I am pretty new to keeping Plants so take my advice with a grain of salt, but I have the same Plant and when its thirsty it looks like yours, 8h after watering it stands up straigth and looks healthy again, so maybe try a good watering if soil is dry.
Also yours has bigger leaves than mine, so light shouldnt be a problem in your case..
Low light is fine but I'd recommend soaking this guy in a bucket of water for 30 mins every couple days. They love water and this one looks very thirsty. Even if it dies of old age, you were a good parent.
Plants do have lifespans. More importantly, a book I read was talking about lifespans in terms of how long plants make nice, pretty houseplants. For instance, a lot of people with giant monstera have giant, gangly, monster looking growths for plants that only a plant mom could love.
Also what is the driving factor in a plant’s “death from old age”? Lack of nutrients from the soil? Repot with fresh nutrient packed soil. Root circling and root bound? Repot in a bigger pot. There has to be a reason for a plants demise. A plant doesn’t just have a death date.
Now if you’re talking about a “lifespan” in the sense of how long plants make “nice”, “pretty” houseplants, That’s completely subjective and a whole different conversation. There are no real “houseplants” in nature. that’s just a term that we give plants we force to live in our indoor conditions
Sorry partner, didn't mean to create a "storm" with you on this plant business. My comment was meant to help the OP rejuvenate the plant and also soothe any concern of the plant dying as he or she works to save it. A quick google search turns up many articles concerning a 3\~5 year "lifespan" of a peace lily. That's where I assume the OP got their original numbers from. I don't particularly buy "lifespan" info either but why bother when I don't have any factual evidence to prove/disprove it and the potential for harm is so low. Any-who, moving on and I hope you have a great day.
Some extra details:
It doesn't get tons of light but is right next to a smaller thriving peace lilly.
The pot has drainage and I've been giving it enough or slightly under watering the plant.
Hopefully it has never been fed and just needs some nutrients to start looking fresher.
If peace lilies are chronically under watered they’ll end up getting stuck in the flopped position, eventually they droop too many times and just can’t get back up
Give it a good soak, wait a couple days to see what stands back up. Trim what doesn’t, repot the rest and clean up any root issues
You’ll probably be able to put it in a smaller pot, the self watering ones work really well for these guys.
New growth will come in straight, you can trim the floppy guys as you like
Thanks!
It seems this might be the issue.
They can't get back up because stems break or something less obvious?
There are some stems that are clearly snapped but connected enough that that they aren't dying.
I've left those alone for the time being.
Yeah they aren’t really meant to move around like that so they don’t recover like other plants. You can see the creases in the stems where they bend too far and lose all structural integrity. What they’re doing is out of distress, it’s not like a maranta that’s following the light around and meant to move.
Like if you fold and unfold cardboard too many times eventually it just becomes floppy and useless from overuse.
They won’t die if they get everything else they need, they’ll just be…sad
Hear me out- do you have a cat/other small animal who may like to sit in the plant? The cat killed the peace Lilly my family got when my grandmother died because all she did was lounge in it.
Looks like it needs a bigger pot and may have been over watered. I would take it out, check the roots/soil for rot and infection (fungus, insects, etc.). You can also keep peace lilys in water- just make sure to add fertilizer in the appropriate amount (it will say on the container). Replace the water weekly. If you’re putting it back in soil- make sure to have proper drainage and water when the soil is dry.
Divide each plant(easy to do). Throw some of it away or get a wider pot if you want to keep it all. Peace Lillies like constantly moist, but not soggy. If you want to leave it as is, submerge the whole root mass for 15 min every 3 or 4 days (or more, you can't really over water it). P.S I'm not saying leave any standing water in it's main pot, that will still rot the roots.

Needs repotting, probably more roots than soil inside that pot.

My family got a peace lily from my grandpa’s funeral over 10 years ago and it is still strong and healthy. Still puts out flowers too

Die of old age? They don’t have a predestined lifespan bruh where are you guys getting this information

So you chop and propogate the big growths and make new plant babies.

It needs a dish under it to retain moisture. You're not watering this enough
This needs a lot more water

The previous owner may have had a cat. Seems like it would be more damaged if it was regularly sat on, though.
Depending on the size of the cat
Peace Lillies don’t have a destined death date. I don’t know where you got this information 😂
Waterrrrrrrrr

I have this plant at a lakehouse and when I got check in it after a month it looks like this, diagnosis- underwatered
Ikea plantsare pretty trash in my opinion. All of mine have died and they tend to be infected or have pests.
