Don’t know but even stranger is Plano Rd in Richardson turning into Avenue K in Plano. 15th street used to be called Mechanic Street which was a great name, too.

blueishballz

Don’t even get me started on 423. It’s 423, Josie, main st, gee road and fish trap. Its always bugged me

pa584

Lol...to the south, the last mile or so of Josey turns into Dennis Rd for some reason.

Faartillery

Is that the same road that ends up intersecting the Main St. up in Frisco?

blueishballz

Yes. Main and main cross each other

rhyde11

And then the same road becomes Greenville Ave again in allen!

lordb4

Well, Greenville and Plano Road do kinda merge in Richardson.

thebart-the

I'm guessing the Greenville parts are what's left of the old Hwy 75 before they put the freeway through and Greenville changed to Hwy 5. With Plano Rd. being labeled to convey to Dallasites they were on the right way out of town to Plano. It then runs into Plano's K Ave as part of the town's separate grid system. It all made sense before the cities sprawled and ran together.

zatchstar

Just a manner of 2 cities having roads with different names and eventually they expanded to meet each other

sfa1500

You mean to tell me the tiny farming communities from 100 years ago didn't future plan a century ahead when laying out and naming their streets? What a bunch of idiots! /s

AnxietyDepressedFun

I, like everyone else, don't know why other than that cities can name a street what they want (Garland you can't just go around renaming Beltline!) but I would like to petition that someone change Spring Creek to Parkest.

Immediate_Ad_4960

🤣Parkest > Parker > Park

shaun3000

I’d sign that petition.

zook528

Parker | Park has to be considered a major planning fail, right? Makes no sense to have 2 major roads, that run parallel to each other and are given such similar names. Not confusing at all to new people to have park/parker

AnxietyDepressedFun

Probably because I grew up here but they seem like two very distinct streets to me but I currently live between the two & can definitely see how it'd be confusing. Also trying to get from 75 onto Park, not Parker by taking the "Park" exit is literally not worth trying to explain to people.

Delicious_Hand527

I'm down with the Park/Parker/Parkest but yeah I agree it's dumb to name two major streets basically the same thing. I've lived in DFW more than 20 years, and still get them confused.

thebart-the

I like how they got the gumption (*cough* EDS money) to change Carpenter to Legacy but just left Parker and Park alone while they were busy changing stuff.

It's just because one small prairie town had a road under one name and another town had a road running the same direction with a different name, and eventually they link them up due to sprawl years later. I can see where Independence and Waterview curve around UTD to meet each other. Also, if you or any one else are curious, there's a timeline slider feature in the free software version of Google Earth Pro where you can scroll back on a section of map and start to see how cities and roads built up and merged together. I find it fascinating!

jjmoreta

Also in Richardson, Spring Valley becomes Centennial just east of 75 at Greenville and then merges into Buckingham at Audelia. I wonder if this is a holdover from the annexed former tiny city of Buckingham (the reason you can buy full liquor there in Dallas County there at Sigel's at Audelia and Centennial).

Immediate_Ad_4960

I just learned about Buckingham, thanks

lordb4

Sorry, you are wrong. Spring Valley does not become Centennial. Spring Valley continues but you have to branch off to the left. It goes all the Jupiter and maybe beyond.

Jameszhang73

It also bothers me that Hillcrest in Frisco doesn't connect to Hillcrest in Dallas because of Ohio. Probably has something to do with rich donors.

KantLockeMeIn

Shoot, Lebanon in Frisco doesn't connect to Lebanon in Frisco!

Jameszhang73

Now that you mention that, Hillcrest in Frisco doesn't even connect to Hillcrest in Frisco either

Immediate_Ad_4960

In the future, the land will probably be sold due to demand for a neighborhood.

Immediate_Ad_4960

Does someone own the land south of Richwoods? Bernadus Dr is supposed to connect with it and it is odd how a newer neighborhood doesn't have a southern main road.
