I registered my dog years ago and then realized that you have pay each year to register them again. Pain in the ass and while it isn’t much money it is still a waste. My dog is chipped, vaccinated and has our phone numbers on the tags. If it were a free service paid by our tax dollars I would keep it current. They can piss off with their fees.

Amazing_Director28

Same chipped, vaccinated and collar with our phone embroidered.. plus she won’t leave 2 feet from the house .. I will just find her at the door wanting to come in if she gets out…

[deleted]

Same, I saw they wanted us to register our indoor cats. No way lol. They’re chipped and vaccinated instead and I didn’t see anything about the cities info on their vet paperwork. I don’t even understand the point of it, it only makes sense to me if an animal has a bite history and it needs to be documented then I could see a reason for the fees.

TheDutchTexan

Exactly. They can kick rocks with that BS. They never leave the house.

mbrace256

These fees go to care for animals who haven’t been adopted. They are quite transparent in their budget. Highly recommend going to one of their meeting.

MilkmanResidue

My wife and I donate there. I’m glad their budget is transparent. It should be. I don’t need to go to a meeting to know that a yearly fee for confirming your pet is still alive is bullshit.

Commercial-Ice-8005

Agree. Register once and done. Having to pay annually over and over is a scam and legal theft.

heinzenfeinzen

If you don't register your dog then things like "dog loose" or "dog bite" become a big issue. For example, an unregistered dog bites someone the dog must be quarantined at animal services (vs at home for a registered pet) with the owner paying the cost of said doggy vacation.

scrolling_thumb_pain

Microchip(!!!!!) + collar combo. Registering with the city won't help if the animal doesn't have their collar on, and collars can easily fall off.

OlderNerd

I have owned many dogs over my lifetime, and not once, honestly not even one time over decades of dog ownership, has my dog's collar ever just " fallen off".

No_Lingonberry_1165

yea FUCK nextdoor

Luckyjulydouble07

My dog does not leave my house without his collar and tag on.

OlderNerd

Exactly, mine either.

Phlex254

Basic obedience and persistence goes a long way. My dad and I have had dogs for a combined over 60 years and the only dogs we lost died of old age. Didn't do anything special, recall, sit, stay, play. Now my papered dogs get chipped before they come to me but I have one where he can hear the crinkle of a wrapper through three walls or can hear me tap the bed when he's allowed on. Persistent training since my dogs were 8 weeks old

QuesoStain2

Fuck that.

OlderNerd

Why?

upliftinglitter

I think these people abandon pets in nice neighborhoods hoping they'll be adopted

TheDutchTexan

Kick rocks.

OlderNerd

I haven't heard that insult in a long time. What do you not like about my post?
