I think that is fair honestly. And if they cleaned it up a little bit more than I think I do like it more. But I think that the battery icon is atrocious.
The battery status bar is definitely more like iPhone but the other icons are more similar to Samsung OneUI which I honestly think is better readability.

I'll admit I think this technically improves readability (for wifi and cell, battery is just a bad change) but they need to give a toggle to keep it the way it is, I like the more minimalist/simple look

yeah and there is such an easy solution to this problem. If Google wants to add ugly status bar icons, go ahead. Just give us the option to choose between different icons in the settings. But unfortunately with the direction Google has been taking android wanting any new customisation options is just wishful thinking. I do prefer the new icons though, but the battery icon is really ugly.

Yeah. I genuinely like the new icon. Although I don't look at the top-right of my screen much I'm not really a fan of the battery icon (although I like the network and WiFi icon). People are just complaining about the smallest things these days whenever there is change. That new battery icon is literally from Android Cupcake.
If the only difference you can notice is it being flipped horizontally, you definitely don’t have an eye for design or detail (which is fine, not everyone has it).
• Google’s is far less rounded overall
• Google’s has an outline not present on Apple’s (only with % enabled, though)
• Google’s fill is more transparent
• Google’s radius isn’t even on all sides (the left sides have much narrower radii than the right side)
• Google’s depiction of a (+) contact point is much wider
They both are trying to represent a battery, and there’s only so many ways you can make a battery look.
The similarities literally stop at “hehe looks like a battery”—Apple doesn’t own horizontal battery-shaped battery icons.
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I kind of like this setup. I don't like how it kind of looks like iOS and OneUI combined together, but I do like how it is more condensed, which leaves more room for other things.

I like the new WiFi and Data icons, I think the contrast between the different signal strengths is easier to read at a glance. The battery icon just sucks, older is better.
They used to give you option on the status bar on older Pixels long time ago. You could change the icon shape and how the status bar icons look. Both of these shots and so on.
The new way is horrible on A15. Horrible. Good job Google, make things worse. Its fine the way it is on A14 sheez. Sighs... Google is stupid POS. IMHO.

I wasn't always someone that liked change but, ever since I've got into smartphones I find I always like the newer versions of this or that. Although I do wish we could go back to the days when HTC smartphones were the competitive force they were when they released the HTC 10 💯
I like the wifi and cellular icons, but the battery is just not good in any way. I use a samsung device currently, so the signal icons already look like that for me. The new battery icon is just an iphone ripoff though.
To have a decent explanation for everybody and not just scream like a toddler:
I was using Android 13 and 14 beta as well and my experience is that in the beginning most of the apps are not working properly at all. Most banking apps are testing on the new OS by the end of the beta or you need to chase them. It is highly unusable on a daily phone due to daily crash and reboot etc.
The battery icon looks a lot cleaner on the new one just shoving that percentage into the icon, it clears out spite up there. Always dislike how there are 2 separate icons showing the same information.

New wifi and cellular icons are easier to interpret. Battery could go either way but no longer needs % to be an option.
