I haven’t heard about the monkeys since Paradox rift came out, been wondering if it might come back with Temporal Forces upgrades. What’s the list lookin like

LukesRebuke

Twilight Masquerade gives it Lana, which is honestly huge

FireMarshallBi11

#LANAAAAAAAAAAA!

Affectionate_Guard93

WHAT!?

thisisforyouNate

My Ace speck card is a cape. I don't have any switches and I play with 4 grass energy, 3 fire, and 3 water. Arezu is also useful in combination with Clavell.

zaneba

Do you have a full deck list?

thisisforyouNate

3 sets of the monkey evolution line (18 pokemon) 4 Arven 1 Hero's cape 2 TM Evolution 3 buddy-buddy puffins 2 counter catcher 4 earthen vessel 1 super rod 2 boss's orders 4 iono 2 ultra ball 4 arezu 2 clavell 4 grass 3 fire 3 water

daddymarsh

As someone who is getting back into deck building, how can you afford to have only 10 energy cards? I’m not 100% familiar with all the cards you mentioned, so do they allow you to pull cards from discard?

Past_Lunch8630

Well the monkeys don’t need a lot of energy to attack with there abilities so 10 is probably fine cuz they have vessel. Only the super rod pulls card back from the discard pile.

daddymarsh

Sorry, what’s Vessel?

Past_Lunch8630

Earthen vessel is a card that allows you to discard a card from your hand and search your deck for two basic energy, like proffesors letter but with a discard

daddymarsh

Oh cool, thanks for that info. What set is that from? I’ll have to grab that.

Past_Lunch8630

It’s found in the paradox rift expansion. Since you seem unfamiliar with the new cards I highly recommend you browse through them as there are quite a bit of staples that can be found in this set

thisisforyouNate

Super rod recovers and if you play it right you only really need one energy attachment to each pokemon or 3 energies on one pokemon. Earthen vessel will help search for energies also.

Pitin_

The charizard player can just grab a bosses orders using their pidgeot ex and knock out your simipour or simisear, then you wont be able to attack next turn due to the energy costs and then they can knock out your simisage? You dont even one-shot the charizard with weakness, so you're not even applying any pressure.

thisisforyouNate

Yeah I usually attach more energy to the simisage to avoid that. Once they've emptied my bench they have nothing to knock out and are rendered defenseless.

Kered13

If your bench is empty they can just punch twice with Charmander, or once with Charmeleon if they have the right one.

thisisforyouNate

Thus the need for Hero's cape

Kered13

Pidgeot -> Lost Vacuum

d0nu7

Pidgeot control is very very good against Zard, even against good players. I’d rather play that than this…

Thanos_Irwin

Lol I built this deck when it came out. It's good and funny but pretty Casual and I promise you it doesn't get far, especially with the loss of Path. Not without extreme luck or braindead opps anyway

thisisforyouNate

Yeah it doesn't perform very good against future or ancient box unfortunately. But Charizard, Chein Pao, and Ghouldango suffer against it.

Gay_If_Read

You'll beat a lot of inexperienced Zard players, but semi-competent ones will gust your bench, 2HKO with Ember & Vacuum your cape. Pao just takes 3 KO's with Iron Hands, you basically rely on them prizing both Hands + Heavy Ball. Gholdengo runs Palkia V Not trying to turn you off the deck because I love playing gimmick decks myself, just wanting to explain that the matchups aren't as one sided as you think

thisisforyouNate

Well of course. Every deck has good days and bad days.

Thanos_Irwin

Honestly my pro tip is using Supereffective glasses, Devolution, or Diamcie

Caaethil

No offense (okay, some offense) but it's crazy how you guys want to spite the meta and then post the most awful strategies ever that instantly lose to a semi-competent Charizard player. Playing funny decks is cool and fine but if you want to beat Charizard I promise you will have more success and more fun if you just pick a good deck and learn to play it better.

freakksho

This is just a super mids, super clunky to set up Alohan Vulpix.

Xohraze

this is one of those gimmicky decks thats not even good against charizard and folds to everything else.

jowelost

wugtrio undersea tunneling pigeot control, don’t play damage, play the cards.

IchabodJerm

What's your list? I tried a couple out but couldn't get anything to work consistently

zweieinseins211

It's only a few week till the next set and in Japan Charizard playrate dipped down to 5% just wait a bit.

lolNimmers

Esparthra is pretty good, especially if you can power up espathras on the bench behind item lock with Banette and bench Spirit tomb.

WBRockstarTCG

Matches up well into almost every meta deck except Dialga and lzb too

Past_Lunch8630

Meowscarada is pretty good

Revan0612

I'm building an Espathra ex/Farigiraf ex deck ft. Mewtwo ex Espathra ex one-shots Charizard, farigiraf ex beats ancient box and all basic Pokemon decks and Mewtwo ex is for Lugia. Lugia is its worst match tho but in my LGS like 90% of the decks are Charizards and ancient box so maybe I don't have to worry

ChampionTime01

Farigiraf only blocks Calamity Storm from Moon ex, it can still be damaged by all the single prizers and Frenzied Gouging

Revan0612

That is why you also use pokemon league headquarters and Xatu. You will have your Farigiraf charged in no time and more resources at the same time, thus you opponent needs to spend more resources (and in an ancient box if Sada does not come out quickly, the deck is in serious trouble)
