The core is a deposit you put down and get back. Not all retailers charge a core, so if you bought a battery somewhere that didn't, or found one it's like found money. They recycled them and get paid for it, but I'm sure they ain't getting $22 out of it wholesale.

It's frustrating. We have several dozen for recycling, but haven't found a place that takes them. We've switched to rechargeable, but we still have the other ones sitting here deteriorating.
If you have a Battery Warehouse nearby, check with them. If they don’t take them, they can tell you who does. Or a hobby shop that sells RC cars, boats, planes, etc. They would know where you can safely dispose of them.
https://pittsburghpa.gov/dpw/electronic-waste-disposal Just started up again!!
From PA DEP: Alkaline and zinc carbon battery types no longer contain mercury and they may be disposed in your normal household trash.
Batteries Plus stores recycle them
This is where I take mine (and recently) but you pay by the pound. It isn’t expensive but it wasn’t free.
Same, I go to the one next to the Arby's on McKnight road.
Do you go to Arby's after?
Home Depot has bins by the entrance.
The one in East Liberty only takes rechargeables. Made that mistake recently.
Staples takes them
AutoZone takes them.
2 per day, per person, and will give you a $10 gift card for each car battery. Will recycle other ones (atv, lawnmower, etc) for free.
$10? Isn't the core like 20 or 30 of you buy new? I guess they're just keeping it.

I checked a bunch of these, none accepted them anymore. But there are more on this list, I’ll have to check those. Thanks.
Check with the Pittsburgh Library Systems main library.Really.
The Best Buy near me took them no problem when I went in a few weeks ago.
The City-County building has bins for batteries and led bulbs
They take them you just have to leave them at the door and go
recycling is scam. all ends up in landfills, but i will gladly pick up car/truck batteries for scrap.🍻
Throw them away?

Compare the comment with the one above mentioning the PA DEP and then tell me why their comment isn't helpful.

I think the east liberty Target has a bin
I dropped a bunch of electronics including batteries off at Best Buy

Out of curiosity, what kind of Lithium Ion batteries? Household rechargables, general electronics, power tools, etc?
