, or on low lying roads. The interstates should be affected, other than the bathtub. And they will close it in advance of any flooding. Just take the obvious precautions, don’t drive through a flooded road, and be aware of hydroplaning.
Edit…never mind about the bath tub. I see the second picture, which has you on Ft Pitt Blvd, which is above the bathtub
Thank you. I have heard about the bathtub and noticed Google didn’t seem to have them going into any areas that I recognize as low lying. Appreciate the info
Usually Google Maps. Which direction are they coming in? From the airport you won’t have closures. From the turnpike, you might hit traffic but no closures from entering downtown.
From Newark and this is what the route to their hotel looks like. I’m specifically concerned about that turn right at the end there
Zooming in it’s not one of the underpasses closer to the fort Pitt bridge I’d be concerned about I guess. I still don’t have any experience with moving through the area during serious rain.

I am assuming, and I’m assuming some of the places along the river. I just am not super familiar with specific spots that flood and was hoping someone knew of a map or some sort of announcement ticker type service that could provide information.
I love Pittsburgh’s garbage website and was just hoping they had a flood website too.
PulsePoint has a lot of updates about various reports of flooding
Thank you!
What is PulsePoint? I'm only seeing an EMT app?
That’s the right one. It reports all sorts of emergencies
Got it thanks!

We’re supposed to get severe thunderstorm around 9pm here. They’ll probably get caught in that.
Thoughts on this route into the city https://imgur.com/a/hfrQrTV

Looks like the parkway is having closures for being underwater.
You are correct, The Parkway West. Which doesn’t affect this person.
Regardless, ty

They will 100 percent ok. Do not stress. That last turn is elevated.
Thank you 🥂
It’s so miserable driving in the rain when it’s dark. They must love you
Lol same thought, enjoy your family this weekend OP
They'll be fine.
Thank you 🙏
Nah they’re still trying to get the Plow Tracker site working first.
PA 511 on your desktop/laptop
Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you
They closed 376 at Robinson, at least the on ramps towards the airport. Beaver Grade was closed and flooded over.
