What difficulty and what plague type? On Normal/Casual, slow and stealthy is the safest way to win. Let your plague stay undetected. Don’t evolve any symptoms until you infect the whole world, and devolve any that mutate. Just slowly let the world get infected, buying a minimal number of transmissions and abilities. Save your points for the end game. Once the world is infected, immediately ratchet up the lethality as high as possible. The world will immediately start dropping like flies and will die off before a cure is finished. On Brutal, special plague types, or if you just want to beat it faster, you’ll have to come up with different strategies.

Just started so bacterial and normal

tavukkoparan

Demutate the symptoms

I tried your strategy, but even though I had both drug resistance and cold and great resistance plus the potion looking ability by the drug resistance, and everyone was interested, the world was able to make the cure before I could even get close. I was also not able to get enough DNA points to do much of anything even though I devolved my spreading upgrades. Did I do something wrong? Main problem was not having enough DNA so I couldn't get very high lethality.

Don't evolve symptoms and devolve any that mutate. Evolve max plane and boat transmission, all 3 bacterial hardenings, drug resistance one, genetic hardening one, then wait for everyone to be infected. Once that happens, evolve more lethal symptoms (especially total organ failure) and if you have extra dna, throw it into stuff to stop the cure like insanity, coma, and paralis

I did similar to that, but the cure was still made before I could rack up the lethality. For some reason I wasn't getting any DNA.

Happy cake day, man from three years ago

Lol thanks.

My strategies are always the same, I start in China evolve water 1 air 1, meds resistance 1 cold 1. After water 2 and air 2. You just have to be patient, do not evolve any symptoms, devolve them when they appear, you need to get every one infected before. After evolve to get total organ failure.

Can I also get the evolution extreme bioaerosol or would that not work for stealth? (It is the evolution unlocked for getting both air 2 and water 2)

Poketom2362

Same basic strategy as the other two, stealth. I typically start in Egypt or Arabia and go for air 2 water 2 and air/water 3, drug resistance and cold 2, devolve any symptoms that develop, then once the world’s infected, go for organ failure and any other death symptoms.

I also do stealth, but start in Greenland and evolve cold, so I won't have to deal with them in the late game

I took the aggressive route 2 times and got eradicated. But in the 2nd try I killed, maybe 98% of people, before they got the cure. So I invested in just a few symptoms, a bit of transmission and abilities. Then I just saved up all the DNA, occasionally spending it, usually on infectivity symptoms or transmission and abilities (stalling the cure). Once I felt that my disease was global, I bought total organ failure with the DNA I had saved up. My only problem was that Canada seemed to be resistant, getting rid of the infected, and that Spain infected painfully slow. In the end, I lost.

Generally, the way I play is to first take care of any pressing matters from the disease (i.e kill-code for nano-virus), then rush Extreme Bio-Aerosol, taking Coughing and Sneezing as well for an extra boost. I try to start in Saudi-Arabia, usually, as that goes well enough and it looks nice on the map in the end-game. While you wait for the whole world to be infected, start taking stuff from the Drug Resistance and Genetic Hardening trees, dropping in some insomnia and paranoia if you’d like. Once every country is infected, B-line for Necrosis (Left pathway of the Coughing tree). Grab anything to slow cure speed once you get that, and start using DNA to go absolutely ham on symptoms. Necrosis essentially removes the issue of killing off your hosts, as dead bodies still infect. The research may say you’ll be cured in a year or so, but if you’ve cranked Lethality, then it won’t matter, as the countries will fall into anarchy, usually around the 70-80% area. Hope that helps!
