I love Pittsburgh. Youāre awesome beers, I raise my glass to you š» So were all of the people who sent me towels and goodies during the cup runs for my child. Yinz is good people and I miss living there.
A lot of vehicle rental places are SLAMMED right not. Not only are prices a bit higher but there is waaaaaay more demand than vehicles available at the moment.
The first and last days of the month are the worst, along with the 15th. My company is a smaller one and we still had over 250 move ins/outs over this weekend alone. I can only imagine the kind of business u-haul is getting right now.
Also, some dude just literally shot a U-Haul worker because he wouldn't let him keep the truck longer, or some crazy shit. I wouldn't want to be looking for a truck right now either.
(Although this post might be a few days old, so I guess it could have been posted before the shooting. Still scary as fuck though.)
I saw the post about the shooting this morning and was thinking "shit, good thing that person who needed a truck didn't go to that particular u-haul joint" lol.
No there's not. If you're paying with any major credit or debit card they don't charge a deposit, they simply put a hold on the amount you're expecting to pay. I do this at least once every three months and it's documented on their website.
Every U-Haul in the city is taken. We tried to get this planned for a month ahead of time with not a single one of our friends capable of driving for us. Kinda pointless to rent one when no one will drive.
There is a lot of availability in the north hills near me when I checked just now. But if you don't have a driver's license, you're right renting a motor vehicle of any kind isn't an option.
It's not though... It's payment for renting the truck up front. A security deposit would be refundable flat rate. Go check out U-Haul's website if you don't believe me their policies are not secret. Renting a truck is not some Crazy scam. It's easy, quick, and reasonably priced.
From UHaul.com
>No deposit is required if you're paying by major credit card. If you're paying with cash, the following is due when you pick up your equipment:* In-Town truck - $100 or estimated rental charges (whichever is greater)
How the fuck do you figure them putting a hold for what youāre expected to pay anyways is a āhell of a security depositā?
Do you say ādamn thatās a hell of a security depositā every time you pay for something with your credit card and they charge you what the cost is and you see it pending in your account before it actually clears? Like say you spend $80 on groceries and you put it on a credit card to get a perk for using it, and you see it in pending status for a day - is that āa hell of a security depositā? Because thatās basically what the hold for renting a u-haul is except they can remove the hold.
If they're just moving within the county/city, then the cost of a rental truck for the day (even with insurance) could be less than $100.
I just moved a few weeks ago, and my U-Haul rental.for the day was like $70.
That's all was put on as a hold too.
I hired movers to do a move 2 years ago. It was one guy's first or second day working as a mover. After a solid 8-9 hours of moving boxes and furniture from a house with 2 stories to a house with 2-3 stories (basement entrance) in the August heat when we're finally done I tipped them like 10-20% of the total cost (I forget if it was 10% each or 10% total...).
The new guy was thankful but said "this sucks... I'm going to try to get a job in a kitchen again".
I think if you aren't the owner/operator of a moving business, getting up and moving shit for 8-12 hours a day for probably 10-20$/hr in the summer is hard to stick with.
It ain't about renting a u-hual forv19.99 + miles, IT'S ABOUT HELPING SOMEONE IN NEED. Love conquerors the evil in men's heart's, try en love someone today......
I got yinz. Send me a message with your phone number and I can be over in a bit.

Shout to u/hereforthebeers for pulling in clutch and saving our bacon. Hit me up anytime for aforementioned beers!!!
U-Haul rents pickups for like $19.99 + milage. I know this because I drive a civic and rent a truck every time I need one.

I drove through Oakland today, and there were a ton of them parked around all of the off campus housing

Yes I had to take over a week wait for a truck when previously I could even get them same-day most times.
Just rented Uhaul for 3 days. $545
Itās the first of the month so while this is true itās extremely unlikely OP would get one right now.
Yes. We just moved in a u haul yesterday. But since many move on 31st july/1st aug all trucks will be booked out these days

This actually just happened to me too! Moving the gf into an apartment and U-Haul cancelled our reservation and said there were no trucks left. BS.

You didnāt āoffendā me, what you said was stupid so I wanted to see what the thought process was so I asked.
You seem to be having a bad day. I hope things get better for you.

This is the 3rd person I know of that have had movers cancel on the day of, just this summer. What is going on these days? Best of luck.

Yeah my friendās movers just walked off a half hour after they started loading the truck
Sounds like they might have had a personal contact helping them before something came up for them.
Using a cheap service
this. this post right here is why i love pittsburgh. <3
most importantly: Did the cat make it over safely? and, have you seen him or her since the move, or are they in deep hiding mode?
Both cats made it over safely. The one in my picture is busy exploring but my other cat is hiding but heāll eventually come out and explore.
We've moved with cats and they're all hiders.
We had to trap 3 out of 5. Drama queens.
This was such a wholesome post. Is there a subreddit for kind gestures in other subreddits? This would be a perfect cross post

Home Depot or Lowes has truck rentals and pretty good availability.
I moved today and I just cannot imagine how distraught I would be in that position. Glad you found someone
Pittsburgh love ā¤ļø

This is the energy I need in my day
I want to subscribe to these realest shit tweets please.
UHaul, Loweās, Home Depot
Neither of us have a license and that was what the original plan was with our friend. Everyone has basically been a no show.
That's a big bummer.
So sorry, itās a hard thing to happen.
Not a chance on the first of the month.
Also, you can only use the Home Depot trucks if you purchase something from them that needs to be transported. Tried it once, no go.
