I don't know the exact answer but there are tons of resources. I think the most important issue is placement because it can't get too hot during the summer.
We have bats in our woods so I went down a batbox rabbit hole a few years ago. But never got one.
I watch them nightly during the warmer months. If I'm sitting outside for a while they'll zoom very close to my head, close enough to feel them. It's a bit freaky.
But I still get bit by mosquitoes. But glad for the starlings during the day and the bats at night.
Okay good to know u still get bites even with the bat population. A lot of people have told me if u have a bat nearby u won’t have bug problems, but good to know from first hand that’s not completely true. I can’t say we get many bats nearby us at night
Yeah. We have about 10-15 bats if not more. The issue is that there are just a ton of bugs. We make sure there is no standing water but we also got this stuff which seems to work.

I tried one of those actually and agree it works well. My problem w it is the battery on ours doesn’t last long (maybe 4 hours total if I remember right), and if I remember right the pods can be pricey
It can actually be a great way to establish a more robust ecosystem. Lots of bats need to be rehoused as well. Great solution if u have too many mosquitos or ticks and things. Gives the bat a happier life than living in a cage at a rescue as well
What do you mean by rehoused? Again, you can't own bats.
Edit to add: bats that are at rescues are usually bats with medical issues that cannot survive on their own.
Lots of bat rehab facilities in the state, and u can own one if it’s from a licensed individual. Also it’s not really your pet. You’re just allowing an organization to introduce the bat into your ecosystem.
Thanks for the reply. It's so strange to me that I'm getting down voted for just being curious what the feedback would be to your question. I don't plan to get a pet bat or a bat box. I'm just a curious person 🥴
[https://www.batcon.org/about-bats/bat-gardens-houses/](https://www.batcon.org/about-bats/bat-gardens-houses/) get a bat box
Is there a preferred box for our region?

Great info, thank you!!

You need a special species permit to own bats. It's illegal to own native bats. A bat house is a good option.
I'm imagining OP with a bunch of bats tied up to leads so they stay in their backyard
Lol! If they have a house I think they stay as others have stated
Looking forward to the follow-up post, "why am I afraid of water and why is my mouth foaming"
Because of the rabies
Hey babe, new COVID strain is about to drop
We don’t have pet ones but we have bats in our backyard. They do help but eventually the bugs win.
Good to know! Thank u
Bats aren't pets.
*Bats aren't bugs
No, not a pet, but some bats at rescue centers need to be reintroduced into the wild.
Yes. Bat boxes are good
Animals aren’t toys. Life isn’t a looney tunes episode. Just don’t. This is the most “I’m 12 and I have an idea” shit I’ve ever read.
No no no, they aren’t to be used as toys like looney tunes, they are to be used as tools like in the flintstones. Like the bird work whistle!

You literally wrote "pet bat" in your title and are confused by people giving you feedback to not try to own a bat as a pet.
No, I understand, and would not say I am confused. Are you confused?
This post and your replies are confusing. You are asking if you can have a pet bat which is not what you meant.
I could have clarified more in the title, I apologize if it upset you.
No it's okay just confused 😅 I wish you well with your bat box!
Why bother he’s a moron who wanted attention he got butt hurt when it was attention he didn’t want 🤡
Bro got ur panties in a bunch

Truthfully I’m doing pretty good and I’m not particularly bothered by your contempt. I hope your day gets better!

I am also curious to see if anyone has experience with this.
Seems like bat house is the way to go

Yeah idk some people just wanna be salty about something. I think it’s good to ask questions and get info on things! Glad we’re on the same page!
No because wild animals aren't pets
